I finally got my new UGSW 7WSM. It is sweet! Thanks very much to Mike and Tim at Skunkworks, I'm sure you've heard by now that Mike is great to deal with, and it's true, very nice guy. The build took a bit longer than expected so he hooked me up with flush cups, side bolt release, and Atlas Rail...for free! Thanks again Mike! I also have to thank Branden at Manners, he's a heck of a nice guy too and did a phenomenal job on the Multi-Cam paint. I will shoot it tomorrow and update with a range report. Now to the specs:

Rem 700 stainless short action, Trued + Modified feed lip
25" Broughton 5C 1 in 8.7 twist Recon contour
UGSW Bad Azz muzzle brake
Badger M5 DBM with 2 Accurate Mag 7 rounders
Timney/UGSW Trigger tuned to 3 lbs
Manners T4
Near 25 MOA Base
NF Rings & 5.5-22x56 NP-R1 no HS or ZS
She weighs in at 16 lbs as it sits.

SO I took her to the range today to start load development and I'm very happy. I have no doubt that the more open groups were all me. I was using 162 Amax with WMLR primer and 4831SC.

To those wondering about the brake, it blew my expectations out of the water. It kicked less than half what my 308 does! I would probably say the recoil is similar to a .223 honestly.

All are 4 round groups...

Re: My new Skunkworks 7 WSM

Sweet rifle and nice paint job. They build some awesome looking rifles. Can't wait to get mine back. Look forward to hearing a range report and how well the break works.

Cool, what specs are you thinkin?

Re: My new Skunkworks 7 WSM

As the others have said thats a very nice rig. The green goes great with the multi-cam. I second what Edubya asked hows the recoil on the 7 WSM? Also i couldn't find the specs to the recon contour but i like how it looks as to size and weight. What are it's dimensions compared to MTU or M40/M24?

Re: My new Skunkworks 7 WSM

Thanks guys! The barrel is .94 right before the brake. I'm not sure the breech diameter. I'm sure Mike will chime in soon to give us the specs. To those wondering about recoil I'll have an answer tomorrow.

Re: My new Skunkworks 7 WSM

Thanks for posting pics of the rifle all put together. I only get to see maybe 1 in 50+ stocks I paint all put together to see how the entire package looks together, i'm always cruising the site looking for pics of my work with everything all put together.

Glad you're happy with that good lookin' rig, and the paint job too!

I'll talk to Tom on Tuesday about changing up the pic on the site, needs updating. Have a great weekend!

The RECON Contour is 1.2" OD at the breech and I primarily run this contour for builds using the EFR.

Re: My new Skunkworks 7 WSM

That's nice I just started a 7 wsm build. I can't wait to get mine back. I plan on painting mine very similar, though instead of multicam I'm thinking of going with MARPAT for the stock and everything else the same and basically the same scope as well, though no brake at least yet. I can't wait to hear about the range report.

Re: My new Skunkworks 7 WSM

I'm sure the groups are going to shrink when you spend more time behind it. Sounds like the break is working just fine. Hows it feed those fat things? I thought about building 1 but i am not sure. Love the cartridge but not sure how much i would get to stretch its legs here where i live unless i drove up to Tom Sarvers place. All i do is varmint hunt and it would be a little over kill. Good luck with the nice stick and enjoy it as much as you can.

Re: My new Skunkworks 7 WSM

I only had 2 of the 37 rounds give me any trouble feeding. Must have been tue way I worked the bolt on those two or something.

Also, I have my bullets loaded to about .010 off the lands and I still have about .050 left in the mag to work with. I'm curious as to why some people build these on a long action. Are the Bergers that much longer?

Re: Skunkworks 7 WSM *Updated Range Report*

Joe, the mags are 2.970 inside. I don't trust my Pro-Chrony for crap but it was showing around 2900. I think it's probably more than that though. That stupid chronograph has always given me issues.

Re: Skunkworks 7 WSM *Updated Range Report*

That's a great looking rifle!

The Bergers are long, but most people don't have issues running them in a short action.

You still have a lot of room left for the 162s. I run the same powder and about 4 more grains of powder and all I shoot are the 180gr Bergers. The 162s should be able to do 3100fps easily.

Re: Skunkworks 7 WSM *Updated Range Report*

We definitely need to get out Jon, when do you get back?

Roscoe, I will be doing some more experimenting when I get back from leave and I'll keep that in mind. Is the 25 temperature sensitive?

Re: Skunkworks 7 WSM *Updated Range Report*

My 7/300wsm is shooting 66.0 grains. The 7 wsm's I've built all shoot anywhere from 66.5 to 68 grains of RL25. The 7SAUM's I've built are running around 62.0 grains of RL25. All with 180 Bergers and all are in the 2,900 to 2,950fps range.

It's never been temp sensitive for me as I've ran it in other rifles as well. The freebore difference between my rifles and yours may be the difference, I typically run around .178" FB in the calibers mentioned with the 180 VLD Bergers.

Re: Skunkworks 7 WSM *Updated Range Report*

I should be back sometime in mid march or so. Try some h4350 too. It's close in burn rate to RL 17.

Thanks for posting up the pictures!

Do you have a picture of the modified feed lip?

What do you think of the magazines? Did you modify the followers at all? On my 10-round magazines I bumped the ridge forward slightly because the 7mm WSM body is a little longer than the other WSM rounds.
