Yep. My wife and I have positioned ourselves over the years so that we have flexible working arrangements and can cover essential expenses for some period of time if unemployed (I'd like to claim some significant overarching philosophy to this, but the fact is that I prefer living in a modest house and spending large sums of money each month on guns, bicycles, tools, and car parts - pretty much a continuation of my behavior from my post-college years as a bachelor).
Anyways, we're financially prepared to ride this thing out for a bit. Most people aren't; even if they have good jobs, they're living paycheck-to-paycheck because their meager savings can't cover for very long a $3000 mortgage payment, a couple $750 car payments, and miscellaneous other revolving credit accounts.
And honestly, for those that didn't learn a lesson in the last downtown about avoiding debt and building some modest savings - I don't know what to say, other than maybe I'd like an apology for wasting my time with all the conversations about the wonders of borrowing at 1.9% interest rates. That doesn't help me out if I'm left without a chair when the music stops, and having grown up in MI, I've seen the game play out my entire life.
With any luck, this will open some buying opportunities. I'd like to get a modest industrial building, upgrade my mil and lathe, and maybe dabble in some full-auto stuff if prices return to something "reasonable". We'll see how this plays out.

Over and through in the forward direction - that's how I intend to handle a traffic stoppage. Unless I'm caught while driving around in the Camaro - then I'll make James Garner proud with my workmanship in reverse gear.
Between now and whenever this stuff hits, I predict the wife is going to get damn sick of me practicing various defensive driving techniques, but my boys are gonna love it.

Other people terrify me driving in the snow as you can tell by them doing the speed limit when there is 6 inches of snow on the road that they have no clue 4WD only helps them go, not stop

What I would suggest is that you keep your gas tank as full as possible, because it doesn't take a pandemic to make a 100 mile drive burn up as much gas as a 300 mile drive would when everyone goes to crashing.
Also stick a case or half case of water in your car, half in the trunk, half in the passenger compartment.
Put a roll of paper towels and a trash bag in the passenger compartment.
Put in a blanket or two and a pillow if you can.
Get your self some tasty crackers / cookies / nuts etc that you like to snack on, that can survive cold & heat and keep some in the car, in both the trunk & the passenger compartment.
Keep your cell phone charged.
I've wound up needing all those things that I carry around in my car regularly, without having run into a pandemic.

Aside from the gas thing this is pretty much how I run 24/7, I surf the east coast from hurricane season straight on through till spring so I am often traveling in dicey weather (think hurricanes and nor'easters). I travel with the mindset that if it came to it I could live in my car for a few days and be moderately comfortable but regardless survive. Driving a Jeep Wrangler goes along way in this department
So just to be clear, you're planning on staying at home for 30-60 days and not shitting?
For the average household that has maybe 5-7 days of supplies on hand, hoarding is a very rational response for what is yet to come.
I can shit in the woods and wipe with whatever I find, done it before can do it again

Thing with this Covid19 is that most of population will get infected sooner or later there is realy no question about it, the measures countries take are meant just to stem the infection rates to what can be handled by healthcare system (10-15% of infected that need medical help) without crashing it . The outbreak also just hapens to be the catalyst for the house of cards that is stock market to go up in flames , but it was going to go up in flames sooner than later anyway. Bad policy also by this admin means that hits will be much harder that they would need to be.
My wife and I are not worried at all. Mostly just pissed and amazed at the idiocy of my fellow Americans. Easily frightened and panicked sheep. I've never gotten the flu and only had your common cold a few times in my life (approaching 50 years old). We both work at home, live in a very rural area, don't go into town but a few times a month. Have no kids either. We both have an immune system that seems to do its job, because we let it. Yours might too if you didn't inject a dozen vaccines into your body and try to "disinfect" every object in sight. And if they do decide to order everyone locked up in their homes, well, good luck with that. This aint Italy. I've got thousands and thousands of acres of wilderness and mountainous terrain as I step out my back door. Who is gonna enforce that? The local PD? I see them once or twice a month in my area. The national guard? Their ain't enough of them.
Couldn't agree more, its advice I think anyone who travels outside of walking distance from their home should follow regardless of what is going on in the world.
Unbelievable, Walmart sold out of TP, and just a couple cases of regular paper towels and a few bottles of bleach remaining. However, lots of tissue (nose blow type) on the other shelves. They're stocking shelves and selves of Hydrogen Peroxide. Glad I still have my partial gallon of bleach at the house, it'll last me another 10-years. Supermarket is also out of TP.
And what makes it funny is everyone buying TP ......but no soap. So I guess all these nasty fuckers got plenty of wipe but don't plan on taking a dam bath ! If I got plenty of soap and no tp at least I can wash my ass!
I have no idea what the rush on TP is all about...but...hey I bought a couple cases in case the idiots cause a shortage.

Look up the US death toll for the Asian as well as the Hong Kong flu epidemics. We learned from the first to the next. Those were level 2 pandemics that were allowed to run their courses. This one is a notch up from those but there is major efforts to minimize spread.

Normally, I wouldn't be worried one bit about cvirus but I managed to develp a nasty chest/head cold that's been going on for close to 6 weeks now. In my neck of the woods, it's not uncommon. Wife picked it up too. Immunity may be depleted - that's what I'm worried about.

Realized we were down to 2 rolls of TP today. Three stores later I found some at home deput. Thankfully people in the city wouldn't know what a hammer was if it fell and hit them on the head so they didn't think to look there.
You might want to change that to a roll for an eagle. Why give away the other rolls in a case? Lol
