Calling all SIMRAD mounting experts !!! :D

==
So I have two SIMRADs a pvs-9 and a 9a (aka a kn203 and a kn253) and both of the thingies on the rear end of the SIMRADs that mount on to the thingie that is on top of the scope mount are the same. You open a latch, and press on a button on the very rear of the SIMRAD and slide the SIMRAD over the (US) SIMRAD "cap" on the scope, then release the button, then tighten the latch and the SIMRAD is mounted (and during the process jiggle it a little to make sure it is seated).

My buddy bought a kn203 ... but the rear end of his simrad is different.

He came out here last weekend and we couldn't fit it over the US SIMRAD "cap" thingie. The channel is too narrow and there is a strange "protrusion" on the left side of the rear end of his simrad (per the pic above).
He called MHSS and they sent him the nada US "cap" thingie, but same problem.

On my SIMRADs there is a way to widen and narrow the channel. But sb001's rear end is different from mine. I know how to widen and narrow the channels on mine, but can't see how to do it on his.

... it can be adjusted if the channel is too tight ..

So how to adjust this kind ? I know how to adjust mine (thanks KSE !! :D ) ... but this one is totally different, don't know how to adjust this one !!

... I shortened the sidelock and cut a slot into my spuhr plate for it to lock into. It works VERY WELL this way ...

That sounds GREAT !!! I can picture that slot you cut. So this version won't work unless we cut that slot ? Ok, so that may be the second thing we need to do.

But what is the "sidelock" !!?? :D And how to shorten ??

So is the "sidelock" the name of the protrusion that hangs down on the right rear ??

(just tired of callin' everything a thing !!) :D :D :D

Ok

01 - Revert back to the US Cap
02 - Loosen the channel so the cap can slide into it, barely ( ... Take the screw out of the lever and pull it off. it mounts on a nut you can loosen ... )
03 - Cut a recoil lug per the pic
04 - Mount SIMRAD with older style mount and smile

Is that all we need to do !!??

... I had to also shorten my lug to clear the Spuhr cap ..

lug = sidelock.

"clear the spuhr cap" ... hum ... otherwise it doesn't "clear the spuhr cap" ... hum ...

shorten meaning remove some of it on the ground facing side ???

but maybe the lug has to be shortened to allow it to slide along the "shelf" of the cap until it gets back to the notch and drops in.

I bet that's what King meant by "clear the cap".

... Nope - that side recoil lug hits a spuhr mount cap if you don’t use a 4mm spacer. If you do it should clear ...

Whew ok thanks again !!

Ok so here is the (second) revised process:

01 - Revert back to the US Cap
02 - Loosen the channel so the cap can slide into it, barely ( ... Take the screw out of the lever and pull it off. it mounts on a nut you can loosen ... )
03 - Cut a recoil lug per the pic ( ... I used a vice and a good small hand file ... )
04 - Mount cap with spacer (screws already pre-shortened :D )
05 - Mount SIMRAD with older style mount and smile

That's to Cakes and King !!!
I love this forum, you guys were Johnny on the spot and helped us understand how to solve this issue ... THANKS, THANKS, THANKS !!! :) :) :)

... You forgot the part where you sell me that 253 cheap ...

Hum ... that's a tough one as I want a clipon for each of my rifles and I have exactly one clipon per rifle right now ... but you now occupy the top spot on the list of first refusal if I ever want to see the 253 ... and since it is you ... I'm sure I will remember !!

(and I'd probably want to trade for another 14 !)

But I'd need to get something like a 22 first.

thats not the US dovetail you have in hand . thats the euro model it looks like. cake is correct that that mount can be adjusted to run on the standard dovetail like the other design. as to the lug slot, that is really not necessary. the dovetail itself has gods plenty clamping force to keep that simrad in place on even the worst recoil. same principal as the arca swiss dovetail on tripods locking heavy rifles in them. its a old ass strong design.

Yes it is the euro ... sb001 had the US cap ... it didn't seem to work ... so we decided to send it back and see if the euro model worked better. It did not ... now sending the euro back and getting the US back back. Will try to get the iddy biddy screw out of the thing so we can adjust the width of the channel and get it on the US cap. That's the key. We got that now.
Thanks all !!!

This thread reminded me to break out my KN203 and remove the custom 1913 picatinny rail mount I had made for it to re-install the OEM mount for use on my Ruger Predator. Probably going to have to have some cocktails tonight and boresight it, oh darn :D Thanks, Wig!
