Most of the time tactical means painting it the cammo color of the week. Double the price for a coat of spray paint.
From a capitalistic point of view, quite clever. Make up for lack of training by purchasing the wonder combat tool. Buy the (insert piece of kit) used by a (insert Spec OP unit of choice) gauranteed to make you invincible in the face of the enemy.
Maybe false motivation is better than no motivation. Whatever works I guess.

In all seriousness, they have a place. I have a good buddy who's a lawyer, who travels a LOT for court cases. Between all the airport security, and courthouse security...he is frequently in places where he can't have "weapons". He takes a Hinderer pen with him everywhere he goes.

A pointy piece of metal, which serves a legit purpose, clipped to your pocket/shirt collar...is a lot better than nothing. If you want to know what a hard pointy pen can do, ask a corrections officer.

I usually wear one of these myself. For $25, why not?

No matter when I am, I can always have at least that. It's usually used to write with, though.

Re: Spec Forces Tomahawk

There are all kinds of little devices here and there that are innocent enough, I usually drop one of these in my pocket, seems to go right through security in my shoe with the rest of my change.

I have one of these, but the schrade looks a lot more economical.

Finally these make a tremendous money clip, but they are not TSA friendly. One hand opening, a substantial small blade and razor sharp. You can usually find them for about $30

Re: Spec Forces Tomahawk

The Benchmade hawk looks interesting.

I have enjoyed reading this thread. I had to get one because I made the mistake of watching Modern Marvels after the Last of the Mohicans ... As LonwolfUSMC mentioned, much like the rifle, the tomahawk is a piece of American heritage.

Those RAT knives are so nice! as soon as I have a use for one all the time I will wait on ordering one. Very well made though.

Re: Spec Forces Tomahawk

Interesting thread. Wanted to add my .02. The answer to the original question is Sayoc/Winkler Tomahawk. Daniel Winkler makes these for the teams. I am part of the Donor Program in which the donor fronts the purchase price for one of these to go to a team member and the donor can purchase one for himself. I was introduced to Winkler by my buddy, who is an active 12-year operator. From what I gather from him, these little tools come in quite handy and are carried with regularity on deployment. Although I understand that Winkler's knives are also very popular with the teams. Couple of links, fyi:

I actually have some experince with edged weapons although its been a few years. I think a hawk has a lot of use as a tool but I wouldnt want to use one as a weapon without a lot of practice you have to consider with a hawk you have a small blade a set distance out from your hand that you need to strike with a relatively steep angle to do serious damage. Something like a machete with a much longer striking surface is likely going to be a better weapon.
