so im in the market for a rifle..
#1 on my list from what i have read and have my eye on is a PSL,iv head about the problems you might run into canted sightes ect.... some will tell me to go try one out and see which rifle i like well one problem shooting ranges here dont have them to try.. and no one i know has one..

my main goal is a good all around rifle, range im looking for is 300 to 400 dont want to spend more than $1000 on just the rifle then half to buy optics and ammo ect unless thats my only option.. but of course you get what you pay for..

2nd on my list is a DPMS 308

I want reliabilty, since i live in the desert.. of course id be cleaning my weapon after shooting/ every 3 months spray it to keep it lubed..

any advice, suggestions or other rifles i should do research on cause you have a good or bad personal experience from..?

sorry again im new to the forum..
and thank you for the ones who give me useful info.

3-400 yards? Buy yourself a $600 AR with a 1 in 7 or 1 in 8 barrel in whatever length you want. A regular 20" AR will shoot that far just fine.

I don't know how much scope you demand but if a $300 1-4 isn't enough, a 10x Bushnell Elite 3200 is $200-250.

A cheap, 20" flat top AR with that 10x on top will be a joy to shoot for 3-400 yards and tremendously versatile for other uses. Don't rule out a 16", though, because with good bullets and the right shooter, even a carbine can hit targets at that distance with no problem at all.

There's nothing wrong with a communist rifle but with a $1000 budget, you can have yourself a fine AR and scope and be hosing paper out at 400 yards without an issue.

Shooting 800+, you might desire something else, but for what you're trying to do, you'd be hard pressed to beat .223 with the right bullet, especially in light of the cheap ammo.

That said, if you really wanted to get into a .308 + that same Bushnell, you could possibly squeeze into it for under a grand, but then the ammo would cost more, it would thump your shoulder harder, and you'd really have a lot more rifle than you need for what you're doing.

$1000 is not a tight budget at all for what you want to do. Forget the gear snobs who tell you otherwise, as they probably don't have gas money to even get to the range.

oh man you're telling me. I just got in a HUGE fight with mine because I told her that I'm getting a GAP-10 no discussion once my bonus comes.

she told me that bonus could be used for paying credit cards and shit...

I guess I need to get her something something too to make things even... there goes a quality scope for the sake of being able to get the gun!
