Can small pistol primers substitute for small rifle primers?
Elvis ammo just did a video on this, he didn't blow any primers, but the cups are supposedly thinner on small pistol primers, so you gotta watch pressure and or slam fires on semi autos with floating pins. I'm going to try some powder coat cast with SPP with trail boss in my 223 bolt gun, keep them subsonic, then explore higher speeds and expand to jacketed bullets and different powders. Can small pistol primers substitute for small rifle primers?
No. Pistol primers are not suitable for modern rifle cartridge pressures.
Can small pistol primers substitute for small rifle primers?
No for one reason small pistol primers dont have the flame heat or intensity to completely burn rifle powders .Can small pistol primers substitute for small rifle primers?
He does in the next videoAs for Elvis, paraphrase "I was worried about a slam fire ..." but no safety glasses??? His testing doesn't prove anything other than his loads, whatever they were didn't fail but he didn't bother to show us any fired primers!
Shotgun primers are the same size, I believe that was sarcasmCan small shotgun primers be used in place of srp?
My SRP Lapua brass lasts much much longer than LRP Hornady brass. I get 3-4 loads out of Hornady before the primer pocket will not hold a primer. I'm up to 8 loads on Lapua with the same load. I also get lower SD and ES with the Lapua, but that may also just be brass quality.
Hardly a fair representation. My SRP Lapua brass lasts much much longer than LRP Hornady brass. I get 3-4 loads out of Hornady before the primer pocket will not hold a primer. One issue some have had is unreliable ignition in cold temperatures. I have not experience that with Federal 205M, even down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
