smk vs gameking

I haven't shot 6.5 140gr Gamekings, but I have just had my first experience with Gamekings in .308 165gr., so I can relate my impression of the Gameking from my limited experience. I've been shooting 168gr Amax through my .308 with pretty consistent .5 moa groups at 100 yards. I decided to try some 165 Gamekings and spent a couple days working up a load for them. After only 2 trips to the range, I shot a series of groups that measured between .315 and .500, so I'm ordering more Gamekings!

I found this on the web while also inquiring about this.

Prebanpaul,

The SGKs run thicker jackets and different core material than the SMKs, and as a result, the SMKs tend to be a bit more accurate. Minor differences in most cases, and I've shot many thousands of groups of the GKs which performed very well. If you've got a good price on them, no reason to shy away from the deal.

If changing from SMK's to Game Kings, just simplify the change and use a comparator to establish seating depth. If you seat a game king using OAL to tip you may end up with a jammed bullet, especially if you were shooting SMK's close to the lands.

As stated, the Game Kings use a different jacket and are not as uniform in thickness as the SMK's. They will be more prone to "wobble" as they slow down so accuracy will suffer more the farther downrange they fly.
