Suppressors Sharing Suppressor between Bolt Gun and ar15?

Excuse the suppressor newbness here, but looking for some opinions on sharing a suppressor between ar15 and bolt gun hosts.

The wife recently got a Silencerco Omega 300 suppressor (purchased it for her during the 2 for 1 sale), and she wants the ability to share it between her ar15 and her bolt gun. I was originally going to leave it as a direct thread (it's a DT 5/8x24), but obviously that wouldn't work for the ar15. Leaving it direct thread would allow me to selfishly use it on my bolt gun, but I have my own suppressor coming eventually anyways.

In order to share it between a bolt gun and her suppressor, what are my best options? I was thinking of possibly converting to the Q plan B setup, and put cherry bomb brakes on both her ar15 and bolt gun. Are there better alternatives that I should be considering?

Just buy a thread adapter. I have one,and use it when friends or other's on my trust want to use them on their rifles with 1/2 x 28 threads. Screw the adapter into the suppressor,tighten it down and then screw the suppressor on the rifle.

I do that using the Dead Air KeyMo mounts.
If you want taper mounts (like the Q) I would go Griffin Plan A over Q's Plan B because they have better availability and more options for brakes and flash hiders, etc.

I feel pretty lucky my wife enjoys shooting, her absolute favorite is ar15's, though she likes her 6BRA bolt gun I built for her as well.

We both got bit by the suppressor bug during the 2018 Quiet Riot - she wants to suppress everything. It's awesome not having to justify buying a suppressor, she's more gun ho then I am on it.

I just talked with her, and she eventually wants a dedicated suppressor for the ar15's and one for her bolt gun. So now I'm wondering do I leave the Omega as a dedicated ar15 can and get something like a TBAC Ultra 9 for her bolt gun? Or get a different can as the dedicated ar15 suppressor? Decisions, decisions...

PS - any troubles switching between the direct thread and ASR adapters? I hear they easily get stuck and can be a bitch to swap out.

lol, perhaps my wife NOT shooting is saving me money after all! If you got the coin, I would definitely go TBAC for your bolt guns and leave the Omega as an AR can.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. If you run direct thread you should take the thread adapter off from time to time (say 200 rounds) and clean up the threads on the can, or the ASR mount wont be able to screw down all the way. The reverse is opposite, since the ASR mount sits deeper and it wont cause issues getting the direct thread back on.

You could just mount an asr mount on the bolt gun.
I have a rugged brake on my 6.5 cm and mounts on all my ar's and have no issues swapping the can around.

It gets swapped between 300 blk SBR, 5.56 SBR, 5.56, and 7.62 AR platforms and bolt actions in .223, .243, 6.5CM, and .308 and I haven't had an issue with repeatability in POI shift. I did manage to launch my can downrange one day because I was a dummy and didn't twist the lock down ring, but I am chalking that up to operator error.

I'd personally go with a different mounting system altogether IMO. Something taper like Griffin. Put a plan A in the rear of the Omega and buy 3 or 4 taper mounts. The ASR isn't too bad. Folks don't grab the can up high enough when putting in on the ASR mount. Their palm comes into contact with the lock ring as they're spinning on the can and moves the lock ring towards the closed position causing the base of the can to not be seated all the way. Then they close the ring the rest of the way thinking it's locked down and snug just to find out it wasn't when they launch it.

Adjustable blocks help. Charging handle (PercisionReflex) didn't seem to make any difference to me. Haven't tried an adjustable carrier.

My favorite solution is still low blow back or pass through suppressors... she wants dedicated cans anyway

I run an omega 300 on bolt guns and gas guns from .223 to 300 win and all I do is have both 1/2 and a 5/8 thread adapters. Pretty easy to find and inexpensive.

Sure if you want to do some cool commando change over in 10 seconds from one rifle to the next it doesn’t work but otherwise it works fine

Though I do have a turbo k2 in jail that will likely get most of the ar15 work once it’s out

Adjustable gas block for the blowback. I’ve tried all kinds of stuff and nothing is as good as that.

Not a Larue snake oil fan at all , but the Larue Tranquilo had very little blow back as well.

Other wise the Surefire Socoms are a solid option if slightly more blow back is acceptable.

I've heard mixed things about OSS.

