After the "near death" beating of Rich Franklin any opponent facing Anderson Silva had already lost the fight. It was the same scenario with Mike Tyson. Fear causes mental and physical breakdown and if an opponent can't get past that before and during the fight it is no contest. Sonnen had that mindset, unfortunately Silva's instincts and experience overcame Sonnens courage. I would love to see the warrior who beats Silva......it will be a hell of a fight, and I hope it's tonight.
Weidman has the tools to beat him, I'm hoping he beats Silva but... Anderson will be prepared to defend his belt and more importantly his legacy. People think Anderson doesn't have good takedown defense but he will for this fight. Weidman can't lose faith if he can't get him down right away and has to be crazy smart if he has to stand with Silva for part of the fight.
Chris's mountain is getting over the aura of Anderson. Silva's ace in the hole is fighting has clicked for him, he can function normally in the high stress situations of combat.

Although a great fighter, the punk got what he deserved. You disrespect the game and it will always get you.
Anderson proved he wanted none of the ground game and tried to bait Chris into a stand up war that back fired big time! Everybody has tried to pot shot Silva when he drops his hands... Chris threw a combo and blasted that fool! Awesome destruction of the cocky prick!

I wanted Silva to lose from the initial glove touch. What a prick. The the baiting and taunting he did, Im glad Chris stayed focuses in the second. Stupid Silva lost because he was too busy dancing like a fool and let his guard down. I was so glad he went down.
Personally I am ecstatic that he got k.o.'d right in the middle of one of his cocky and stupid taunts. It couldn't have been more perfect timing. I have a feeling this loss will do a lot of harm for him besides just losing the title. Essentially I feel as if he will become the laughing stock of UFC because he literally lost his title due to a failed attempt at a taunt.
I am more then thrilled to see Silva get his lights turned out in the middle of his clowning. He is WAY to cocky for the MMA game. Someone somewhere is always ready to put a beating on you, they just need to be given the chance. Weidman took his chance and ran with it.

Who's next for Silva? Sounds like he wants nothing to do with a rematch. Jon Jones, or maybe Roy Jones jr? I think Dana will press for him to do a rematch at some point in one of the remaining fights on his contract. Too much money not to.
I thought it was fixed at first, but seeing the replays, it was a nice shot. anyone that get's a clean shot on him like that will go down.

I think we can agree that Showboating is somewhat OK as long as you win. However, if you get knocked out show boating that there is some funny shit!!!! ahhaahahah
Anyone that gets a clean shot on them like that will go down. That there was a solid hit, and very few times it is possible to get a clean off a shot like that on anyone. Only time it happens really is when the other guy is really tired and can't defend himself anymore, and instead of going in defensive mode, the tired boxer still tries to "box", then he is not able to get his guard up... then BOOOOOM!
When you get a solid hit on you like that, the person getting the hit just gets as much credit. Silva had his guard down, and you can tell he is either not trained in the Art of Boxing, or not that quick. Muhammad Ali was the biggest showboat of all time, even in his old age, no one could ever land a shot like that on Ali.
Win or Lose, I love the show boaters! It take an extra special person to show boat.

Truth and Amen! If I want to watch boring men fight, I can go to the local MMF workout gym and watch some guys spar with each other. If I want to watch an exciting show (as well as a good fight at the top levels), I tune into pay per view.
I did and do think Silva intentionally left his fight in the locker room. Like him or hate him, that was not the Anderson Silva everyone has grown accustomed to seeing. Absolutely no head movement, nothing really thrown other than jabs, really nothing less than a piss poor effort. I personally think he got so fed up with being the champion, and all of the stigma and expectations that came with it (not to mention Dana White's constant moaning and groaning for a super fight against people he had no desire to fight), he said screw it. What other champion that has lost has been that quick to say no thanks to a rematch, especially against a (still) relatively unknown fighter? In the post fight conference he said again he wanted no rematch and just wanted to fight other people, nothing involved other than a winner and a loser.
All of that aside, congrats to Weidman. "The king is dead, long live the king". For now.
I quit paying for the PPV fights because of shit like this. MMA is NOT about showboating. Yes, it is exciting and such and a little is OK but to see a champion go out like this is just a waste. So many of the "Superfights" have just turned out so lame in the last couple of years. It makes me sad because I love MMA and love to see 2 warriors get in there and pound it out. Anderson left his heart at home that night. Good for Weidman. Now lets see what he can do to hold that title.
After seeing it, I don't see why Chris didn't/couldn't finish with that ankle lock. Looked real good for a minute. Must of been slippery. The KO was better to see on a finish though! I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing his title defenses and what Silva might do next. Time will tell.

