There's a spoterized 03A3 done by Santa Fe for sale, in 300 WM, and the only Santa Fe I've ever owned (another 03A3 not nearly as nice as this one, in 30-06) was pretty weak quality wise.

The stock on this one looks GREAT, but the action seems kinda worn, particularly the barrel. It has VERY poor bluing, so I email the seller:

The blueing on the muzzle looks to be very worn down, what is the condition
of the bore?

Do you have any pictures of it?

Thanks,

Keith

picture 3, thanks

sorry picture 6, and 18

Hi [sellers name removed for privacy],

Pictures 6 & 18 are pictures of the muzzle, not the bore.

The bore is the inside of the barrel, and shows rifling condition. Do you have pictures of the inside of the barrel? I want to see to make sure it's not shot out.

Thanks,

Keith

I go not take pictures of bores, they are a joke. Thanks

Now, this guy has a feedback of OVER 1000! Does he really do that much business and think that bores are a joke, or is this a cover up???

A general picture, and then #6 and #18:

Re: Something wrong with this picture, just me?

a bit of common sense here.....

a fifty , sixty or so year old military gun.....sporterized,,,,

what really do one expect....a two groove, or a 6 groove barrel???

this shit was all over the country back before guns got a bad wrap when Kennedy was shot.......

buy this gun and get an education.......so what if the barrel looks like a potato field......if it shoots, so what

you are asking all the wrong questions

thats how I took it too.

Re: Something wrong with this picture, just me?

I think "g" in "go" was meant to be a "d" as in "do" which would make it "I do not take pictures of bores, they are a joke. Thanks"

Look down at your keyboard and see how easily this mistake could've happened. Either way we can't definitivly conclude what he meant unless the OP specifically asks the seller what he truly meant. Another thing that could reveal something is if the seller is an English speaker or if this is a foreign man/woman.

Re: Something wrong with this picture, just me?

I agree with the typo, he obviously meant "I do not take pictures of bores", which means he thinks taking pictures of them at all is a joke, not the pictures he might have taken that didn't come out well.

I'm surprised that two of you guys think that he actually took pictures of the bore, considering he didn't even know the difference between the bore and the muzzle earlier, and redirected me back to pictures I had obviously already seen (since I mentioned the poor barrel condition).

Guy with a very American name and an expensive phone (the email had the phone signature), and working out of Iowa with 1000+ feedback. Don't think its a foreigner.

Haha, you're right, the scope is off 90 degree CCW. Didn't even notice that when i looked at the auction, wasn't interested in the scope at all...

I put my lamp on the table next to the rifle, and since the lamp has an adjustable neck, I can get it to blast light down the bore, and put my camera on a tripod to take the picture, set to manual focus.

Shining a flashlight probably wouldn't be enough light, unless you use a surefire...

Re: Something wrong with this picture, just me?

This guy doesn't know a thing about what he's doing. As pointed out above, he mounted the scope wrong... I mean, we all make mistakes, but this guy is making alot. Steer clear of this guy and his rifle if you ask me...

Re: Something wrong with this picture, just me?

What is a picture of the bore really going to tell you anyway?? I mean honestly, you can hardly tell anything about a barrel by looking down the bore in person. Someone with a bore scope might be able to tell something, but even then wihtout having comparable samples to look at it is not exact, and even then, a barrel that looks shitty through a bore scope might shoot lights out. Can you see the difference between a couple thou with your naked eye? How do you know what it looked like new or at 500 rounds?

regards

I have to agree with you there but I'm not so much concerned with this as much as all of the issues that have evolved from and stemmed off of that specific question. The OP may feel differently of course.

Re: Something wrong with this picture, just me?

About 10 years ago I came accross one of these chambered in 300wm. It actually shot pretty well. I gotta tell you that it looked worn out too. Sold it to a friend that still uses it to hunt elk. Then 6 years ago I bought a gun from an employee of mine hard up for money (sight unseen) for cheap. It was a 30-06 version of this gun. It also looked worn out. It shot above average too. They are not my personal preference and I don't believe either of them were 1000 yard rifles but for the price of them they were fine hunting rifles.

I have seen instances in the past where folks mounted scopes this way. You can make adjustments with your weak hand without removing your strong hand from the firing position.
