Does anyone have experience with these actions? I am in the process of piecing together a rifle and since my budget is slightly limited ($2.5k is desireable) I was looking at a stiller Tac300, but it was brought to my attention that the Shilen action is made by Stiller and appear to be more readily available. Does anyone know if this is true? Also, does anyone have experience with these actions? I would hate to drop 1k on an action just to have a rebranded rem700 that still needs truing and modification.

A friend of mine built a .223 on a DGR, turned out fantastic. Great rifle. Also have seen a few at local matches, they did very well.
Lol... while completely unhelpful, I did have to titter at that. In a way, maybe that was helpful because trying to get information on these is turning out to be a pain in the ass and that lightened my mood.
If you ever think you'll swap barrels, ask them if they will sell bolt heads separately. I've heard that they are not exactly supportive of the idea.
Another note, you could use a prefit barrel from Pacnor or Criterion with the barrel nut and have the perfect union of Savage and Remington.

A few months ago I spoke to Shilen about selling me an action and an additional bolt head. They were less than receptive about the idea.
It's my understanding that the actions are made by Stiller for Shilen. From talking with Stiller, they are essentially the Predator model. Then, from reading the Stiller website for the Predator model actions, the bolts are supplied from PTG. My guess is that Shilen wouldn't sell new bolt heads because they really don't have any to sell. Granted, I don't know what the firing pin detail looks like on these, so I don't know if the firing pin protrusion is adjustable with new bolt heads or not. Also, in talking with Criterion, they wouldn't chamber a small shank barrel in some of the magnum calibers.
I appreciate all of your input. I have a lot of confidence in stiller actions, so knowing that made me much less hesitant about a purchase. Unfortunately, I was led to believe they had the model I need in stock, but that turned out to be false and they have a 6-8 month wait for new ones. Finding this out has made me rethink the purchase because if I am going to have to wait, I might as well get one of the actions that I really wanted.
I went through hell trying to find reviews for DGR's, and decided to give them a shot. I couldn't be happier with the rifle. Every aspect of the gun is smooth and well put together, not to mention it stacks everything I put through it. Buy with confidence!!
I just finished putting together a short action .284 Winchester "tactical" rifle with a Shilen DGR and 4-groove barrel. I also used the Shilen comp trigger. I'm still doing load development but I am pretty happy with turnout thus far. There are a few things to know about using one for a build, depending on what your details are.
