I watched the video on another forum. Quite interesting and contradicts a lot of what people expect to happen with ammunition in a fire etc...

Pretty interesting. Not what I expected in terms of the the larger batches of ammo cooking off.

Been around plenty of ammo going off on structure fires and we learned long ago that there was no real velocity to worry about.
Good video and we will be watching it at a traning soon.

This is all fine and dandy, but I can say I have laddered through a second story building window, sounded the floor, and used the nightstand as a stool to get into a hot room. That said, upon overhaul of the structure, a 38 was found in that same nightstand with the grips melted off. There was not a round in the cylinder of the revolver that was in line with the barrel, but all the other cylinders had exploded rounds. That made me reach down and pat my balls.
Makes one think......

8lbs of smokeless powder has roughly the same energy as a pint of gasoline. As long as it is not confined in a very robust container, it will likely just flare off in a fairly unexciting manner.
People sometimes get all wound up over a few pounds of smokeless powder, and yet don't think twice about storing gas cans, propane tanks, welding bottles, etc. in their attached garages.
