Nope. NW Indiana, and they are new... part of the repaint. They're under the clear too. Nice touch.

Took a nice weekend trip through the White Mountains with the wife and a friend. Great ride.
New paint on the '96... but no sunshine to show it off...
180 Bonanza? I had one back in the day…
I don't know if it was a "Bonanza" or not, Yamaha, definitely 180cc, a two stroke. I remember buying it used for $157 I earned bussing tables at my uncles restaurant. Had to throw in the extra $7 for a new battery.

2-stroke twin, Looks like a 1967 or maybe 1968 Yamaha ? maybe 200cc or 350cc . Could be a CS or YM or YD ? cant remember there were a few different models . It not a RD but it was predecessor to the Yamaha RD's 2-stroke twins in the 70's . We used to build those little 350 RD twins over, bored out and pistons, they ran like a Raped Ape on the street.

Pretty positive I saw one of you gentlemen today. Too bad he didn’t have rear view mirrors. I can’t even imagine the paranoia that would have been birthed, seeing a LEO obviously taking his picture.
1990 XRV 750 Africa Twin. Took a cruise from Seattle to central IL. 3165 miles. Not a bad shakedown ride.

Added a chopped tour pack to it last month. Makes a huge difference when riding with my wife onboard. The tour pack has 3” of adjustment forward and back making it’s easy to position for the best possible ride comfort.
Took my AT from eastern WA lo Las Vegas with friends on Harleys.
They laughed until I left them in the dust on all the straightaways and their tough guy bikes (both bikes) broke and one had parts fall off.

Given the tremendous outpouring of love that everyone has for HD lately I wanted to share these pics of the completed scooter.
Had the rims powder coated along with a few other pieces, new skins, a full inspection and we're back in business. Probably get the belt guard done also. I always thought this bike had waaayy too much chrome/silver on it so I tried to balance it out some and stay distinctive. Purchased NIB in October of 2003. 5668 original miles. Ride safe members!

I believe I got them to match the shoes, likely Sears and Roebuck. Big bells were the way to go!

You can ride pretty much the length of the pipeline on the access road except for the parts through military bases. Do I recall that right?
Pretty much. Not sure about the pumping stations, and there are unbridged rivers. Some spots that are very steep.
Just completed the Idaho BDR on a KLR 650 with 5 friends
Corn won’t even grow here. Yes, oil is big, but the oil fields are far away. The Alaska Pipeline is 800 miles long. We’re about in the middle. Here’s one of the rivers I mentioned that aren’t bridged. You have to go back to the last access road, ride out to the highway to cross, then find the next access road to get back to the pipeline.

Nice day for a ride in my AO. Stopped by a shady spot by the river and got some better shots of the bike too. Was out for the monthly meeting of our chapter of CVMA. (Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association)

Harley’s are cool and have tons of torque, but an inline 4 with a full system on the pipe is just plain ass bitchen !
And yea it has about 7,500 to go before its first valve adjustment, lol.
Not bad for a 2002, had 4000 on the clock when I bought it bone stock with the original Bridgestones on it.

I had one of the 2003 Kenny Roberts Special Edition FZ1 Gen1s for a long while. Probably my favorite bike to date, tons of torque, super maneuverable, and just an absolute blast to ride. It sat for a few years due to a variety of things and it never ran right after that despite being in two different shops for over 10 months. I was hoping to tear it back apart and fix what they couldn’t (I rebuilt the bike when I first got it), but we ended up moving to Indiana and it didn’t make the trip. Took a total wash on it, which still makes me cringe when I think about it. Helluva a fun bike though, I’d love to have another someday.

That’s a dam shame you could not get someone to do a carb overhaul.
When I bought mine same issue, sat to long and it was missing.
Out the carbs came and sent them to Ivan at Rocklen county motorcycle tuning in New York.
He ported the boots and did his MB carb upgrade and this thing has power everywhere. Air box mod and full system really wake it up.
Love your slip on, don’t see a lot of those around, pretty cool.

So with winter closing in... finished major service and a couple of subtle mods to the Dakar. Cross-country (by way of Omaha and Colorado Springs) for early spring. So had to get it done!
Biggest thing was the switch to a big front disk. The original disk is tiny... and when these bikes are fully-loaded they are not very effective. So fitted a relocation kit for the caliper and a bigger front disk.
Also swapped out the original halogen headlamp with an LED. Mainly to reduce the load on the generator. These bikes were not designed for a lot of high-consumption accessories. Driving lights, GPS, heated vest, phone charger... So reducing load is a big deal. LED headlamp was biggest draw-reducer. And part of the reason for doing it is that I wanted to add a couple of PIAA driving lights. Also LED by PIAA. I rarely ride at night any more... but really want the extra light when I do!
In adding the PIAA's, I didn't just want to do the usual "hose clamps and chewing gum" installation on a bike never really designed for them. My bull guard (butterfly guard, really!) was faded and the powder coat was turninig pink. So I took that off, which is pretty much more difficult than assembling the Space Shuttle. Blindfolded. Using vice grips. But got it off. Welded a couple of tabs on it. And then re-sprayed in red Imron. Kind of hard to see, but you can see the welded-on mounts if you look.
Also finially put a giant foot on the kick stand. I can't count the number of times I've had stand sink and dump bike. This solved the problem.
Last new tires... this set I am hoping lasts me across country and up to Deadhorse and back. Yup... Alaska next! Sprinig 2025... will be VT to SAC museum in Omaha. Then Colorado Springs to give a couple of talks. Then back to the PNW... and if I can make it work... Canadian ViaRail back East in an observation car. I love trains, too!
The other side...
And it's away for the winter... keeping the HMMWV company as they swap stories of adventures...
Anyone who wants to meet up next spring while I'm riding cross country... for a mile or 500... Glad to have a fun SH cross-country meet up ride!

Man that is a cool Scoot, the brake upgrade looks pretty stout. I can image that bike with you loaded down is pretty hefty, bigger brakes are a good thing !
I want a adventure bike so bad, The Aprilia Tuareg 660 keeps calling my name, maybe one day.
You did a really nice job building it out, hope your riding threw Alaska with a 454 casull on your hip.

Yeah... KM. I bought the bike from a German... West German Spec. Even in 1990... they were still trying to figure out if they really were West German... or if the whole 'wall' thing was Maskirova.

I just got this , added skid plate and crash bars . Just added a larger windscreen today . Have yet to do : tires aka 60/40's , springs in front and tune dampers , spring on rear and bags and racks .
Oh almost forgot . Gotta get an exhaust kit to move muffler up under rear seat . Can't do water crossings as is .
Your not going to wear that boxer motor out. That’s the beauty of that bike, minimal electronics.
I don’t think you could build a cooler nastalgic cross county bike.
It’s super bad ass !
