Hey guys,

I'm looking at the possibility of getting a P226 in 9mm. I'm more interested in your opinions/experiences with the models that have this trigger in it. Better? Worse?

SRT is the only way to go. Follow up shots are easy peasy on that trigger. I have the 220 and 226 with the SRT. Ask Sig about their Certified Pre Own pistols too.

+1 on the SRT! It is truly excellent! The biggest advantage of the SRT, IMHO, is that it makes rapid fire, quick follow-up shots, and/or controlled pairs VERY fast and crisp. The traditional Sig DA/SA trigger leaves a fair bit of slop in terms of take-up after the trigger resets which can be a royal PITA when you want accurate, fast fire. The SRT eleminates nearly all of that take-up after reset yeliding a crisp, clean (AND FAST) SA trigger without the slop.

SRT rocks. I currently have a P229 9x19, a P229 equinox .40, and a P226 elite .40. The elite is the only one I own that has the SRT and I love that thing. The reset makes multiple/follow-up shots smoother and quicker. Since I've had the elite, I've been thinking about putting the SRT in my other sigs as well (I think its around $100 to send them into sig).

Depends on what you compare "short reset" to. I'm mostly a 1911 shooter and the SRT was still way too much reset for my liking, maybe better compared to a non-SRT Sig.

If you find yourself with a Sig standard trigger, send it to Gray Guns in Oregon. I have a 226 Blackwater that has been to his shop, and it is SWEET!

i have a 228 that i installed a SRT in. it makes shooting failure drills so much faster. it is one of the best improvements you can make without sending it to a 'smith.

I don't own a Sig <span style="font-style: italic">without</span> the SRT, but I do own a P226 E-squared in .40 that is equipped with it. I can only speak from my limited experience over the past year or so of shooting this pistol and handling other people's pistols, but it is the best non-custom single-action pull I've felt. Take this with a grain, as I've not measured it, but it feels like it's about 3.5lbs and has a positive reset that's hard to miss.

Just bought a standard (non-pro) M&P40 and am having to do a lot of dry-fire to get used to that nasty gritty factory trigger. Based on that, and also on a few minutes worth of dry-fire with my roommate's factory standard Glock 23, I've been spoiled by the SRT.

Love at 1st pull. Been shooting Sigs since ~'94, and won't buy another new one without SRT. Not to be confused with the "short trigger", which is a slimmer profiled trigger that decreases reach.

i installed a SRT in my P228 and also replaced the hammer spring with a lighter model. the trigger pull is light in DA and reset is short in SA.

I ended up ordering a P226 Enhanced Elite which comes with the SRT. Should arrive at my FFL tomorrow, it's currently in the air from Kentucky to Vermont

If you find that the P226 SRT kit is hard to come by, the P220 SRT kit, easier to find, uses the same sear and safety lever. The only difference is the P220 kit also includes a replacement decocking lever which you can drop in your spare parts bin.

Midway has the P220 kit available for $50. P226 kit, out of stock.

I have a SRT in my 220 and it is very nice, I have a X-5 that I sent to Gray Guns and the reset on that is close to a 1911. An action job at Gray Guns start at $250 so it is a matter of how much you want to spend. My X-5 has me spoiled though.

I honestly didn't care for the SRT. It may not be the fault of the SRT itself, but I felt that I had way too much travel before the trigger would break. I never had this issue on my old W German 226 and 220 with standard triggers. I had purchased newer production 226's (all with the SRT), and all had inferior triggers.

I will note that I have abnormally large hands and long fingers

Today I purchased a 220 combat, a gun I have always liked, after seeing this thread I guess I need to send in my gun to either Gray Guns or back to Sig for some trigger work. While my gun is out is their anything else I should have done? Are the factory NS good enough? Get an extended mag release, polish the feed ramp, etc?

It really is an amazing trigger. I was stuck on a HK LEM trigger for the longest time... then I tried the SRT and have not looked back. The initial pick up is long, however the reset and follow up reminds me of a FN 5.7, that being almost able to autofire. I feel you will really enjoy it!

I have several sigs, including german and standard trigger ones.
The srt trigger is the easiest to shoot follow up shots with and is lighter than the std triggers of either with less travel

I also like the DAK, just dont want to confuse myself since I know the traditional DA

Sorry to bring up the past but I just installed a SRT that I got from Midway in my 229 .40, to be honest, it took all of about 5 minutes to do...ridiculously easy. All you need is a punch and a small screwdriver, I used a small allen wrench instead of a punch, works the same.

The srt on my 220 carry elite was better than the trigger on my 220 supermatch! Srt is the way to go.

Guys, Just an FYI, I just came back from the LE dealer and put two SRT trigger kits on order (2269-SRT-PKIT)- $35ea + S&H from SIG. He quoted me around 90 days for them to show up. I'm assuming since he's able to order them that they will ship to LE dealers. Those of you wanting to swap yours over might consider that. Figure the $35 would cover shipping for the pistol, so you're saving $100!

I'd send it to Bruce Gray, and get the "Reduced Reset Comprehensive Duty Package" - which does all the good things of their excellent trigger work, combined with their own reduced reset design.

I had my stainless Elite P-220 out to them, while it was there, they called and suggested adding an internal trigger stop. of course, I said. I also had them put on a Dawson Precision rear site, and kept the sig night sight front.

You can call them, actually talk with Bruce, and work out exactly what to do. He'll still talk with customers, even though he is full-time smithing, and part time prepping for Bianchi Cup this year. He showed his X-5 with BarSto barrel prepped for the cup over on SigForum - 1.1" 5 shot group at 50 yards (supported).

all of my Sigs have the SRT, best money spent on them and very easy to install. Thousands of rounds and no problems

As the OP I guess I should update....


I ended up getting the P226 Enhanced Elite back in September. It shoots great and I love the trigger. The E2 models come with the SRT as standard. I wish it wasn't $800 with the discounts, but you get what you pay for so I'm ok with spending more money on a quality firearm. I've only put about 200 rounds through it because I shoot my Glocks more because I carry a Glock 32. Love the Sig though

Last night I was finally able to shoot my 220combat. It is very nice, but I would like a trigger job and what not like my XD45 had that was sent to Springer Precision. I emailed Gray Guns and will be waiting to hear back from them. Realistically I will probably send the gun out in April after I pay some stuff.

Aren't all 1911's short reset?

The SIG short reset system I was familiar with was their recent improvement to the 220 series guns.

Just got my two trigger conversions- if you are familiar with how to fully disassemble your Sig, installing one is no problem at all.

It makes a HUGE difference!!! I cannot tell you enough how vast the reset difference is. Otherwise it feels pretty much the same. I've only installed one so-far, I'll get to the other one later.

I ended up only paying $35 for both. I'm pretty sure it should have been $35 each, but I didn't say anything since two years ago they screwed me on an FFL transfer fee I was quoted at $25 when I had the gun sent to them, upon picking it up they made me pay $50. What comes around goes around...

Took me a little over a month to get them in. I'm happy.

Sig's SRT is the closest you can get to a sort of 1911 type feel reset of trigger, at least how it feels to me. Its very nice, and I loved it, my last sig was a 220R Dark Elite that had an SRT. I got an HK45c instead of it, not sold that it was a great idea still.

I like them, and would own it again. I will say that if I do purchase another sig, I would do my best to get an SRT after owning one.
