That's just stupid... they need to shut this stuff down. Of course, it's about the only thing keeping money coming into Nepal...
Who wants to be an 'Everest' climber now? Giant ego cases these days... paying Sherpas and guides to take them up at any cost.

I saw pictures of the debris field of oxygen tanks 20 years ago and thought to myself that it would be shut down sooner than later. Guess they need the money. Anybody tell them they'd make more if they'd put in a chairlift? ?
What's worse is that it is not technically that difficult. It's more about oxygen management and a superior cardio vascular system and pushing your luck with the storms. There's no air at 26,000 feet. It's NOT easy, it's just not hard like most would think when talking about climbing a mountain.

No desire whatsoever to climb Everest. Or any other mountain for that matter.
It should be shut down until all the bodies and trash is removed. Then if opened, require all trash and dead to be removed prior to the next group ascending.
Like many aspects of life today, it is overused and has lost it's meaning. Just like killing a huge bighorn sheep. You either win the lotto and walk out and shoot it or buy the permit for 400,000 USD and go shoot it. Not really much to be proud of either way. Too many people competing for a limited resource.

Seems Everest is still considered 'the Noble thing' by societies standards for play hard adventure seekers, while other activities with danger of possible death put down .

I think it's a genetic thing ?. some people get altitude sickness far quicker than others . I get it pretty easy just playing at lot less altitude of Everest . I had it couple times and It is REALLY brutal headache and sick feeling to have . Other people don't bother them as fast .

They would make more money if they installed a couple of outdoor escalators with a beer garden at the summit.
$11,000 fucking dollars for a permit to climb a mountain,go figure.

When I was a kid, I really wanted to climb Everest. Stories of Tenzig Norgay and Sir E. Hillary was all I could think about. As I got to my teens and my 20's, I was in shape and could have done it physically. I was not able to afford it; however, after seeing the guide companies jump up and amusement type atmosphere of rich people having Sherpa's carry and store their O2 bottles for them along the way.. I just gave up.
Now I am glad I never did it.... We have trashed the mountain, left bodies and depleted O2 bottles... who cares? A fitting tribute to the way man typically "Explores"
Besides... you think EH was the first man to climb Everest? Shit... you know it was a Norgay or other indigenous person and probably 200 years ago.

I have been on top of Everest. Her name was Erica Everest. What a climb that was.......
I’m doing good climbing the stairs at work.
I got a friend who did base camp and then summit Everest under his own power, no one packing his gear . He did not describe it as a cakewalk .

that pic reminds me of the lines at Disney world except the snow its more sun burn while you wait . That may be why that place smells so much like bacon frying in a pan . nothing like waiting in line while people pass out around you . Yea the line can move 2 inches forward again .
I dont know if it was "White Spider" or "Eiger Wall of Death" that I read but the first guys to tackle the face of that thing did their duty.
For a while it was a Nazi challenge akin to our attempt at the moon.
Those guys put themselves through hell and basically had to climb while under fire from all the shit raining down on them.
Spent a long weekend in Kleine Sheidegg skiing in the shadow of that beast.

Nevermind... it's the Edelweiss the flower used for Anti-Nazi groups during the rise and was aptly applied the German Mountaineer Division and is now their symbol/icon for their Mountain Division.

Nah, climbing the face of the Eiger became a challenge of sorts amongst the nations that did such things. Mainly Brits, Italians, Germans and Swiss.
Pre war the Germans felt it was their superman pride to be the first.
Remember stories of a climber "Tony" that basically hung on the side of the mountain for years after succumbing, think he got hit by a rock, cant remember.
There is a restaurant on the ski slopes that faces the wall of the mountain. Peeps could sit and watch the climbers while chewing Steak and frites.
Guess it was NASCAR before there was NASCAR.
Ed Viesturs is an American who climbed the 7 highest peaks and a bunch of others without O2 and completely naked. OK, not completely naked, but if Everest is your one peak, you are not a climber, you are a tourist. Hell, I've seen smaller lines for a shitter at Disneyland.

30 years ago I thought about it and mountaineering in the Himalayans. I got into more technical alpine climbing. The 1990s is where the guided pay to play really started. Today anybody with $40-50k to burn can attempted it. The problem is, like most things, drop that many nuggets and you expect to get your reward, the summit, and the guides and clients lose their perspective. Guessing weather windows and plugging in your summit attempt is a gamble. While you do have to be extremely physically fit its more mental. Some adapt quite well to altitude while others just cant and nothing will correct this. You lose your appetite at altitude yet your body screams for calories, you cant sleep at altitude only trickle charge and your body wants rest, your body is starved of o2 so your core does not generate heat. You are in the jet stream with cold biting blasting winds. You don't really need a technical climbing skill set. Knowing how to self arrest is a must, next how to clip a jumar or krab onto the fixed ropes. Anyone who thinks its easy is clearly mistaken. Its big money for Nepal as it is for Pakistan, India and China though somewhat easier to be granted access.
There are harder peaks to bag at close to the same altitude and worse weather but Chomolungma is the highest is altitude, it is not the tallest in relief.

No one said it was easy, just not the technical "climbing" most people thing about when they hear mountain climbing.
This is what most people think mountain climbing is.
I have never understood why you would want to climb like that. At that altitude and with the chance of just getting stuck behind someone that cannot go any further you can very easily loose body parts or even die. And for what??? Not this guy
I like that. Made me think that we could offer packages special discounts to Muslims. When they get there we'll have a big catapult.
That's a pretty tall order, better ask @THEIS he might be able to point you in the direction of one that could maybe do it, but I'm not sure they have one that can get up there.

Well you can pretty much take that situation off the table lolol.....
The High Altitude rescue team in Nepal typically operates at 12-17k ASL but in 2016 Bell conducted field trials on a 412EPI near Mt Everest.
They were able to hover at 18k (Which is crazy when you think about how thin the air is that the rotor blades must beat to death lol) and flew at 20k.
So the summit of Mt Everest and helicopter......Good Luck with that
Highest Helicopter rescue in History (Unless things have changed in past few years) is 25k but injured climber was rescued by long line from Everest. Same pilot credited for having highest altitude helicopter flight in the world the same year (2013).
