This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. But imagine if he was selling it to buy back a rifle that he already owned and sold once before...

someone has some inside information, yes there is a aiae mkii 2.0 headed my way next week.

Funny part is as bad as the gun market is seems like mine always sell. the 6xc is sold already, kinda glad no one in the nw bought it so i don't get beat by a rifle i previously owned.

Next week i will be selling an absolutely stunning surgeon action/carbon fiber 308 barrel/adj. mcmillan a5 so be ready for it!!

Re: SHWW Group

Dunno if there were any good pics of the target, but they had a 'spinner' with an approx 6" disc and another one 8-10" on either end of ~3' long arm with a bushing on a shaft in the middle. Had to hit it repeatedly until it flipped all the way over. Took a combination of timing and accuracy to get it done - though a big magnum probably would have helped a lot

Not sure... did anyone get it over in less than three shots? Took me 6, but I was tickled $hitless just to get it done

Re: SHWW Group

Well, I'm not home yet! I stopped by Safeway on the way out for some Asian food (spicy general tsoa chicken) and it started to ruin my innards! Dropped off I-82 when I saw a wal-mart. It was relieving to see the restroom sign to say the least.

I don't swear much or have any foul language come out of me but when I saw a five person line in front of the men's bathroom I literally said to myself "you absolutely got to be sh*tting me". LOL so here I am waiting in line.

To be honest I don't feel to out of place because I have my slippers on, camo pants, and got hot in the car so I'm down to my blaze orange skin tight under armor!!! Shut, feels like my second home here at walley world!!! HAHA

It's my turn now! I'm going to double up on the toilet seat cover today....if there is any left....have a blessed night guys and thanks for the great shoot today, I had a blast.

Re: SHWW Group

I had a great time shooting with y'all today. Jim and Jesse, thanks for putting on a great match. This was my first time shooting at one of these, and I learned alot. Mostly I confirmed that I have a bunch of tuning up to do prior to Findlay 2012...

Re: SHWW Group

Well that was fun, 28 shooters when I was expecting~18..
Thanks to all that showed up. Sorry about all the standing around time. We'll have a 3rd squad next month and that will speed it up and get the round count up a little as well.
I would like feed back on this match, what did you like, what do you think would make it more fun/ challanging.
Post up here or PM me with your ideas, complements, suggestions.

Waiting for the morning fog to lift. Targets were left of the numbers barely visible on the hill behind the shooters milling around, about 500 yards.

Several targets are on the berm above the numbers; the KYL and spinner are just to the right of the third white square (number block) from the left. About 300 yards.
Also captured: Bad Eewok! Bad!

Thanks to JtP for all the work, and to Jesse and Kate for all the work and the scoring! I had a good time, shooting Jesse's rifle and ammo, though I sucked.

Re: SHWW Group

I definitely want a rematch with that KYL!

JTP, 15 seconds was crazy fast for the cold bore shot but it was good and challenging. I think about 70-80% of the shooters actually got a round off. Wish I could have that one back at all as I had another few seconds to settle. Would've been better to have a mag in or the gun loaded with the bolt back. But I guess we don't shoot these things because they're easy!

Only things I could really see going better is to have a little better comunication between how many shooters are going to be there and how many people we need to help RO and score. The stage with the platform was pretty crazy and a ton of fun. I like the 'running n gunning' type of stages and think those help push shooters to make them better shooting in uncomfortable situations.

I know it'll just be easier once I get a detachable mag bottom metal! I had enough time to have a conversation with Jesse while trying to reload on the platform!

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks everyone for coming out and you should all give thanks to JtP for coming up with the match as I wasn't around to handle any part of the COF. Next month we'll be back on the normal schedule of the 1st Sunday of the month (Mar 4th).

There was certainly some confusion about how many folks were going to be there, but that's always the case when you have a "show up and shoot" type event like this. Plain and simply, we don't have enough dedicated RO's to fully staff a monthly match which is why it's so important for everyone attending to do their part to help spot and score. I anticipate having a fair number more shooters next month as it's only a few weeks before the Findlay Cup, so we'll do our best to find ways to speed things up and get the finish time back around 3-4pm.

Re: SHWW Group

A couple of tips form this RO.
Bring enough bi-pod hight. These are field matches, not bench matches.
When setting up for a shot such as the cold bore, set your bi-pod high as it is a lot easier to raise the back of the rifle than it is to move the earth out from under it.
Set your optics about mid way through the power and parallax, this will give you the best compromised set up for speed.
Don't waste so much time loading the rifle. Have a plan ahead of time. The 15 seconds is about twice as long as a coyote will give you to get a shot off.
Practice with a dummy round and get your round into the chamber and bolt down in under 5 seconds, 3 would be better.
A couple of the guys that got hits had 5-7 seconds left over.

Re: SHWW Group

Couple other observations......from a lowly RO

1) If you only have a set number of shots at targets, like two at each then move....don't wait to see if you hit your 2nd shot before moving on. You don't get any more shots so might as well use that extra time to get good shots off at the next target.

2) 15 seconds is a ton of time. Don't waste time fiddling with your mag if you're only shooting 1 round. Throw that thing in the chamber while you're getting situated...you have two hands (paws for some) for a reason.

3) MAKE SURE YOUR MAGS WORK.

4) Make sure you can get your mag in the gun efficiently. Lots of people wasted lots of time fumbling with mags yesterday. Like JtP said, have a plan ahead of time for when you need to load and how you're going to do it. That includes knowing where on your person your extra mags are located:)

That's all for now. JtP is spot on above and knows a thing or two about this game, would be wise to take his advice.

