So now I'm worried that if I start in with 'wheres my $500' that I may completely wreck his attempt to either go along like nothing happened, or better yet, try and get more money out of me.

Hmmmm.

Going to listen to the voicemail that was left. Standby.

It's like counseling someone. You always start with "Do you know why I called you in here?"

Let him bury himself if he's looking for more free money.

You have to look at this from an entertainment standpoint in that I don't expect to get any money back.

Interesting.....I've not seen you to be that kind of a person in the past, but it's your choice and it's none of anyone else's business, including mine. My position was that of not packing any more sand down that rathole......By way of disclosure, I'm not any cleaner than anyone else.....I/we/the wife lent a sum of money to people that amscray'd with the money, so we've been burned too.

At the end of the day.......good on you that you can/will look at it from the perspective of entertainment. We just got back from vacation a week ago and were burgled while we were gone, so my humor "bandwidth" is a bit limited, at least temporarily.....

Return text to dead beat.....

"Hey great hearing from you, would of called you sooner but for lacking $500 in cash on hand my life spiraled into hell. My girlfriend left me, I was evicted from my house and had to become a tranny prostitute to gain the barest means of survival. Im just coming out of my depression now. How has your llife been?

You know subtlety..........

I'm pretty harsh to people most of the time. I was pretty harsh towards the end of this with him as well, but chalked it up to a loss and moved on. I was always told that when loaning money to friends and family, assume you're not getting it back, when going through your thought process.

My answer to everything in life is almost always no.

Had this been 3 years ago I'd be much more forward and aggressive towards it. Seeing as how 3+ years later someone wasn't able to get their head out of their ass far enough to stick $500 together, well, I've been way past that. No need to stay angry at this kind of bullshit. I bet he has a new iPhone or bought SOMETHING over that time that was $500+; its not like he was locked in a fucking box.

Gotcha........I've gotten old enough over the years that I'm just not interested in fighting those fights anymore. I/we have had people hit us up for money in the last couple of years and I just tell them no, outright. The ones that are worthwhile, find their own way and get out of their jams via hard work. They also don't tend to hold grudges against you not loaning them money.

I think the common denominator to solving someone's financial problems is just plain hard work. The wife and I have been through it and what few/little lessons we didn't already know about, we learned with OTJ.........but those lessons were learned many years ago.

phone call off the bat, its easy to type a pitty party and ask for $ on a text

it takes some balls to ask on the phone out of nowhere

if he asks for $ on the phone, then you have a open door to ask him why this time it will be different

no he is on the defensive

you can be aggressive without being mean

just a constant flow of questions that he has to answer because you are still the golden egg

either you catch him in a lie (which is my opinion), or he has a good business plan

gut check time...do you have the "guts" to say no even if his kid has cancer

if you think you will "crack" stay away, everyone has a story

1. everybody has money for what they want
2. loaned money is lost money

My vote is be nice hahaha, you never know what people are going through ... ??‍♂️

BUT

If he asks for money again, think of the most disgusting job you can think of and offer him the job haha to see how much of a shitbird he is if he actually wants to work for it or just wants something for nothing

Oh if the response is asking for more money I'm going to hang the fucking phone up.

Trolololo is always an option.

Wut da fuk kinda' shit you been rollin' around in this afternoon ?...................

yup...ride this shit out for entertainment purposes. i mean fuck, for $500, and interest, you are entitled to something for it...even if it is dark humor.

good on you for trying to help someone, that is admirable. i am sure you see it the same way as me; in that IF i decide to loan money to anyone, i do it with the understanding that i will likely never see any of it back.

as for myself....i could never ask anyone for a dime. i just couldnt do it. i dont know how people get by begging or “borrowing”. i would rather curl up and die than ask someone for a handout.

Thats true.

I'm considering the reversal option in that, I'm actually calling back to ask him for money. Or maybe tell him his timing couldn't have been better due to me just now coming across a unique business opportunity in opening an essential oil franchise.

eta - Shit, maybe I can get enough money out of him to buy that Gewehr43 I've been trying to get!
