Hunting & Fishing Scope Size

I have an old school Leupold scope on my old school rifle. I need to get scope covers for it or the scope sock but i dont know what size it is exactly. All it says on the scope is

3x9 Vari-X II

Not sure how to figure out if it is a 3x9x40mm or what? How do you know for sure?

It should be printed on the objective bell. The surest and easiest way to make sure you get correct Butler Creeks is to put the rifle in it's bag or hard case, walk into Academy Sports, go to the gun counter and try out different sizes until you find the ones that fit.

Just measure the size with a micrometer or even a fine ruler.
Cap sizes are marked on the box

Down here in AZ we have sportsman's warehouse, you can bring your gun in there (check in at the counter first) and try on scope caps or something like that.

I'd mic em with a meter, go to the store and mic the caps picking out a nice snug fit pair.

open any cabelas catalog to the scope section and they have all the sizes mapped out on a chart. all you do is touch the end of your scope to the paper chart right in the catalog and pick the size that matches...very simple!