Re: SHWW Group

15 seconds was alot of time on that stage. Especially when we were able to start with an empty mag in the gun. Throw one on the mag and run the bolt in. Get your rifle somewhat lined up on target, turn your power down, and get ready.

I did see alot of mag failures. More than I have ever seen at a match I think. Like JTP said, create a plan before you even get to the line on what you are going to do. And more importantly, have some flexibility to adapt to a new plan if the first one goes sideways. Make sure your gear works as you want it to.

Re: SHWW Group

15 seconds was fast but very doable, sometimes people made it look easy, others by the time they got behind the scope they were within a second or two of the time limit. I was just indicating that it definitely made people realize they can't dibble dabble around and they need to be efficient (myself included). I'm fairly certain I had a for more seconds to spare but atleast according to Jim I had "An Impressive Miss!"

Definitely looking forward to the next match!! Thanks again to Jim, Jesse, and others to put this on! I'll be there to help out when I can on the next ones...

Re: SHWW Group

Oh yea, on the mag thing. If your mag is not working after the first stage, it sure as hell isn't going to fix itself.
Watching a shooter fumble with the same mag that gave them trouble for the whole match .... Ditch the mag and single load or find a mag that works.
This is stuff that MUST be ironed out DAYS before the match.
Have spare mags. Know your gear, what it can/ cannot do.
Wear boots. This is an outdoor sport and we shoot rain, shine, snow what ever.

Re: SHWW Group

Did TSI show up in pink flip flops again?

It sounds like I missed out on a ton of fun. I'm really hoping to make the next one! Jim, as the interest grows, is there a chance you will have to place a limit on the number of entrants?

Anyways, thanks for the pics- I can live vicariously thru my friends that made the shoot.

Something about the big spoon and little spoon, and line of sight.</div></div>

Hey now we can't let this get out in the open you know, don't want my wife to find out. since my shooting was so poor i had to entertain myself somehow and what better to do than mess with the little spoon!!

Gotta be careful though if jim gets a hold of your leg he might go to town on it like a horny jack russel terrier. It might just be best to let him finish because i think it might calm him down a little. Poor guy might explode if he doesn't find a new website soon!

Re: SHWW Group

I have a Remington 700 with a Pac-Nor 30" heavy barrel chambered in 338 ultra mag and a form 1 silencer. I am still working on getting a better scope but for now it has a 20x Super Sniper Scope on a 20 moa mount. It groups a little over an inch at 200 yards. Never shot it past 200 yards yet.

Re: SHWW Group

Wow... sounds like the other squad may have given JtP more $hit than we did. Not sure how he survived...
wink.gif

Yeah, the mag thing was kind of a bummer. Hadn't had any recent problems with mine, and thought I had a handle on its quirks. Turned out it failed fairly specatularly on the second to last stage of the day in a completely different manner, so I set it free. Unfortunately someone brought it back...

The 'solution' should be here in about a week.

Re: SHWW Group

Great match, cool COF. A bit too much standing around, but as was mentioned above, that's the nature of the beast when it's a show-up-'n-shoot arangment, and in the end I'd rather have too many than too few. Great job to all the ROs hearding the butterflys.

On the feedback front; I'd like to see a stage where the RO or someone else calls the target to be engaged and the shooter has 10 or fifteen seconds to make the shot, at which point another is called, etc. Could be cool. Maybe a string of five or six at various ranges/azimuths. How about an UKD stage? Everybody that I saw had a ranging reticle of some sort.

I really need to practice my unsupported positions! I thought I had a pretty good foundation but the added stress of time limits and moving from position to position really allowed my bad habits to return. I sucked on the non-prone firing positions!!!!

Thanks again to Jim, Jesse and the other staff that made this happen.

Re: SHWW Group

One thing I would ask if we do an UKD stage is to give us width and height of target. I've heard of poorly setup stages where the steel was setup leaning towards or away from the shooter making it appear smaller and throwing the subtensions off a bit... Never tried it myself so I think it'd be a fun stage!

Re: SHWW Group

Thank you Jim, Jesse and everyone that helped make this match happen. I definitely took away some things to work on, and some changes to my current practice. If I had to stand around in the snow waiting to shoot, this is the group to be with!

Re: SHWW Group

Thanks again to Jim and Jesse for going to all the trouble on this - it was a lot of fun and a great opportunity for us folks that don't get a lot of trigger-time doing off-hand, weak-side, barrier,...etc. I look forward to the next one.

I do have a couple of suggestions for the RO's,... if you don't mind. The first is in regard to the stopwatch. I think the time allowed for each stage was adequate, but as a shooter I never had a sense of how much time was left. I'd simply ask that someone (the RO or a fellow shooter in the group enlisted to run the stopwatch) call out the time remaining every 30-sec until the last 30-sec, then call 15-sec, and finally 5-sec, CEASE FIRE! On some of the longer stages (1-min +) it's really difficult to judge what time is left. I doubt it would have helped many finish a stage, but it would have more than likely allowed a shooter to get off one more shot before the clock ran out,... just a thought.

Also, whomever is spotting i.e. calling "hit" and "miss", could try to differenciate the two words by pronouncing them distinctly/differently as it was hard as a shooter (ears ringing from the last shot, not to mention ear-plugs in your ears) to know if it was a hit or a miss as they were pronounced identically,... just a thought.

Again, thanks for the shoot, it was great fun!

Well thankfully out of all of us, you have the longest legs...
