I ghosted Facebook. Permanently. So I’ll kill my time here now.
I miss the “1000yrd new shooter” threads. They got abused a lot. Some stuck around. Some disappeared.
Oh, and I mis Tres-Mon. I still use his posts as a reference for people who are new to reloading. They have been summed up better than any paper bound book I have read.

I remember discovering the old hide long before the scout debacle. I think my screenname was bigsky then. Anyhow the forum blew my mind. I had never found such a wealth of info specifically on bolt actions and reloading. It was like discovering a gold mine. This was back when I had a nextel phone. My friend and I would spend hours looking through threads trying to figure out if we should build 308s or 260's and then there was a little talk about a goofy cartridge called a 65creedmoor. A lot of people then treated it like a wildcat. Times sure are different. I specifically remember logging in one day and that shout box appeared. That was a comic train wreck.
I think that was the "I've got a scratch on my Nightforce" tantrum that led to VJJ's updated avatar.
I think I missed whatever the deal was with that guy. I remember seeing continuing references to him at Scout but didn't know what had happened.
Major league troll. One of his more infamous moments was starting a shitstorm about carrying condition 3 vs condition 1 if I recall correctly.
I remember when we hit 1K members.
The shit storms in most every sub forum.
The fuck fest in fieldcraft with a dick who did not know how to use a compass.
The cock contest between the Hide an that other place.

The shit storm water boy (aka h2o man) always tried to start if you did not praise SEI.
The fuck fest that happened when never BTDT types were giving advice to those who held the mos an were deployed
All the times Larry (aka NOBODY) was banned for telling the truth, in Larrys way.

I watched Switchblades first days, that was a hoot! Then when he was deployed, an his returned a changed man.
The Hide has seen many changes, but the biggest change I see is the amount of FSA, an basement dwelling types who think TV & COD is real world. I an many others made the comment almost at the same time once at a shoot. We would pay to see them shoot, let alone a real gun fight.

Tresmon, one of the friendliest and well spoken resources we had. He and his information helped me a lot when I decided to finally sign up for this mess. He was still around not to long ago, but I'm afraid he's moved on to bigger things. What a wealth of information. Tresmon was all about helping people and gave so much of his personal time for the betterment of all of us. Can't say enough good things about that man.
The Tuna on the other hand was a stuffed cannibal. You know, full of himself. And meant it. He no longer would lift his foot off his dick before he'd do it again, and boy did that poor bastard pay dearly for it. Turned into an A-1 shit magnet. Geezus those were epic dog piles.
The daily brutal beat downs, hell, sometimes 3 or 4 different ones a day, was staggering. Before I joined and was lurking I couldn't take it anymore. HAD to become part of this madness and damn glad I did. God only knows how many good people were ran off over the years, but I'll tell ya this, you definitely had to either have very very thick skin or downs syndrome to make it through the initiations. Gotta ear to ear grin just thinking about it.

I have a SureFire 762 brake and a Harris bipod generously given to me for free By one of the victims from TR.net. They came off of his rifle from them. I will keep him anonymous, he is still around once in a while. But the generosity and brotherhood that can exist here, once you get past taking offense to anything, is second to none. This is a community/brotherhood/family that is world wide.

I remember when one of the actual BTDT guys, who'd won the Sniper Comp at Benning joined the forum and made the mistake of saying in a thread that he'd done so with a LaRue rifle and Horus reticle. He was totally unprepared for the fallout, actually verified his real identity as the dude who'd won the comp, and people were still throwing shit at him that he had no idea what he was talking about. It was a banner day for fucktardery here.
I remember the night Frank was in the Shout Box, and some kid popped up in there who had decided to call himself "Combat Swimmer."
Frank asks him if he's a qualified Combat Swimmer, and all hell breaks loose. Kid got real, real small thereafter and disappeared shortly thereafter.

Speaking of the old Shoutbox, do any members who used the Shoutbox back then remember the dumbass bet/dare that Skankster and I had going on in regards to me eating ghost peppers? I swear it got goofier and goofier as the days went on. Best part was when I did finally live streamed it on Justin.tv, the fucker misses it. Talk about an anti-climatic cherry on top of a shit sundae!
One thing I will say about SH, that sets it apart... is the civility. Disagreements are mostly handled among gentlemen... there good natured teasing, but little vitriol. The education level (especially among those who aren't holding a 52-card stack of degrees) is amazing. There is more than one form of education. Trolls and those unwilling to debate as gentlemen, have a very short life here. The quality of ideas and the knowledge of shooting... gets you a seat at the table. Little (or nothing) else matters.
When it comes to the Interwebs, it's a very unique place in that regard.

I agree that we have an incredible collection of members, but I'm remembering a lot more past stupidity than you're giving us credit for.
Might as well be. I think he's popped in and out twice. Some of his change of heart was wrapped up around the "Nom, Nom, Nom" concept. He wanted to mod such a subforum in the worst way.
I thought I remembered him there briefly, but wasn't sure.
He was logged in here 2 weeks ago or so. Didn't see any posts from him, but then again I usually don't as I rarely spend time in the pit.
I think he was also a President's 100 pistol shooter as well. His new work engagement may have precipitated a tone-down. I seem to remember they happened about the same time.
As others have mentioned, remember the shoutbox on the sidebar, and a young guy coming in hitting on Franks's daughter then Frank shows up. I also remember the white envelop with the red mark on it that blinked when you got a message. Good stuff - especially when you were trying to burn some hard earned cash and you were first in line to score a screaming deal on something.
The legend that is Gecko45 will never die! And then there was Spongee. They may have gotten married after gay marriage was legalized.
Aside from the humor and antics that most of ya'll already covered, the ones I remember most who aren't around here (or as much) are Lindy, Old Top, SwitchBlade, Eddieo, CKA, and others.

Maser, you beat me to mentioning Sponge Bob aka Spongee. I swear that kid/guy/whatever came to SH to simply be abused. He seemed to revel in it. Wasn't it him that actually asked hiders to send him money so he could move out west? F'n beggar.
Markco has been seen recently. I was just thinking it was nice seeing some of the older more knowledgeable members coming back.
I remember there being a 5 shot group rule and 2 3 and 4 shot groups were banned.
