Just wondering about this. I have a 7mm SAUM barreled Sendero action that is in good condition as far as I can tell, but the barrel channel won't line up right. Is this just a matter of getting it bedded, or is there bigger problems? The barrel is not touching the left side, but it's dang close. I've tried it in different stocks and it's always the same thing. What do you think? If I need to get a pic I can. Thanks

No it's not touching, but it just bothers me. If it's not a big deal I won't worry about it. I guess I need to get it bedded anyways. Will that fix the alignment?

Not uncommon for the factory Remingtons that I have owned. If it shoots and tracks correctly, why not relieve the left side a little bit and forget about it? I've had pretty good luck with Remington rifles that had the exact same problem however, if it doesn't shoot or doesn't shoot/track correctly at distance, get rid of it.

a bedding job might fix it, but if you're not really bothered by it leave it alone. If you are, I would bed the bbl channel then repaint. Just make sure you put enough masking tape ob the bbl so it will free float.

mine is the same way in my mcmillan, if it really bothers you bed it. If not then leave it alone it will be fine as long as its not touching.

Do you have the stock Remington recoil lug? If not, make sure it's not contacting the bottom of the lug inlet. Had that problem on my AICS. Shaving the bottom of the lug fixed the problem.

If/when you bed it, put a donut of tape around the barrel near the end of the channel. Not large enough to cause the barrel to not sit in the channel, but just enough to center the barrel in the channel. Once the bedding hardens, your action will sit in such a fashion that the barrel will be centered.

Common with Remington barrels. 1. Either the recoil lug is rotated slightly causing it to push on the stock causing the barreled action to push left. 2. The barrel has lots of run-out and isn't time correctly (Remington doesn’t time barrels), or 3. both 1 and 2.

Yes you can run enough tape arond the barrel to fit in the channel and center up.But make sure it is not going to bind either of your screws that hold your action in and putting tension on it.Tension or unwanted pressures make impacts do funny things. It would be like looking for an electrical problem on a new car!
