I recently ordered a KAC SR25 EC 16" gun that i would like to use as a semi auto precision setup.I probably wont receive the gun for at least a month so i would like to have a scope ready when it comes.First off I am a noob in the precision world and I want to make sure i get the right scope for my needs. I plan on shooting out 500yds mostly but would like the ability to stretch it out further as i get more experience. The two scopes i have been looking at are the Mark 4 LRT Leupold 3.5-10x40 and the Nightforce 2.5-10x32. I must admit I really dont know much about the different reticle styles and which one will best suit my needs. I understand the SR25 is not going to give me bolt gun accuracy but i want to maximize the potential of the platform but staying in $1600 price range for glass. Any suggestions or input is greatly appriciated!

Re: Scope options for SR25EC

What are your expectations? Do you want to bang steel at 800 yards? Do you want to shoot nice tight groups? If you are banging steel at 800 yards then those two options are satisfactory. Personally, I weighed the extra cost vs benefit and decided on the 3.5-15x56 F1. It gives me the ability to shoot nice groups and the FFP is nice as well. I purchase mine used for 1800 bucks. A NF 2.5x10 will run you from 1200-1400 used. Why not spend a few hundred more and get the f1?

Are you sure your F1 is a 3.5-15x56?

A 16 inch .308 KAC EC, get a Leupold Mk 6 1-6 or save the money and get a MK 8 1-8. either of those will take you to 500. no need to over scope a .308 carbine.

Re: Scope options for SR25EC

I intend on shooting mainly out to 500yd for groups and any extended distances would be banging steel. I am looking to use this setup as a "practical accuracy" semi-auto sniper mainly shot off the bipod and NOT for run and gun matches. My max spending limit is $1600 and not a penny more and I definitely want a First Focal Plane optic. I am really leaning towards the Mark 4 3.5-10x40 First Focal Plane with Mildot and M1 turrets. I hear good and bad about the Leupold scopes and that is what has me on the fence. Are there any other brands I should be looking at in this price range?

He's right, you don't need a big scope.

USO 1.5-6X with EREK. No problem out to 500yds. You might get lucky and find one used for $1600 +/-.

Good luck.

This is the JNG reticle. easy to use in sunlight.

FFP + shooting paper = lots of the target covered by the reticle in my experience. Just something to keep in mind that most benchrest guys that are shooting groups shoot SFP.

Re: Scope options for SR25EC

I have the leupold mark 4s on several rifles and like them a lot. I don't have any experience with NF but for me an adjustable parallax is a must for optics in the 10X power range. Other reasons I like the Leupy is the TMR is super easy to use and the BDC turrets make life easier. If you are getting anything above 10X, I also reccomend going FFP as I find myself using 10X most of the time. If you don't plan on going out to 1000 yards let alone past then you really don't need anymore magnification though.

Re: Scope options for SR25EC

I have an IOR 2.5-10 Tactical on my 6.5 Grendel. It's a good option in this range. There is one here on the Hide going for $850. Great glass and reticule. It has some things I wish they would improve like the tunneling at the bottom end but it has preformed great for me. Yesterday I shot it out to 1000 yards on a 10 X 12 plate. The NF would have been my choice if it was FFP, but at the price the IOR is hard to beat.
