Chucks never go out of style. But I have no idea what you’re referring to
The shoes I seen were like a lace up hiking shoe with a red sole. Although I am interested in hearing what others like and why. Looking for a quality shoe.
I tend to wear SI gear because most of the guys I instruct, do.
I hated Bates, they fell apart on me so, I went to Reebok, but they’ve worn down so fast it’s insane...
Only shoes that’ve really held up for me are the 5.11 taclites and the Ranger Tactical’s.

Probably saw folks in Solomon’s. Lightweight, grippy, comfy, and come in both obnoxiously bright, and subdued colors.

I own Solomon’s in both light weight trail and Gore-tex for colder climate. I think they hold up well and are very comfortable.
If I knew who had them or what they were I would have already found them. But I just figured I’d ask everyone what they like to wear and why. Then I’d do some research on them and decide what ones worked best for me.
I use Merrill now. I like them, just thinking maybe something with a bit more support might work better.

A guy I was squadded with last week was wearing flip flops. I was wearing danners. My son was in some variety of 5.11 boot. There were 74 guys there, and probably 80 different kinds of shoes. This is an f'ed up thread.
I do like the Solomon they are nice. Has anyone tried anything from the Millets Line they look pretty solid.
For shooting matches, if that's what you're talking about, is you've got to have loads of support and grip. If your pushing into a barricade its nice having a pair of boots that eat and grip into the ground like a vise, you have confidence in your platform you've built. Same thing when you have on knee on the ground and one knee up on your support side. A boot with loads of support will help lock you in and take out any ankle roll or wiggle you might get.
Boots seems like a small detail but when I switched from everyday Nike's to nice pair of boots I felt a lot better building positions.
Not sure what the actual name of the line of the boots I have but the brand is Merrel , I got them 3 years ago and they stopped making them but they where marked as a hardcore backpacking boot so if I was looking for another pair I'd be looking at those style.

Grinder X and/or Maximus for gym. Zodiac or Zodiac AT for running. The AT has more tread for mud/trails.

Set I have now (Addidas - probably made in Asia) are probably 4-5 years old with average of =/- 8 miles per week on them (treadmill).
Im likely damaging myself running in this old worn out shit.
Maybe if I buy the Lalo's I will luck out and mine will have been made by a Cheu Hoi VC.
If you're over thirty five, you probably are damaging something- likely knees. Treadmills are better than street or sidewalk running. Treadmills have some bounce that offsets (somewhat) the high impact of running. Asfault and concrete don't do this.
With 2 repaired knees, I bought an elliptical machine. Very low impact, but I still get the cardio of "running."

I cant elliptical, no rythm, arms going on arm thingys with feet moving.....I fuck it all up like afghanis doing jumping jacks.
Jumping rope I find to be a true ass kicker.
As other said you probably saw Solomon's. Popular in tough mudder and people who don't have much experience trail running / fast packing but are just start out .

I prefer altras. Call me a hippy but a wide toe box, neutral shoe gets me every time.. I'm in the belief we evolved without the massive heel to toe drop that most shoe company's offer now adays and it only weakens the foot and ankle structure not engaging multiple muscles and tendons we have to support a barefoot lifestyle.
I may be biased cause I'm a complete altra fanboy but for shooting/ hunting / hiking I use lonepeak highs . If I am going where ankle support isn't required for a shooting or for trail running sub 15 mile hikes it's the "lonepeaks". For 40+ miles its "olympus". If your for fast pace quick movement it's the "timp"... Most comps and daily wear are in "lonepeaks" since they offer good cushion and great grip for anything the sane person can throw at me.
Slowly convert over zero drop shoes if your not used it, you got a fuck load of muscles and tendons that aren't used to it with traditional shoes, in the end it's worth it.

Just to expand on this. The manufacturer makes no difference. You have to have a shoe/boot that fits. The toe box is the sacrifice most make to get a "brand" shoe. Some are also made with more eversion/inversion at the ankle. This depends on how you stand and walk as to which you should probably get. In single leg stance, ideally, your ankle is forced into a neutral position. this also makes you use the stabilizers of the foot and ankle better. With proper strength, barring previous strains, there is no need for ankle support. Tall boots tend to erode the stabilizer strength and allow your ankle to become weaker, putting you in danger of injuring yourself when not wearing boots. Now, this seems simple, but realize that the foot and ankle is part of a chain that extends up to and through your trunk. I could go on, but it's in depth an simple foot issues can be caused by trunk instability/tightness and hip instability/tightness that cause rotations when walking and running. Even the SI joints play a big part in it. But the bottom line is , get something that fits properly and you'll eliminate a lot of issues right off the bat.

I worked for Nike but I have a wide foot and a prominent heel...So their shoes are out. The SFB Boots fit me relatively well but nowadays my money goes to Salomons.
I mostly wear Salomons but also use Danner, White and Lowa- BECAUSE THEY FIT MY FEET!

Cool-story-bro moment- Myself and about thirty other shooters, including mostly active Mil and Leo snipers, got our asses handed to us at a match by a long-haired hippy-type wearing Birkenstocks, jeans and a pony tail.....He was shooting an old , beat to shit, Rem 700 in 22-250.
