Silencer Shop News Update: ATF eForms Launch Imminent!

Still a little confusing, but I think I got it. Bought a can Dec 20 at a LGS with a Kiosk. Filled out the form and did pic/fingerprints in the Kiosk. SilencerShop sent me the docusign, which I reviewed/signed. Got an email two days later to buy the stamp. Done.

Today I find I need an ATF account so I open one.

Question(s) is, what’s the next step as I bought this at the LGS but SilencerShop did the paperwork? I wait because I just opened the ATF account and SilencerShop would not have been able to send it to the LGS OR the LGS will get the form completed on the LGS ATF account and when they get the form they call me and I validate with my account pin?

I have no idea how to track this or where I should be looking.

You shouldn't have to do another background check. You fill out a 4473 to have a record of you taking possession from the ffl. There's even a box on the the back of page 1 at the bottom that a NICS background check is not needed because of a nfa check.... unless it's a company or local policy that's a waste of time.
many dealers up here run a 4473 i have been delayed even which is stupid

So the “Powered by” silencer shop doesn’t work anymore? Previously SS did all this and I didn’t have to go to my dealer until the stamp arrived.
It still works. If you choose paper form 4 it’s like it always was. If you choose eform, you’ll have to go to your dealer to certify the eform 4 once they contact you.

I'll be calling my dealer tomorrow to see how to proceed. Better to be proactive rather than just waiting, imho.

I just got back from the LGS w/kiosk. They had no idea what I was talking about with me signing off with my ATF e file log in and PIN number. They look up the account through SilencerShop and it looks like everything is done so they assume they’re out of it until I get the stamp.

I’m not sure who’s right. This has me thinking I may need to work with SS and apparently they are the ones e filing? Edit: not according to SS website.

If that’s the case, I really don’t understand the need for me to have a log in/pin# unless I get something else after the ATF gets my tax money from SS?

I’m sure this is clear as can be to most here but I find this process confusing as fuck when you buy the can locally, work with another company to do the paperwork and tax stamp. I’m not even sure who to check with to see if it filed.

It seems it would be a lot simpler if I had filled out the damn forms on my account and paid through my account?

What am I missing? Edit: if I am correct, the LGS doesn’t realize they will be contacting anyone who buys a can through them to certify the form 4.

That’s exactly what my dealer said also. So I’ll paper form it if they can’t figure it out by next Friday.

I suspect I'll receive the same answer when I call my dealer tomorrow. I can't believe the bullshit we have to deal with when we ought to be able to buy a can just like a firearm.

typical government bullshit rollout.

This could be lack of training at the local level as well. My impression is the local shops who use the Kiosk basically just resell Silencer Shop cans and they don’t have any training on the new process yet. (I guess understandable but the guys I worked with today said they got word from SS that they’re process didn’t change at the local level)

It’s very likely my can is the first new style e file that they’ll deal with so I suspect it to be rocky. I’ll contact SS tomorrow and hopefully get some clarity.

Here is another question for the experts.

All of my previous Form 1s can be pulled up online and I can print out the stamp/approval document.

If Silencer Shop or anyone does a Form 4 for me using this system will it still show up like my previous Form 1s do (on the ATF website/eForm login)?

thats part of roll out .. education. Work at Microsoft, when we introduce a new tool we assume we need to train everyone. The issue here is the need of the transferee eform account. The atf video doesnt cover it, SilencerShop video is hideous (worse than the ATF video).

The ATF video above makes it sound like the dealer does all the entry in their eforms account all i have to provide is digital copies of FP, pic and trust and my CC. WTF do i need an eforms account ?? Then you through in SilencerShop video and its confusing as shit.

it seems to me the only real use of the SilencerShop kiosk is to get the electronic FP cards and your pic, put them on a thumb drive and take them with you to the dealer .. i dont buy shit from SilencerShop (did years ago but they messed up so much crap i bailed on them).

Ok at the very end of the video it now explains why i as transferee need an account. Man they made this shit harder than it needs to be

Everyone is. Your best bet is to call or email them now and just get it over with. They're pretty quick to respond to most of us.

I'm also not that confident that the LGS will be able to make a smooth transition. They haven't impressed me with their knowledge yet. I'll give them until the end of the week, but I've got 3 cans in process that should be efiled and 1 that was on paper so sooner is probably better. I'm sure I'll be doing the educating as far as the new process goes.

That’s a lot of guys to train. These stores probably sell a dozen or two dozen cans a year. Training 20+ employees per store. It’s gonna take some time.

Man they made this shit harder than it needs to be

Man that’s the truth.

