Hey guys just sold my Scout Squad M1A and ate $100+ on it, all for a good cause... my first AR308. Anyways, I have been looking at the SASS alot, and I wondered if you guys think it would be worth it ?(SASS for $1700) to wait and get an 18" LMT for 500 or 600 more. I have looked at POF's too, the piston would be nice, don't know prices on their 18". I'm looking for an accurate .308 that I can take out to 8 or 900 at least, and can double for closer CQB(at least better than my bolt .308) I am pretty sure I want to put a can on it too, so how would that affect the SASS and LMT vs. the POF? I know DI's sometimes need adjusting in the gas block to run suppressed. My buddy just toasted two different RRAs running his Knights Armament. Luckily they took care of him. Anyways, that's my dillemma, just want to find something sexy and plastic to set my heart on after sending that beautiful walnut out the door today...

No, I want the cqb to be secondary, like I said, just something that won't be eight feet long with a can on it, that I could use for close stuff better than a bolt gun. I have a twenty inch ar that actually works pretty good for everything past thirty yards. Reliability suppressed is important for me, so would piston be best?

Yeah, the REPR's are very nice, and KAC has alot going for them, with the military contract and such. Problem is, a REPR retails for double what I can get a SASS for. Would it really be worth it? Obviously that depends on my budget and what I'm willing to give up. I've heard enough good things about the DPMS to lean that way, and maybe throw on a custom barrel, and maybe the adjustable gas block for a can, if not happy right out of the box. Thanks for your input, anybody with experience or pics, feel free to share!

Don't know much about the Noveske uppers, I'll have to look into them. The SASS is a great value, but it's tempting to save another $400 for an LMT 16".

As far as the can, my gunsmith told me the KAC adjustable gas block will fit on the DPMS or LMT, so that solves my issue I think, weather I do SASS or MWS.

I would highly suggest the LMT. The fit and finish and just overall quality of the LMT is way beyond what DPMS is capable of, not to dis DPMS or anything.

The LMT is a reliable and accurate gun that I have been able to take out to 700 yards and has proven to shoot consistent groups at all distances so far. I havent taken it out to 800 but I doubt I would have a hard time doing so.

For the extra $400-$600 for the LMT over the DPMS, you really are getting a lot. Quick change barrel, super cool BCG, nice 2-stage trigger, monolithic rail/receiver, SR-25 compatible receiver, tactical charging latch, front and rear BIUS, etc.

Plus, if you dont like the stock an dont need the irons, thats an easy $250 in your pocket right there. Thats even MORE bang for your buck.

I must admit, I like the lmt a lot. I would probably like to switch to a more prone-friendly stock though. Maybe the magpul, those seem nice. Anyone know weight differences between dpms sass and lmt ? Also, balance? Jpach, what velocities are you getting from the sixteen inch, with what loads?

I will speak up for POF since I own a couple of their rigs in .308 and 5.56. You can get the 12 incher to get you out to the ranges you are looking for with a little more drop in MOA over the longer barrels but it will be able to get the rounds down range all the same. I think that nowadays any company is looking for something the other guy isnt doing and find a niche to get their product into your hands. Spending the extra cash on two uppers isnt my cup of tea and in reality its not worth it all that much. I personally went with the 20incher for the few extra feet per second extra gained over the shorter barrels. If I was LEO then a 12 would be my choice. Lastly the POF setup is a sweet rig to run suppressed!

Other then that you can look at what sort of barrel you are getting with each gun. What type of features come with each brand of gun. And lastly what are you looking for the gun to ultimately do for you. the POFs can be had for right around 2k if you look long enough same thing with the LMTs.

Buy the AR10 SASS (special adjustable sniper system) and save the $$...spend it on ammo and range time. There's nothing the SASS can't do that the more expensive rifles will, for a lot less. Armalite quality, great customer service, very accurate, lifetime warranty.
