I just got done watching this two hour show on the History channel. They did a pretty good job recreating scenes from sniper missions from Vietnam and Iraq. Chuck Mawhinney and Carlos Hathcock were both on the show as well as other US Army and Marine snipers. Hearing those guys tell their stories really made the show interesting for me. I'm sure a lot of you guys would also find it very interesting so I thought I would let you know. If you haven't seen it already I strongly recommend it.

Umm, the title of the show is the same as the title of the original post. You also know the name of the channel. They have an online schedule. Google is your friend.

I don't think they will be airing it within the next few days. I typed it into the weekly schedule on History Channel and it gave no results. However, there is a similar show produced by the same people called Sniper: Inside the Crosshairs. You can find it on youtube. Also if you are really dying to see it History sells DVDs of all their shows but they are kind of pricy.

I'm downloading right now, hope it's not just a remake of the "inside the crosshairs" show. I don't have/need cable. It's $90+/month and split that between beefing up the shooting budget, and the spoiling my daughters rotten fund.

I think the guy (Ethan I think his name was) was the best one they did.. That guy hit running targets anywhere from 200- 800 meters, and did it from the same spot over multiple days.

Of all those "Top sniper" "Inside the Crosshairs" etc. documentaries I have to say I'm most impressed with Ethan Places story. Multiple kills in a street hotly contested by the insurgents and his fellow Marines. His story is different from most in that most of his kills were fast shooting. He didn't have time to calculate a shot. He had to go by what he felt was the range. Set himself up somewhere in the middle and be able to quickly calculate drops. One particular shot he made was at about 600-650 yds. and he had 1.5 seconds to see and shoot a running target. That's good I don't care who you are.

I definitely think that what he did was impressive to say the least. There are not many out there that have those kinds of marksmanship abilities but I still think the enemy was not very smart. He said the street was full of dead bodies (If I witnessed 20ppl get shot trying to cross the street I would definitely look for another way around). Also Ethan stated that before he got a head shot on the running target the insurgent was sticking his head back and fourth behind some door to see where the sniper is, he than made a dash for it and got 175gr projectile right in the mellon. I know they did not know the sniper's position but they knew the entire street was the killzone and they still took a gamble.

...or maybe they underestimated the marksmanship abilities of the sniper. Maybe they never encountered anything like it before... Whatever they were thinking did not work out for them. Hats of to Ethan Place, I'm sure his shots saved a lot of marines.

I had lunch yesterday with one of the guys in the vietnam part of that show, he said they did a pretty good job on that show. Could sit and listen to his stories for days, a living history book and great american.

I've reread marine sniper twice since seeing this documentary. Very good stuff!! Just not near enough shows like this on tv......

Can't remember the guys name, but the episode where they talk about the guy that took his M21 with the PVS2 and stayed behind with a critically wounded soldier at a crash site fighting off all the bad guys....Friggin amazing!
