How would be the best way to go about trying to buy back ones service rifle they had issued to them at one time? I still have the serial # from when I was in the Cav. You see it wasn't just some ole rifle........it was an actual Winchester stamped M14 and I had that rifle issued to me for a VERY long time. I would give almost anything to get it back. At the very least I'd even take a stripped receiver(Winchester) to build another.....

Re: Service Rifle

Its illegal for the government to de-mill a select fire or full auto firearm. In short that receiver will stay with the government until it's destroyed.

Re: Service Rifle

yes sir! That rifle was something else, saved my butt several times and I'd always tell guys "I'd loan ya my ole lady, before I loaned my rifle or my Dogs"(Avid Houndsmen) Anyhow, I guess a call to fulton or start with a stripped receiver would be the next step. Are the "Winchester" M14/M1a receivers still out there??

Re: Service Rifle

Military don't let their rifles go to us peons. Closest is getting a CMP gun, but nothing in the lines of M14s.

I did the next best thing. When I hired out on the Anchorage Police Dept. they issued my a Model 28 S&W. When I retired, they let me keep the gun.

I retired from the AK NG about the same time, I took the letter giving me my service revolver to my boss in the NG and told him he should do the same, let me keep my NM M14.

Needless to say, that didn't float.
