Sidearms & Scatterguns So here is a potential good deed... Buy Yourself a Christmas Kukri!

So over the past 5 years, the UK Government has decimated the Gurkha Regiments. They are down to 1 from, I think, 5. This is a massive hit to the men of Nepal. But also to their traditional Kukri makers.

A real Kukri is less than $100 delivered....

This helps folks eat. It preserves a craft. And the knives are gorgeous. See it done.

Now think about getting yourself a cool stocking stuffer. A great all around knife. And an amazing piece of history.

Not affiliated with this company. Getting nothing. But I have one that I ordered several years ago and they were outstanding. And I think the Gurkhas are amazing, lethal warriors whose traditions are inspirational. Maybe someday, the weenie UK will realize how much these warriors matter. But until then, they are going to be adrift. And for what a few boxes of ammo cost, you can have a piece of history and maybe help keep a factory running.

Send a Merry Christmas to some hard workers!

thanks Sirhr!
i am always looking for gifts that are hand crafted and unique. i ordered 2 of them.
my nephew really liked the gransfors bruk forest axe i bought for him, so this goes along with that really well for xmas.

bump.

Hopped on to order one last night. I am confused. Ummmmm. Will some one give me a briefing on which one to get. Just pretend I am a 11B spec4 who spends all my spare funds on high interest Camaro loans, Rip-its, Copenhagen, and Slim Jim's plus the "I know she is a stripper SSG, but we are in love and are getting married before I deploy"
Question #1. Would you get the #1 or #2. What I can glean is #1 is a ceremonial/dress knife and #2 is a utility
Question #2. 10" or 12" blade. Which do you like and why?
You can get lost in that website reading about history and all the different variants, sizes, ext. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have one that was gifted to me by two Nepali brothers I used to work with. The older brother is sort of the titular head of the Nepali community in the US. One of their uncles was a former Prime Minister of Nepal. They told me the blank steel used is often old car/truck leaf springs. Anyhow it is a beast.

Mine is a Service No. 1 with no options. Though if (at the time) they had a Nepal Flag patch, I'd have gotten one!

Cheers,

Sirhr

Both #1 and #2 are great quality knives, but #1 is a bit fancier looking (notice the shiny vs mat sheath).
Weight is important, British issue is 10.25" but blade thickness varies between models as does weight. Look at the 8" or 11" jungle, lighter and easier to carry.

just fyi, i ordered the other day and not all of them may be received in time for xmas.
i was conversing via email with them and they said the service ones should be okay, but some of the others may take longer.

My order from usa depot went through.
I ordered on dec 6th from usa with a guaranteed delivery by the 18 for xmas.
3 days later i got a shipping update sent from nepal not usa with a dec 29th delivery.

This is part of the email I received yesterday:

Your sales (order) has been acknowledged and now into process and will be sent to you very soon. Please allow us 25-30 days to prepare the Khukuri/s as it will be handmade and this one being the most difficult to craft hence the time frame.

Not sure if this is a generic statement that goes out on all orders but I figure it should arrive sometime in February.

depends on which ones.
i have communicated with them and they advised the service kukris can often be available and shipped quickly.
other more fancy models or bowie knives take longer and may be made to order.

So...what do you think of your Kukris? I ordered 2 of the World War(historic) Kukris mid Dec and got them this last week. I love them! Helluva knife. Looking at ordering a couple more, maybe a mini and something else. It's not a kukri but I like the looks of the Bowie. Can't help but think of Crocodile Dundee's statement..."THAT'S a knife".

I don't know how I missed this thread before, glad I found it. This is one of those things that I've always wanted but just never got one. I'm definitely getting one, love and respect the work they do. Now I just need to decide which to get. In the raw black category, the Pana Plus Discover is looking like my choice. I prefer the basic workhorse style over the fancy ones and I'm getting it to use not display. I'm excited!

I really like the Preacher too, non traditional for them but it looks amazing.

Glad I stumbled on this thread and surprised I missed it the first time. Order placed - wow that's quite the site to stumble through and decide. We'll see what shows up.

We should start putting up pics of them all as they arrive!

I received mine a few weeks ago. Combat model.

although i got the service kukris (parade) in time for xmas, i just got the more expensive one i ordered for my nephew at the same time
i think maybe these are made to order or something.

I was wondering about the field knife add on. For $14 I had to add it to my order but had no idea it attached to the main sheath.

I went with the "all by hand" model with a few customizations - looking forward to it!

Are they still taking about a month or so from order?

Depends on what you order. Some are kept in stock and ship right away while others are made to order and take longer. I ordered mine on 19 December and I received an email last week that said they will need another week or so to finish it. This is a pic of what I ordered so I will post up a comparison pic when it shows up.

i likes the guard on the handle considering it is for a teen and i don't want him to cut himself and be the "bad uncle".

Got mine yesterday and they are fantastic.

I'm currently deciding on a couple more now, I really like this company.
in today's world of disposable consumer items (i hate it), it so cool to find out about products that are made by hand and that you can give and expect to be heirloom sort of possessions instead of tossed away or sold for a couple bucks at a yard sale.

of course it comes at a cost, but i am happy to pay and even happier if i can pass on some respect for craftsmanship to my nephew.

just for shits i googles chinese kukri knives. 15 bucks.
