CMP sells good mats at a reasonable price. They have good padding, I've used them on concrete floors at their indoor range with not discomfort at all.

The TAB mat is not bad for taking up the hill, it's light and compact. It's only padded in a narrow areas where your elbows would generally go though.

Midway's new mat is much bigger than the old one. Quality is very good. I use mine for F-Class and at the farm. Got it at the $50 intro price. It's too big to hump, though. AG

I don't like to lug around anything extra so with that being said I've been using an old USGI poncho for years. I can use it for a shooting mat, rain poncho or shelter. If I'm packing heavy I'll usually tie a USGI sleeping pad to the bottom of my pack. This gives my old bones a little more cushion while laying on the asphalt.

Overall quality (stitching, padding, and materials overall) seems to be pretty good, I've only had the mat for a short time now so it's not seen a lot of use. I had one of Midway's cheaper and smaller mats that held up very well over the years and the new mat seems to be at a little higher quality lever IMO. At $50 it would be hard to beat, again IMO.

I use to shoot in the AZ desert, many razor sharp rock. Any nylon pad was destroyed after a few hours of use - finally tried a cow hide, worked great until it got wet.

I moved up to Central NY in 1998. I bought several mover's blankets at the time and recycled them as shooting mats, camping blankets, whatever. I usually shoot off concrete or crushed stone. Takes a lickin', keeps on tickin', best $5 per I've spent in decades.

+3 on the Midway mat... the best thing about it are those sleeves for tucking the bipod legs into... lets you shove the rifle down and forward and tension the Harris bipod just right. My shooting has definitely improved by practicing on this mat. I have to test and see how my shooting is going on dirt without those pockets. THe matt does roll up nicely, and has a zippered pocket for holding some small stuff if that matters. Very good for $50.

I use two of those midway mats. I tied them to geather side by side and I have plenty of room. They are a little thin but still not too shaby. I have one from my days when I was shooting in High power. That thing is thick but very expensive.

i prefer a serta or something of that sort for long range shooting have tried the inflatable ones from walmart but they dont like the cactus too much.a nice pillow top may help you when your gonna be shooting out past 1000yrds.just playin

I prefer the Tempurpedic. You can jump around on it and your ammo box stays in place! No transfer of motion.......

Well last weekend my hunting buddy and I found a piece of blue tarp and threw a dog blanket on top. Worked great in a fairly heavy snow that we didn't expect that day.
But really. Have any of you guys used a thermarest sleeping pad as a mat? Reason for asking is that I have one and would rather use it, oh wait, it will pop if I use it on sharp hard places. Fark. Only on nice surfaces then.

I just purchased a midway mat a few months ago and it's been great. The one I purchased is massive so if compactness is something you need I wouldn't advice getting it. The padding is great and it has places where you can secure it to the ground with stakes. I use this strictly as a range mat and I couldn't imagine a better one. I believe it was around $50

Just going shooting I'd rather not lay around in the mud and sheep shit....but a fancy shooting mat ain't high on the list for the sake of using a shooting mat.
Foam rubber weight machine mat, 20 bucks at wally world.....works, is big enough, is water proof, stows easy enough in a roll, and is fairly comfy.

I'm a bit of a traditionalist so I still continue to use an old school military Iso Mat. Plenty of cushoin and you can roll it up and attach it to a pack. It also is aboit 10 bucks at an army navy store.

The ones we had in the Corps were 2' across, I have looked around and found some 3' wide at a local surplus store for around $15 U.S. I have the Midway mat, a Creedmoor Sports mat, and a Eagle Hybrid Sniper Rifle Case and would rather shoot off my $15 puss pad. The only problem is in a field that has been mowed you get stalks pokeing up through, but the mat holds up well to them. Im not too sure how it would fair aganst sharp rocks. This keeps me warm when shooting in the snow and cold (plenty of that in Maine) and dry in the wet hence the "puss pad".

Grand River Tactical talk to Nick he goes by hasgunwilltravel on here.
He makes some fine stuff. He made my bag that folds out to a shooting mat. He can also add most anything you want to it (I add shoulder straps to mine for long hikes).

I just picked up one of the wally world mats like Tripwire uses.
It looks fine except I'm a little concerned it might heat up pretty good on a hot day. It is very black.
Maybe I'll Krylon it a little bit and see if that helps.
They had yoga mats too but they were too narrow. This mat seems like the perfect size.

I also use the Voodoo Tactical, it is a darn good mat for the money. They are only $39 out here in CO at JAX Mercantile.
