Seekins HAVAK Precision Rifle

Just purchased the original style Havak in the pro hunter stock from Cabela’s.

Bolt ran relatively smooth, a few hundred cycles and it was really nice. The fit and finish was good, and the entire package is light.

I really detest this stock’s low cheek position though. It’s almost impossible to imagine holding properly with this thing.

I’ve read every response here and it seems that there’s no chassis this thing fits into without significant modifications, eh?

I believe your best bet is adding a stock pack or getting the stock modified for an adjust cheek piece. There is somewhere here on the Hide that had that done to his Havak. Looked good too.

Ordered a triad tactical pack. Hopefully that works.

I agree that the modified stock w riser looked GOOD! My issue with that is having to bed the stock again when it comes back... which I’ve never done. Haha.

Mammoth, why would you have to bed the stock again if you added an adjustable cheek piece? The rifle already comes bedded from Seekins.

If this is the rile you guys are talking about it's mine. All I did was send the stock to Stock Doc and have him do his adj. cheek piece job on it. Got the stock back, dropped my barreled action back in, and went shooting.

Looks so awesome.

I just assumed once they were separated I’d have to do it over again for it to be right?

Took my 6.5 Havak out today for some 300 yard shooting. Gun is completely stock with an older Leopold scope that I had laying around.

The stock is way too low for me to shoot prone. I made a jury rigged cheekpiece out of a rag, 100mph tape and moleskin. That helped a lot.

Shot a few groups at 300 with the Hornady American Gunner ammo. This gun seems to like that stuff pretty well.

This is not the normal group by any means but certainly shows what the rifle is capable of.

I emailed KGR about a bravo stock fitting the Seekins to see if they had any new updates.

Hi,

We have a slightly modified backbone coming which has a chamfered cutout for the recoil lug. This should allow for better fitment on some receivers with a built in recoil lug. However, this is not specifically designed for the Seekins action so I can’t guarantee it will fit.

Thank you,

They said they expect the backbone to be available in about a month.

Am I crazy for wanting to switch out the McMillan Game Warden for KRG? The lenth of pull just feels short for me on the Game Warden.

I jut placed my havak order and I already have my bravo in hand. We will see how it fits. I already have a defiance action with intergrated lug, maybe I’ll check figment with it

Well after one stock didn't work and my trials and tribulations with the second stock (AG Composites Carbon Fiber) and the fact that the Havak is slightly different than the standard Rem 700 profile, I finally got everything worked out and completed.

Wow! That looks great. What stock is that?

Thank you! It's made by AG Composites for Stocky's. It's called the STS. I had to make some minor modifications so the action would fit, such as the bolt release and I widened the ejection port. I also did the cut out in the cheek piece. All of that was fairly easy.

Appreciate for the constant updates. I just placed my order so we’ll see how much modifications I’ll need to do to the bravo stock

Nope, I love my Bravo. #KRGAllTheThings

Anyone have any actual range reports, load data, initial accuracy impressions, statements regarding fit, form, and function of the rifle? I have a seekins coupon I have to use before July 1 and plan on buying one, just wanted to started building some information about it.

Same here just placed an order on a .300wm Saturday and currently use Hornady 165 SF ammo but has anyone heard about the wait time on receiving the rifles?

Anyone have any experience with the leupold vx3i lrp? I ordered the 6.5 CM a few months back. Just trying to get some input on it.

We have 5 of the VX-3i LRP 6.5-20x50mm (30mm) Side Focus MIL FFP scopes for our university precision shooting club. I have mounted up three of them on RPR's and a weatherby. Another member shot a club match with one of them. The glass is very clear. Clicks feel nice and tactile on the elevation but were a little soft on the windage. The zero stop is interesting and pretty simple. In my limited testing the one scope tracked alright but I need to go confirm that with more testing. I like they include a cat tail for the magnification ring. The TMR reticle is workable but not my favorite as I have grown fond of reticles that have .2mil hashes in it, but this one can get the job done. The one point I am not fond of is the parallax. It is just marked with a series of increasing circles which have no physical significance to me. I would like to know what yardage the parallax is at. I haven't found the parallax to be very forgiving either. At the top end of the magnification, the image gets a little bit darker and the edges are a little blurry, like a lot of other optics in the price range exhibit at high magnification. Overall it is not a bad optic. There are others in the price range that I personally think do things a little better.

If I was purely hunting with my havak I could live with the Loopy for a low weight setup and good glass. It could get me a start into competition, but I would be looking to upgrade it at some point.

I think the big question is, what is your criteria in an optic and what will you be using it for? Might be worth starting a help/recommendation thread over on the optics section.

If anyone is interested I've got a 30% and 20% off coupons for Seekins. With the 30% off you can get a brand new SP10 6.5 CM for $1850.

Send me a PM if interested.
Thanks....Dang looks like I’ll be sweating it out as 4 mos is 4 days before Ga. Deer season starts ?

All I can say is don’t expect the customer service guys to be any help with ideas on how much longer it may be. I called 6/19 to check on it. Was told they didn’t have any idea and it wasn’t on the upcoming build list so they couldn’t help me. 6/21 it shipped. So pretty much they didn’t check on anything, just gave me an answer to get me off the phone.

I have a Havak in a 6.5 PRC. I am very pleased with it. Sub ½ MOA with both the 143 ELDX ammo and the 147 ELD-M ammo. Action has gotten considerably smoother with minimal use. I think it is a tremendous value. I have far more expensive custom guns. Makes me question their value a little.

Thanks for the heads up, and that tends to go hand in hand the hired mouths are just for yapping and if you don’t get lucky with a real talking head then that’s what you get.

dworrel, I have a brand new Havak 6.5 PRC i have been trying to sell since we didn't draw any sheep tags (needed a lightweight rifle) and now your making me rethink selling it. Can you tell me the velocities you were getting with both the ammos? And what did you use for a brake (or a can)?
Thank you
