Many of you have seen the NV pictures I've taken to compare various tube performance, etc.

I picked up a Sionyx Pro NV camera to see how it would compare, and I honestly had no high hopes.

As expected, it certainly not an L3 Unfilmed killer, or even an Elbit killer... but it IS fairly decent in 50% moonlight or bright starfield.

Also, it's not to shabby when an illuminator is being used. Frankly, I think you can hunt with an laser without any real issues.

That being said, thermal is 100% the way to go, then NV with a laser, and the, for the cost effective not to shabby shot: the Sionyx Aurora Pro:

These are picture with a few porch lights from houses next to mine:

No illumination as seen pretty much with the naked eye:

One thing I want to stress is that taking pictures is much harder then I would’ve thought but looking through the unit it’s actually pretty clean.

Using a few Illuminators... with no light aside from 50% moonlight...

What's especially cool is that you get color when the light source is not IR. I there is enough ambient light for the unit to work, you see NV color. If you need to use an illuminator... then you get the B/W kind of view we see with the powerful illuminator above.

It does come with a rail mount, and works with rifles up to 556. Assuming you'll put a laser on the rifle you can hunt with it like that...

All for $1000.00 as opposed to $3000-$5000 for a PVS-14. (Though at $5k you should get a thermal.)

You can, but I wanted to try to get slightly better video quality out of the thing. I’ll take some using that and see how well it looked by comparison… When I originally played with it it was better on the phone because you get a bigger picture out of it.

I am about to snag an Aurora sport and a Luna Elir3 .....gonna try it on my Mk4 spotter and also rifle mounted ....most likely in front of a 4-14x day optic cranked down to 4 power and see how it does

...you can just click the record button and it'll save to the memory card... a little easier than holding your phone up.

So I finally got the pictures off the SD card and it turns out that the pictures as recorded by the pro do not look as well defined as the ones the camera took...

Your eyeball sees things a little bit more like the camera did and the pro actually sees the edges around the illuminator a lot darker when the pictures taken.

I'll have something to contribute after this weekend. Sionyx when used within the parameters known to work well are pretty solid, especially for people just getting into the night game like me.

Those aftermarket lenses and modifications in that link are impressive !!!

That's surprising, I thought that was the only thing the Sionyx had going for it.

Could post them for comparison please?

What are the specs on the camera vs the Sionyx?

    Day optic at night

No visible light used, only IR

Impressive! Guess it looks better in real life? What mag was that, and how does it cope at higher mag? Also, was that mounted in front of a scope? Reckon it’s feasible to mount it to the objective rather than a forward Picatinny rail?

Sorry for the barrage of questions!

Yeah I’ll pull up some pictures on my computer and Post them.

Yeah it definitely looks better in real life, similar to like a PVS 14 where it looks really good through the tube but when you try to take a picture sometimes doesn’t look so good.

The aurora’s camera requires you to manually adjust the exposure time in order to get decent pictures… Which is the time I didn’t realize. The auto exposure of an iPhone 11 Pro is far better than that of the aurora.

This is mounted BEHIND the day optic. So you have the following the adjust
    - eye piece on camera (diopter)
-focus ring on front of sionyx
    -parralax on scope

Scope is a 4-14x, looks really good around 8x and up. Even at 14x it's good.

It looks MUCH better in person.

Illuminated with a Luna Elir3 with filter REMOVED.

This is my first NV setup.

The Elir3 is a LEGIT piece of kit!!!!! What REALLY make it so awesome is being able to adjust intensity AND beam width. I zeroed it via Allen screws built in when beam was tight then opened beam up and turned intesntiy down = essentially IR spotlight.

That was about 40-50 yards (sorry I need to range it) and this weekend I'll get to see how this works at distance.

Eurooptic was running the Sport for $399

The sport is discontinued and doesnt specify its weapons rated.
This is true. There's about 103+ page thread over on arfcom.....I don't ever go there but landed there when doing research.

The general train of thought is the sport is literally the exact same as black other than exterior color and not having recoil activated record.

Soon enough I will find out and let everyone know. It's on a .223 Wylde gas gun now....when my Wilson Combat 6.5cm barrel comes in its going on that gas gun and I'll be using it on my 6.5cm bolt gun too.

Does the sport still have the pic rail mount capability?

If you dont mind me asking since you've done the research. Whats the basic difference between the models? They all look the same and I dont see in depth specs to compare.

Yes sport can do pic rail

The pic rail adapter is pic rail on bottom and standard camera thread mount on top.

Here's a comparison (I had to turn my phone sideways to view chart properly)

I would highly recommend this video

I could not find much info/videos using the sionyx behind a day scope....so I went out on a limb.
