Finally getting all my gear together for some sniper/long range steel competitions. I've seen some people in pictures with shooting sticks for supported kneeling positions and even tripods for prone shooting (http://www.precisionriflesolutions.com/apps/webstore/)

How necessary are these for competitions? Is it worth the extra buck to spend on this? I was just planning on using my harris 6-9.

Re: Shooting sticks/shooting tripod for tac comps

We just had a Precision Rilfe Match yesterday, we had 23 shooters and maybe 4-5 had a tripod and/or shooting sticks. Only one of those placed in the top 5. So it is more the knowledge you have of your rifle than the gadgets, the 2nd place shooter didn't even have a bipod.

Thanks for the info! and thats impressive using no bipod! I know the bipod would help in unsupported kneeling positions, but it might not be worth the extra bulk to carry it around. better off just practicing and not using one i guess

A little depends on you as an individual, my knees and ankles are shot to bits and results in me having a crap position kneeling and not much better sitting (thats my excuse anyway).

As a result I advocate using sticks and your pack, using these I can get extremely solid.