Surefires definitely seem to be a fan favorite. TDS Bantam II seems like a cool option. People seem to really like the Nomad 30 on ar15's - plus with that option is that I can convert that system to use the same system as the Omega (whatever that ends up being).

Yeah, OSS tends to create polarized opinions.

No personal experience with the Dead Air Nomad or any TDS products, but I've heard good things.

I've done the launchy thing too. My ASR mounts are mostly ok but I've got one that I've had come loose a few times. Not enough that it would cause issues, but it was just kind of in between teeth. I screw the can on pretty tight too. Just tolerance stacking. Probably wouldn't be good on a precision rifle. I really like taper mounts in general. No locking mechanism but I've never had one come loose and I know it's not going to launch downrange.

While I'm not a huge fan of the owner of Q, the Plan B coupled with Cherry Bombs seemed to be the most elegant and simplistic solution for what I'm trying to achieve. It's a plus that multiple different brands of suppressors can be converted to the Plan B system.

Launching a can would drive my wife nuts, and I think that would really sour it for her so I wanted to eliminate that possibility, which pulled the ASR system out of contention.

While the Area 419 system seems nice and we'll thought out, the bolt gun will never be shot without a can so I don't need a muzzle brake for it, and didn't want spendy muzzle brakes on ar15's which wouldn't be shot suppressed all the time.

Lastly, just going the thread adapter route, while the cheapest, would leave the ar15's without muzzle devices which was a no-go for me, plus there's that small chance of tolerance stacking coming into play, and while probably very minimal, the chance of a baffle strike is probably greatest here (arguably perhaps with the ASR improperly mounted).

Damn, this sport isn't cheap. But I think the route I went is going to work perfectly for my needs. Thanks for all the thoughts and conversation on the matter.

You'll be happy with it. I've got two Q cans that run on the cherry bomb. It's simple and effective. I've never had one come loose or get stuck. Returns to zero extremely well. A lot of people (especially on snipershide) can't get over Kevin's personality (he is kinda a dick) but his products are well thought out.

We're you able to find 1/2x28 Cherry Bombs? I thought they had been out of stock most places for several months.

You can also just use an appropriately sized DT mount for your Omega, like this:

The Area 419 system seems to be a smart way to go, especially if your focus is precision rifles and you also want the ability to shoot with a good muzzle brake.

I decided against it as the bolt gun was going to be shot 100% suppressed, and I didn't want/need expensive muzzle brakes on the ar15's, which weren't always going to be shot suppressed.

But for a precision rifle oriented suppressor swap + muzzle brake capability, I don't think you can beat the A419 system.

I bought the 1/2x28 cherry bombs on backorder on Impact Guns. Never bought from them before. Couldn't find the 1/2x28 in stock anywhere. I hope they beat me home, they have until April to get there.

I was looking at the Hansohn Brothers DT mount - looks nice. If I was swapping the suppressor between precision rifles I would definitely go that route. Swapping between precision rifle and ar15's made the choice a bit trickier.

I bought the Hansohn Brothers 6.5mm titanium end cap for the Omega, looking forward to trying it out. They sell good products and seem to have some of the best prices around from the snooping I've done.

I have a Ultra 7 that I use on my AI and Larue OBR.
POI is consistent with the Ultra 7 with both rifles zeroed suppressed.

I use a GSL Multi Cal on everything. I have about 5,000 rounds though it with everything from 22LR , 218 BEE, 223/556, .243, 6mm AR/Grendel, 6mm Creedmore to 300 Win mag with the lions share of my shooting with a 223 for prairie dogs. This comes with all the thread on and quick mount adapters. not a single problem. With the bolt guns very little POI with the AR my POI shifts about an inch at 100 yards.

For the price (with all the adapters included) it was hard to beat....

I think there are a lot of good options floating around. I started out with a aac 7.62 can as a do it all can. Several cans later, I still think it was a good start that I could move from gun to gun, while I waited for money and stamps.

I will say it looks like a very feature packed suppressor, seems to be pretty well thought out from what little I know about semi-auto/are suppressors go.

The only thing that hurts is the price tag, but I can see why it commands the price it does. I'm about to be going into a "career transition", so it's very difficult for me to justify a $1500 suppressor when I can spend $400-600 to suppress an ar15.

If I was still single, didn't own a house, and was on an expat assignment making some good $$$, I would be looking hard at the CGS (or KAC for that matter). But I don't think in my current case that it's what I should be spending my money on.
