Should I sell my silver coins now?

I have a fair amount of silver coins. Most are from 1964- dimes and quarters mainly, but with a few halves.
With silver prices up would it make sense for me to sell now or hold onto them in case it goes up more? It almost seems as if gold and silver prices have to fall before long.

I also have some old silver coins- quarters from the early 1900s and 1920s. I will hold onto these just because they are interesting to me. They are not really worth more than melt value anyway.

BTW, does anyone have any pointers as to where to sell the coins? I plan on calling around to a few jewelry stores to see if they know a local buyer.

Re: Should I sell my silver coins now?

i would never think of selling any of my gold or silver unless i was going to buy something equally as valuable. no sense in turning in your wealth, especially if you want to buy a depreciating asset or even just to keep it in dollars. but if you have a lot of gains in the silver, it makes sense to sell if you are going to buy something else of value at some point.

the long view is simple. the dollar is facing collapse. its already lost 95% of its value. unless some how govts stop borrowing, stop spending, pay off their debts and stop printing money.... (all highly unlikely) gold and silver are going to keep going up in price in terms of dollars over the long haul.

depending on the quantity of coins you have, you can sell larger quantities to apmex and europac precious metals. but your best bet is probably ebay. you'll probably get the most return in dollars on there.

According to Lewis, this mystery investor was able to get hold of 20 million nickels, which he keeps in a Brinks storage facility.

Selling coins is a market in collection shops. The value of each coin is taken by it's details being in certain shape. This is also dependant upon supply and demand. The other way they will take them is by a simple weight where you will be lucky to pull 50% of actual value. You are better off melting them down for werewolf bullets

There's a newer one out "www.endofamerica49.com"

While many of the points Porter Stansbery make are valid, the entire object of all of these "endofamerica" links are for you to subscribe to his site. I used to listen to Alex Jones quite frequently (not at all now), but the more I listened, the more I began to question both him and many of his guests.

I agree with Brutus, I wouldn't sell any precious metals right now. Many of the articles I've read say that gold and silver are likely to skyrocket. Had I been on top of things, I would have picked up more silver when it was $26-27 about a month or so ago.

Re: Should I sell my silver coins now?

Most investors continue to thing gold and silver will go up in value...until it doesn't. Then it will fall like a rock, then stabilize. Such is the cycle of commodities. Timing is everything. Buy low, sell high! Again the timing thing.

Selling your silver and holding cash may not be a good idea. Buying something with the cash that is less inflated than gold or silver is right now might be.

Good luck

I'm not sure how well silver works on vampires... may slow them down alittle.

Everything cycles, my aunt said to just wait patiently, it'll come back.

Also, this article is interesting. Anyone from Utah heard anything about this?

this is true of wheat pennies....the new ones are just plated with copper.

Re: Should I sell my silver coins now?

OK, I have a quart jar full of whest pennies too.
The silver coins are some saved back since about '64 when dad heard they were going to stop making the coins with silver. I have several rolls that are still in the bank's roll. I don't know if they count as uncirculated or not, but they look it.
From everything I have been able to find even my really old coins are worth more for their melt value than as collectible coins. I will not part with the old coins. A few quarters from before 1925 are too damn cool to melt.
I will hold onto the rest for a while. I don't have a need to cash in on them. I just remember silver going up and then crashing before. It stayed flat for a long time. I was just wondering if the current value is another bubble waiting to burst.
With gold near $1,500.00 per ounce I may go try to pan some.

Re: Should I sell my silver coins now?

I don't know that much abt coins but in 2006 i got 2 1oz buffalo coins from the mint. Today they are dubble what i paid for them. and silver coins are worth holding on to. I have several Morgan silver dollars worth over $200 each that i paid $25 each for at the gas station because this fellow didnt have any money for gas, scrap price at the time was near $25 so i took a chanch and it worked out. I would say keep what you have and buy more when you can. MM

Re: Should I sell my silver coins now?

I read this thread and got to thinking I NEEDED some silver too, hell everyone else is doing it right? So I went to my bank and bought $120 worth of half dollars (all they had). Well long story short I found 2 Franklins, 3 64' Kennedys (both 90%) and 14 65'-70' Kennedys (40%). Melt value of $149.70.

Pretty bad ass, doubt I can do that again.

Also all pennies to 1982 are copper, right now a penny is worth 2.9 cents, melt vale.

My point is Gold and silver are useless. And the artificial bubble is about done. Assuming it is not, and it continues to grow how long will it take for it to give a 100% return at today's prices? Now's the time to cash out.

Lead is only going to go up in price. Watch as supply dries up. And it seems it is actually in demand because it is useful. Quite unlike Gold and Silver.

Lead can be purchased under market value quite easily. Go try that with Gold and Silver. The only market for gold and silver is older paranoid doomsday worriers. They've about bought all they can, and all the free gold/silver has been mined from the public. It only has value as a doomsday treasure.

Re: Should I sell my silver coins now?

WoW ! i can not believe some of the ASSertions you make here, first you say, <span style="color: #3333FF">"Gold and silver are useless"</span>, maybe for you because you most likely have none.

<span style="color: #3333FF">"how long will it take for it to give a 100% return at today's prices?" </span> at $1440.00 an oz. about two years, if that long at the rate that Mr. Hussein is turning the USA into a third world sh!thole.

<span style="color: #3333FF">"all the free gold/silver has been mined from the public"</span> i have no idea what you mean by this statement, but the truth is, there is 10 times the undiscovered gold than there is known gold, also, all the known worlds gold would NOT fill an Olympic swimming pool !!!!!

Exactly, Gold and silver are at record highs. How long can it continue? The time to buy gold and silver was about 8-10 years ago.

Good luck

Re: Should I sell my silver coins now?

I read some interesting speculation a few days ago that silver might rise in value to around $50.00 per ounce by this fall. I will just wait and see.
I posted this just to see if any experts thought the present value might be a temporary bubble about to burst.

Lol, worthless? They both have extensive industrial uses, silver especially.
