Semi-auto blues

So...I bought an AR-15. A "nice" one ( Check it out: Noveske Rogue Hunter ). I've been working up a load for this rifle and I'm super bummed out. I've been shooting F-Class for a while, with a bolt gun (here it is My Bolt Gun ), and I'm used to shooting 1/4 - 1/2 MOA all day. It just isn't happening with my AR.

I did buy my AR to shoot 3 Gun so MOA accuracy isnt even required so I know it's not a big deal it's just weird not shooting 5-shot ragged holes. Have any of you experienced the "semi-auto blues" after shooting a bolt gun then hopping over to an AR?

Two different sticks, recoil, follow through, cheek weld, grip are all different between the two. What works on a bolt will not work on a gasser.

Search through this forum, there is a lot of info here on the differences and how to "ride" a gas gun.

One technique I have found useful for shooting groups with a semi auto is to single load each round. Breaking my position to load another round forces me to reestablish my position the same exact way I did it for the first shot. After I do that for a while and my groups improve, I will load up 5 or so rounds and shoot a group but still reestablishing my position in between shots.

That rifle should be easily shooting sub MOA groups. Not sure what loads you are shooting but try something closer to a MK262 load.

I also noticed my groups really tighten up around the 200 round mark out of my Noveske 18 inch barrel.

My bull varmint AR will shoot "ragged holes" with certain loads. If I get an inch group with a lighter barreled one I am more than happy. Gotta keep in mind what the rifle was intended for and go from there.

My JP AR has a 14.5inch barrel and shoots nice tight groups at a 100 yds. Gas-guns are just different to shoot I think.

Gas gun is definitely more difficult to shoot for me. I have spent far more time on a bolt. It is also very different feeling and still takes getting used to for me. The recoil is vastly different and since so much is going on after you pull the trigger; you have to be rock solid on it. Trust me, any shortcomings in form will show up on an ar10 or ar15.

You will get used to it, so don't be too bluesy : ). Good excuse to wear out some brass if you ask me.

Shooting F class should have you near shooters that know how to ride a gas gun. Find one and let him have at it... along with another QD mount and known good glass.

I'm not of the school that teaches gas guns are such a mustang ride. Different, yes. Especially at long range but not at 100yds.

Grab two respected loads from Federal and two more Black Hills and let a known gas rider get in the saddle. Screw the hoodoo voodoo at 100yds... it doesn't exist.

Then have that shooter watch you shoot a few groups and give you an AAR.
