I just ordered a RRA Varmint 24" barrel in .223. I would like to use my Nightforce 8x32BR. I see all kinds of mounts that are available from not only RRA, Nightforce, Burris, and many others that run from $40 to $285. What are the preferences for this kind of a mount using a 56mm scope? Advantages? Drawbacks? Thanks……….

Re: Scope mount for RRA

Use a price appropriate mounting system for the quality of the gun and optics as your gun is only as good as the weakest link.

AR15.com might be a better forum for this particular question.

(I apologize for my fellow snipershide comrad above...he could have just waited for someone to come along WHO DID have some time with these systems)

Are you planning on removing the optic to come in/out of the field or for maintenance? Or, are you planning on it being a permenant fixture?

I would highly recommend the Larue Tactical series of scope mounts if you intend to remove the optic from time to time and return it to some resemblence of zero. If a QD mount is not needed Leupold makes a very nice mount that runs right at $100. I recently purchased one from midwayusa for an HK SL8-6 and I'm very happy with it.

I've run a Laure on everything to include an Armalite AR-50 .50BMG with zero issues. It took every bell ringing round the 50 fired and I've had others on .308s as well. The optic was a SWFA SS...a pig of a scope. That BR tips the scales as well so you may want to opt for a permenant optic mount vs a QD. Blue loctite is your friend.

Re: Scope mount for RRA

I've been happy with my LaRue's, ADM's, and Bobro. LaRue and Bobro are my favorites. They hold zero great. I have a 6-20x in the Bobro on my targer rifle. I like the Bobro because I can switch it between rifles without having to re-adjust it. Clamps on securely.

In all due respect, I have that rifle. It shoots great, but that is a lot of magnification for it. Personally, I don't think you have to go over 20x. That may even be a little too much. Just my opinion. I've put a few rounds through mine. You'll enjoy yours.
