Last weekend we decided to take a "short cut" up a ridge to get from one trail to another. That turned out to be a bad idea. Somewhere in that bad idea I broke the focus knob on my slc 10x42. They're going to have to go back to Swaro and who knows how long that will take.
This has led me to believe I need better navigation skills and a quality backup pair of binos. I'm thinking something 8x that's smaller lighter and doesn't have a swaro tax applied to it. I looked through the swaro pocket models and wasn't impressed. Like to keep it around 1k and don't want Chinesium. I have a pair of diamondback HD for loaners and they're great for what I paid but yeah they're loaners for a reason.
I've been looking at meopta, mavin, kowa, but they have a dizzying array of models. I've also noticed none of them say where they're made so any help in that regards would be appreciated. The kowo prominar look suspiciously like my diamondbacks....
Leica is another option. I've been impressed with the glass on my rangefinder and the wife's monovid just haven't dug through their models yet. I'm assuming they're all made in Portugal?
