Had to fly to TX for a day trip to help a friend move some stuff,

I carried an empty pelican and filled it with 70LBS of stuff plus had a firearm in it,

checked it in normal; they even took my number to call me if TSA needed to get in it, no call, no word, got the case in Denver with the lock cut

This is why I normally carry TSA locks, but in this case, I just grabbed the first set of locks on the shelf

They will cut your stuff and send it on its way, and they gave me my cut lock back.

And when you wish to inspect your cases that had the firearms in them they will ream your ass and threaten to call security immediately if you do anything besides take it out of the terminal. I asked once when this happened to me what I was supposed to do for proof that stuff was gone if I didn’t open it in front of them to inspect it when it was obvious it had been tampered with. The answer was “not my problem. Leave now or I’m calling security.”

That has happened to me 2 times. Both times the termination flight was in Denver. I would be willing to bet it the commies there in Denver with the bolt cutters. Never happened going anywhere else.

I traveled with a nice Pelican case once, used those damn TSA locks. Watched them inspect it, apparently they never actually LOCKED the case back (no 'click' on those tsa locks at least at that time). Go to Tampa and here comes my case...no locks, nothing..just the bag tag. I discretely opened the case and than God the item I took to a training class in Texas was still there; but you can bet your ass I was sweating out the proverbial equivalent to what fuel that item needed. It was there; but how, after flying through either Atlanta or Detroit I'll never know.

Since then I've only flown with MY locks; no issue but I keep waiting for that cut lock myself.

No bullshit. I took my MIL to the airport one day. While unloading her luggage my microtech somehow from my pocket got clipped to her bag. She went through security and they flag her. She has no idea with an OTF is let alone even have the hand strength to deploy it. Cops come up on a $300 knife and TSA freaks out on her. Super threatening and they finally let her go. Month later she gets a letter from TSA and they put her on some “list”. She’s still pissed at me about it to this day.

I use to fly for work. Out one day and 2 weeks later I'm flying back home. (I'm within reasonable driving distance now) When I check my bags at the Lewiston, ID World International Aereoport, the bag checker would have me sign the little card and place it in the container. Then I would stand by to be hailed by the dipshits that think they are keeping us all safe to run their gloved fingers over all my shit. Then I hand them my locks and they lock it up right there in front of me (they told me they didn't want me to have access to the weapon...ha, dipshits. It's a small town, I even know where 2 of them live, if I wanted to cause some trouble.)
I had to attend client meetings in Little D, stay a few days, then fly on to work. I landed in Little D and retrieved my bags, the locks had been cut. I opened the Pelican case right there in front of the carousel with all sorts of flight mates around. Fuck them, I WANT them to be witnesses that I inspected my shit right then and there if something is fucked up. I wish there were a lock that they would not be able to beat.

Fucking retards. 100% checked in properly, little x-rayable ID card signed and inside. Obviously a gun type case. So they cut the locks, finger my shit some more, put yet another little tag in there to tell me they had been in there with my cut locks and then send it on out on the carousel with everything else from the plane.

I sure as hell don't. They're somewhere between my truck, other truck, other truck, garage, backpacks for various activities, camper, etc.

I buy lots of mags. Keep a few spares anywhere I'll need them for several different guns.


Not hard to forget you dropped a few in a bag and then grab it months later and not notice them.

Then again half the time I have to look 3 places for a particular pistol as I tend to stash them in my trucks and camper and leave them for months.


If you can't tell, crime isn't really a thing here. I may devote much more attention if I lived in a urban setting.

11 years ago flying to Africa. Have guns locked in a Pelican case. Ammo locked in a separate Pelican inside my bag. The guns were fine but it took them an hour to figure out if the ammo could be in a checked bag or had to be added as an extra bag in the small Pelican case. Final consensus was it had to be a separate bag. Longest trip of my life wondering if my small pelican case was going to make it. It did an all worked out. Talked to a buddy who is flying there this summer and I asked him if he could put his ammo in a locked Pelican in his bag or if it had to go separate. He talked to the airlines and 11 years later they couldn’t give him a straight answer.

Flying from Africa on another trip we detoured on the way back through London as I wasn’t bringing back guns. Flew from Zim to RSA and then to London. They lost of all my wife and my bags. Trip insurance paid for itself on that trip and we got to go on a shopping spree. Checking back in through Heathrow, I forgot a Benchmade in my carry on bag as with the lost baggage we did some switching around of stuff and it wound up in my wife’s backpack.

It was found on the X-ray. Not an issue I thought. Give it up and be on the way. No…the agent took the knife out. I apologized and said it was my fault etc. The agent said it wouldn’t be a problem unless it locked. It’s a benchmade, they lock. The agent calls their supervisor. The supervisor calls the airport police. Passports are taken and now we are in front of two London police decked out in all the trimmings and one carrying an MP5. Turns out locking knives are a big no no. Explained the situation, still nothing. Finally spotted a crap looking folder on the guys vest. Asked him about that knife. Turns out he can carry one but it was a crap knife he said. “Rubbish” was the term I believe. I told him I realized we made a mistake, know we have lost it, but didn’t want any issue and just wanted to get back to the states. I told them it was a fantastic knife and it would be a shame to have it thrown away instead of being used by the service. He finally realized that I was trying to tell him to take the knife for himself. One officer stopped writing. They had a quick talk and we got passports back. Told to have a good flight and don’t bring knives through London again. The last view I saw of them was the one officer replacing his knife with mine. It’s probably still in “service”.

Honestly it's because I used a bag I had out during a hunting trip prior. I generally carry a G34 With spare mags. Being lazy I still had clean clothes and such in there so I never pulled everything out. I also seldomly fly so I just didn't think twice. I'm glad you came out of it ok with no real beef from the Feds. Since you don't fly very often, I'm guessing you aren't heartbroken about losing any TSA Pre-check privileges as they mentioned in the letter?

It also took them 3 years to mail me that warning letter so I'm guessing they were not to worried about my violation..
