So over the past 5 years, the UK Government has decimated the Gurkha Regiments. They are down to 1 from, I think, 5. This is a massive hit to the men of Nepal. But also to their traditional Kukri makers.

A real Kukri is less than $100 delivered....

Just pretend I am a 11B spec4 who spends all my spare funds on high interest Camaro loans, Rip-its, Copenhagen, and Slim Jim's plus the "I know she is a stripper SSG, but we are in love and are getting married before I deploy"
Question #1. Would you get the #1 or #2. What I can glean is #1 is a ceremonial/dress knife and #2 is a utility
Question #2. 10" or 12" blade. Which do you like and why?

I have one that was gifted to me by two Nepali brothers I used to work with. The older brother is sort of the titular head of the Nepali community in the US. One of their uncles was a former Prime Minister of Nepal. They told me the blank steel used is often old car/truck leaf springs. Anyhow it is a beast.

Mine is a Service No. 1 with no options. Though if (at the time) they had a Nepal Flag patch, I'd have gotten one!

Both #1 and #2 are great quality knives, but #1 is a bit fancier looking (notice the shiny vs mat sheath).
Weight is important, British issue is 10.25" but blade thickness varies between models as does weight. Look at the 8" or 11" jungle, lighter and easier to carry.

from what i could see, the service ones all come with a sheath, but you can pay extra for the "western" that has a strap for the handle and ring for tying the bottom down.

depends on which ones.
i have communicated with them and they advised the service kukris can often be available and shipped quickly.
other more fancy models or bowie knives take longer and may be made to order.

So...what do you think of your Kukris? I ordered 2 of the World War(historic) Kukris mid Dec and got them this last week. I love them! Helluva knife. Looking at ordering a couple more, maybe a mini and something else. It's not a kukri but I like the looks of the Bowie. Can't help but think of Crocodile Dundee's statement..."THAT'S a knife".

I don't know how I missed this thread before, glad I found it. This is one of those things that I've always wanted but just never got one. I'm definitely getting one, love and respect the work they do. Now I just need to decide which to get. In the raw black category, the Pana Plus Discover is looking like my choice. I prefer the basic workhorse style over the fancy ones and I'm getting it to use not display. I'm excited!

I really like the Preacher too, non traditional for them but it looks amazing.

Depends on what you order. Some are kept in stock and ship right away while others are made to order and take longer. I ordered mine on 19 December and I received an email last week that said they will need another week or so to finish it. This is a pic of what I ordered so I will post up a comparison pic when it shows up.

in today's world of disposable consumer items (i hate it), it so cool to find out about products that are made by hand and that you can give and expect to be heirloom sort of possessions instead of tossed away or sold for a couple bucks at a yard sale.

of course it comes at a cost, but i am happy to pay and even happier if i can pass on some respect for craftsmanship to my nephew.
