There is reasoning why Iran might not be seeking a nuke. Its a kinda game of chicken everyone playing it without nukes. The only real situation when risk outweighed the benefit is if they felt they are existentially threatened.
Long story short Iran is a regional power in a conventional sense and can exert considerable influence as such , since US broke Iraq, Iran is practically the no1 force in the region. Iran going nuclear would mean GCC Arabs would buy nuclear weapons, and then all the conventional edge would go up in smoke, tiny Qatar or Bahrein getting nukes suddenly play on a level playing field . That is one calculation that always held back nuclear ambitions.
This is one of the lessons from India and Pakistan going nuclear , India lost its massive edge over Pakistan, Before going nuclear India dwarfed Pakistan in military capability once it went for nukes, Pakistan went for nukes took them 2 decades to catch up and now , they have to behave as equals even though they are not. I don't think GCC would need 2 decades to get nukes if Iran does ,nuclear edge would probably last months not years.

i'm not sure i understand the modern leniency on piracy. these missile attacks seem to qualify. the horn of africa attacks were treated with kid gloves. a lot of vids around about the US arresting the pirates and treating them like domestic criminals. not a steven decatur approach. looks same here to me. with our love of whacking people over there i don't get not doing a total full court destruction of the source. cleaning out these sources of piracy looks to me like maybe the only excuse there is for all these military interventions of the last century or so.