I agree man. I think he went in with weak training, weak heart, and a weak head. When he first got knocked out I was thinking "fixed! he wants to get a rematch where he will get a bigger payout" However, looking back at that hit, that was no fix, he seriously got a good one landed to him.
Great Champions do lose not lose unexpectedly that often to a so so fighter, only one I can think of is Tyson (Buster Douglas). Maybe Weidman is much better than I thought he was, or maybe Silva is just getting old, he is almost 40 now.
Simply put, Silva's outstanding skills skills were finally surpassed by his stunning ego. Weidman was at the right place at the right time with the right weapons. There was only one outcome from this development.
The only way it could have been better is if Chris choked him out! I bet on this fight with a loud mouth shit talker at work, and now he has made every excuse for his hero's embarrassing loss. I am going to have a buddy take a pic of him handing over my cash. EPIC! J
I disagree. IF you are going to give up on a fight you don't risk a head shot and potentially crippling yourself. Weidman had him in a submission early in the first, if Silva wanted to throw the fight and give up the belt he could have tapped. You are saying he dropped his hands and let himself get knocked out resulting in a concussion? That is beyond absurd. As a fighter you don't take that kind of risk in bodily harm. Had Silva decided he was tired of being the champion..... turn the belt in. Tap when he had the ankle lock set, the crowd doesn't know if he is hurting or not. He took home $600,000 for a loss regardless. Pretty damn good rate for 15 minutes of "work".
15 minutes of work? More like 3 months of balls out training, dieting and slowly cutting down from 215lbs to 185lbs.
I was just listening to the Joe Rogan experience and he said they are already putting together a rematch for the New Year's Eve show. Should be good if they can talk Anderson into it.
I don't think an active fighter weight fluctuates that much. Maybe 15 lbs, but 30 lbs? Most of these guys train hard even when they are not fighting, though they do relax on the diet regiment a little when they do not have a planned fight coming up.
For me, I can lose weight easy. I have trained myself not to crave food, and to eat only certain types of food when I am trying to drop the pounds. However, I have found training and trying to lose weight to be very difficult! Even when I was 10 years younger, it was extremely difficult to train hard (for mtn bike races) while trying to drop 10 lbs. I seriously don't know how these guys do it.

It's also well documented from Anderson's video he did "Like Water" that he is an active trainer and martial arts practitioner. He never really stop training. If he is cutting 30+ pounds before each fight he is doing it gradually. His cardio is impressive in the ring.
Hate him or love him Anderson is a smart guy. He knows he can take his next 10 contract fights and pull in a ton of money. Then retire on top and with his health in tact. He doesn't have to fight for the belt anymore, he has made his fortune. Nike backs him with sponsorship, he is the first MMA fighter to be endorsed by a major athletic brand.
Yes I agree with this statement. He is a professional so when he starts his camp he begins a slow descend in weight. GSP keeps claiming that Silva walks around at around 230lbs, and George uses this as a reason to not want to fight him. 30 lb weight is very common. Gsp actually gets up to 190-193 lbs in between camps. Like water is a great documentary and Anderson was/is a great champ and I believe if the rematch happens silva will embarrass Weidman..just my opinion.

IMO there's a greater chance of there being a Silva vs. Jones fight now that Silva's lost his title and has nothing to lose. And how about this scenario.......Silva beats Jones then Silva beats Weidman to get his title back. I'm a fan of Silva until recently, especially not touching gloves with Weidman and left him hanging like he did. I'm sure Weidman really enjoyed knocking him out that much more because of the gloves. As for showboating......fighters like Silva, Ali, Roy Jones Jr. relied on these tactics to fight. It's a natural instinct for these fighters to use these tactics to win fights. That's why they are defined as unorthodox, being able to knock guys out from the weirdest angles with their speed and natural talent. It's the guys that don't know how to fight and use showboating that makes them and the sport look stupid. Also I don't believe we're giving Chris Weidman enough credit. All I'm hearing is what Silva did wrong to lose the fight but from what I saw Chris was dominating the fight and fought like a warrior. Hats off Chris.....great fight!!

Chris put on a hell of a fight and I really like his training approach. If there is a rematch I really don't think Anderson can beat him. Chris knows what to expect now, and he can train even more effectively.

Chris is my cousin and I had the pleasure of going to Vegas for my first time to see this fight. I also won betting on him, which was sweet. Not to mention the after parties lol
As of the latest news, Silva is finally starting to show interest in a rematch with Chris, and I'm glad it's coming. I believe Dana is thinking February, but Silva wants it to happen this year. Honestly it better be when I have a break from school because I'm sure as hell going to that fight. I'll post the article(s) on this when I find them