My point is even the silencershop video is lacking, train the trainers … it scales

Silencer Shop isn't submitting form 4s, your dealer is. I'm not sure you will see the approved form 4 in your forms. I know I can't see approved forms for transfer to us in eforms.

No. Just talked to mine and they aren’t sure of the process yet. I’m going to stop in next week if we haven’t heard anything and we will call SilencerShop together.

Good luck getting through unless they have some form of direct line. I tired for 2 hours to chat with them and the first time I got to 0 and they said “we’re busy, try calling” the second time the system crashed when I was trying to type in my question. Not implying it’s anyone’s fault here, I’m sure call / chat volume has been insane.

Yeah, every time I try to do the "chat" option it says I'm like number 25 in line, LOL.

I was # 57 the first time I got dumped at 0 and started at 67 when I got “Alex” but the program was clearly overloaded as it took 3-5 seconds for each letter to come up before it finally locked and then went to a white screen.

They must be totally slammed as the last couple times I used them I was immediately helped by phone. This seems uncharacteristic for them to me.

Has anyone been contacted by their dealer yet? I’m trying to be patient
I called my dealer today as well, and they said they've heard nothing at all. I'm also trying to be patient, but I also really want to get this ball rolling. And now I've lost over a month due to them holding it to E-File.

Got an email this morning, as I'm sure plenty of others have also received. It looked like this:

Dear eForms Users,

At this time, we find it necessary to make everyone aware of some problems many of you are experiencing with ATF’s shift of all licensing applications to cloud services to include the eForms application. We are working on all reported issues around the clock to ensure they are fixed as quickly as possible. The failing infrastructure of the original legacy eForms system required us to move to this new environment as expeditiously as possible. We are sorry that you have been experiencing problems as a result. There will be continuous fine tuning to ensure all applications are working in sync.

Unfortunately, anomalies still exist with registration, login, and other areas in the application, and we are triaging those issues in real time. The development team is actively working to improve your ability to access your accounts and to perform all functions in eForms quickly and reliably. Despite internal and industry testing these anomalies have still surfaced after launch. You should be seeing significant improvements in the coming hours and days. Once basic performance is stabilized beyond an acceptable level, we have several planned tasks to add and improve features over the coming months.

We apologize for any current problems that you are experiencing and are taking them very seriously. This new eForms is built to evolve rapidly and continuously. ATF has the support team in place to keep pushing improvements until eForms smoothly delivers the services needed by all users.

The Kiosk is only used to take fingerprints. Silencer Shop will package the data (prints, photo, trust, etc.) and provide that to the local dealer. The dealer will then create the eform 4 with that data. Once that is done, the customer will go to the dealer to "sign" the eform. As to when Silencer Shop will get that data to the dealers is unknown at this time.

Called my dealer this AM and they actually knew about the validation process. However, they told me they have not been able to proceed further on any applications due to the issues with the new ATF system. They said they would call me when they needed me to come in.

Eforms is pretty much unusable during business hours. We've been having good luck between 9pm and 8am eastern.

No surprise here. Is Silencer Shop batch submitting 10k form 4s and hour and crashing the system like last time?
Dosnt sound like silencershop submits shit, it’s the local that submits per above. Considering every one of these shops has similar business hours, I’m guessing the backup is causing the problems. Still no call from my shop and Iv been sitting on one since before eform went live. I’ll wait another couple weeks and throw in the towel to paper

Not this time, ATF has told Silencer Shop they cannot submit eforms on behalf of others.

Good deal, but SH should really get with the it’s dealers and get them on board with how this works. The three guys I have spoken to all think once they’re done with the Kiosk they’re out of it until the stamp comes in. So not only are they not trained, they are not even trying to create the form 4. The place I use says they don’t even have an e-file, everything goes through SS.

I’m sure this will be better in the long run but it’s a clusterfuck right now.

Absolutely a clusterfuck. My dealer said he’s awaiting further instructions on what to do at this point.

Did you purchase through Silencer Shop?
I spoke with silencer shop today. They are not processing from 4’s. They are sitting on them until the ATF tells them their system is stable. They are afraid they will crash the system with their volume of apps. I told them that’s bullshit. Crash the fuckin system.

Awesome. If it goes anything like the cloud upgrade we did at work, also .gov, we should be submitting form 4's by e-file in July or August. 🤣

No, I did it through my LGS. My pin and user name were necessary to complete the application.

Did you have to log in to your account separately to certify, sign, or whatever the form or did the dealer just put your username and PIN in like shown in the video HansonBrothers posted at the top of the page??
