Last weekend we decided to take a "short cut" up a ridge to get from one trail to another. That turned out to be a bad idea. Somewhere in that bad idea I broke the focus knob on my slc 10x42. They're going to have to go back to Swaro and who knows how long that will take.

This has led me to believe I need better navigation skills and a quality backup pair of binos. I'm thinking something 8x that's smaller lighter and doesn't have a swaro tax applied to it. I looked through the swaro pocket models and wasn't impressed. Like to keep it around 1k and don't want Chinesium. I have a pair of diamondback HD for loaners and they're great for what I paid but yeah they're loaners for a reason.

I've been looking at meopta, mavin, kowa, but they have a dizzying array of models. I've also noticed none of them say where they're made so any help in that regards would be appreciated. The kowo prominar look suspiciously like my diamondbacks....

Leica is another option. I've been impressed with the glass on my rangefinder and the wife's monovid just haven't dug through their models yet. I'm assuming they're all made in Portugal?

I've been VERY happy with a set of Minox BL 10x44's. Highly recommend them.

European glass?

Been looking at these

And these

The Leicas I'm assuming are made in Portugal with European glass. What about the meopta? I've heard they use Euro glass and are assembled in Europe or the US at least for the higher end stuff. I'm going to try and find better pics but the eyecups look like swaro style which I like. Kinda wanting to try the meopta since if I ever get 15xs it would probably be from them.

Eta are these the same as the meopta above? Don't care for the looks but they're a bit cheaper.

Does anyone have experience with the meopta b1 plus 8x32? Do these have better glass than the standard b1? Camera Land has a sale going at the moment. Read some reviews about the focus knob being finicky and some people not liking the eye relief.

The eye relief is listed as 16mm same as my slc and the eye cups look the same so I should be good on that. Not sure what to think of the focus knob issues. Seems like a lot of glass for the $. When doing comparison it looks like the 10x42 slc is discontinued. If so😔. Love mine.
