Rifle Scopes Scope recommendation

I currently have a Vortex Strike Fire 3-18x44 that I'm not particularly impressed with. Considering a change and looking for possible recommendation(s). The platform is a Bergara b-14 hmr 6.5 creedmoor with a 22" barrel. Primary use of scope is benchrest target shooting during the day time out to currently available 200 yards. Hoping to expand distance to 500-600 yards. Prefer a 30mm tube, moa, and low magnification to be 3 or 4. Price range is between $500 and $600. I don't think that it is possible to get a scope with a zero stop in this price range however, it's something I would really like to have. Thanks in advance.

i just saw this great sale on last year's model Sig scopes.....if i had the cash i'd jump on some of these deals but unfortunately that's just not possible for me right now. Hope this helps.

I would look in the PX for a 4-16x50 Vortex Viper PST. If anyone has one available it should fall in your price range.

In that price range, I'd look for a new Nikon FX1000 or a used Vortex PST Gen 2 3-15.

Personally, I'd consider Athlon or some other options before a Gen 1 PST.

The Nikon FX1000 seems to have some great features that I was looking for. I really like the constant eye relief of 4", FFP, and zero stop. Thanks.

I would have suggested the Athlon Midas-TAC until I looked through the sale list on Grainger’s sight. I would jump all over those sales.

If you can stretch you budget a coupe hundo maybe look at Burris XTR2 maybe?? It’s a 34mm tube but has zero stop. They just announced the XTR3 at SHOT so I bet prices will come down. I’ve got one in the safe I’ve considered letting go.

Not to divert this thread, but...I'm curious as to your reasoning on this. I am considering a Gen 1 PST 6-24x50. I have a HST 6-24x50 and really like it (very similar but SFP). I figured the Gen 1 PST would be a great next scope for me.

Athlon offers better glass quality for the same or less price, and the PST Gen 1 has had a number of quality issues as well. They were great when they came out...but in today's market, the Gen 1 PST 6-24 should be about a $400 scope (used price) given the build quality, glass quality, and reticle being so outdated.

If you're happy with your HST, then I'm sure the PST would serve you well. But if you're looking for the best quality and performance for the money, there are many better options IMHO.

The EBR-2C remains very popular, and IMO it is definitely not outdated. If you take a look at the responses to Vortex removing this reticle from the Razor HD lineup you will see that there are still lots of guys (including me) that love this reticle.

I also believe the Gen 1 PST to be superior to the Athlon scopes in the same price range. As a matter of fact, I bought a Midas TAC for an AR build that I did, and after shooting it side by side with a Gen 1 Viper on one of my bolt guns I bought another Viper PST to replace it.

A buddy just switched from a PST to a Nikon FX1000. It seems a very decent scope for the price. It appears Nikon is making good effort to become relevant with their Black product line.

Look at Athlon in this price range before you buy. I'm finding Athlon performs about 2X - 3X above its price point across the board. Decent to outstanding glass and the tracking and mechanical functions seems to be spot on.

Just have a look at Athlon's offerings before you pay 2X as much for the same functionality.

It was just discontinued in the Razor lineup in favor of something with a floating dot and .2 mil holds on the horizontal. Not saying it's un-usable by any means, but I don't personally consider it any better than my SWFA mil-quad, which I believe is outdated.

Outdated reticles...... God I hate .2 mil marks. Some like a duplex. Outdated or personal preference?

That is what I like least, though getting behind it, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My buddy why got one loves it, but his eyes are nearly 15 years older than mine.

Just to be perfectly clear, I do not own this scope (I have had my finger hovering over the add to cart button) so I can't speak to it, but it seems to have lots of fans on the Hide.

I am running a Bushnell LRTSi 4.5-18x44, in Burris XTR 30mm low rings, on a Leupold Mk4 15MOA base.

I run an identical setup on my 700SA 6 Dasher.

If you are fine with a simple mil dot, consider the weaver tactical 3-15. Scopes are bomb proof with great tracking and amazing glass. I regret selling both of mine.
