I live 10 miles from the KAC retail store, have been there 3 times. 1st time to just check it out. 2nd time to buy an EMC, no luck, none available. 3rd time to buy an SR-15, none in stock! KAC's retail store, didn't have any SR-15's in stock. Wow.
Had done the call in, started the yellow sheet, some short dude with a mustache said that they would have one next day. Next day, no call, so bought one off GB.
Paid LESS than their store with FL sales tax. Little mustache dude called at end of week, my hero. Too late.
I realize that local retail isn't where KAC's focus is, but $7k+ in addition to other future sales...
I can buy 2 LMT MWS's for 1 EMC. There is like zero difference in practical accuracy.
Have shot both, carried both around for a day or two. Actually liked the SR-25 rifle better than EMC, didn't feel muzzle heavy or too long with the 20" barrel. I like the feel of the SR-25 better than my buddy's OBR, which shoots bug holes. Yes you get the diff. back in resale, and I would rather have the SR-25. Unfortunately, will prob. be purchased off of GB, not Reed's retail store. KAC is tier one stuff, but...

So far, only one person has referenced what they shoot out of it to get the sub MOA groups as Kevin said it was capable of. Judging by your contentious commentary I am guessing you own one so why don't you tell us what you shoot out of it, how you have it set up or what kind of results you get out of it for it's designated purpose?

Not that I picked up on this info being germane to this thread but if I can lend any information about my experiences - these are the rounds which I have been able to shoot sub-MOA out of a SR-25 LWM and/or an EMC:
Hornandy 168gr Match
Hornandy 168gr A-max match (note this ammo shot much worse when I suppressed the 20" SR-25 - best I could do was 1.5" to 2", only ammo with a major difference like that)
M118LR
Federal 168gr GMM
Federal 175gr GMM
Federal 175gr - marked 7.62x51 (This is real close to being sub-MOA. I would say it averaged at the 1" range with a couple groups in the .85 - 9" range)
Winchester 168gr Match
Remington 168gr Match

My best handloads for it use 175gr SMK and 44.5gr Varget - by far my most accurate loads. Best group I've ever shot was .55" but I can usually get around .75" with it.

Overall, I would be comfortable to say that my 20" and EMC would be 3/4 to just under 1 MOA guns.

very close to the load i worked up for the MK11, about the same with the QD MOD O suppressor, most of time its about an MOA rifle, although it does have its days.

Now do you think I give two batshits on how much they spend on a Weapon system? NO. Do I take care of my issued stuff as much as my DPMS at home? Hell no, it gets thrown in an MRAP and thats the end of that. No worries. With a plate carrier and kevlar on am I going to be able to engage a target jacked on adrenaline as well as my calm self on a range at home on leave? Nope. Am I Going to fire a second, third or fourth shot If i Miss... You better believe it.

But if for private sales should Knight Armco. lower pricing sure, but for Military there is a lot of other places to cut costs first.

Yes you may be able to get a more accurate rifle from a true custom shop, it may even be cheaper.

However from us you will get a subMOA rifle (with good ammo, optic, mount and shooter) and a rifle that parts will last and are designed for a military environment.

And to add insult to injury the soap box mentality over at KAC wont even sell me an 850 dollar BC if I wanted it. They wont ship to my state.

By the way my MWS came with a KAC carrier and had to be replaced.

Add the above insult to the fact that as a taxpayer I am paying for the overpriced Gucci rifles.

We will offer repair services on any (legally) acquired KAC/KMC weapon system regarding of age, we will offer warantee services on any weapon, with free inspection of the system, and a list of recommended replacements, depending on age of the system, and if the system has been used in accordance with the user instruction, it will either be a no cost repair, or a repair at cost, which the customer would have the option of not opting for.

As to Costs. We make no claim to make the cheapest system, just the best for the military environment.
Its a free country, and your welcome to vote with your wallets and not buy our system commercially.

Materials, generally we use specific materials in the bolt and various other places, that are bought with a specific criteria, that are manaufactured in such a way to be defect free.
Contract Personnel, Shipping and Accounting folks (there are a variety of shipping and billing method to be used in govenment contracts) QA, Government QAR inspections, and government holding rooms (once the weapon has passed acceptance criteria it is now a USG weapon, and has to be held in a different room, with specific access etc).
UID coding -- the little annoying info code that are $450 + each and serialized to specific weapons.
For Non SOCOM weapons, the Bolt is proof fired and inspected.
Lot Acceptance - in every LOT a weapon is taken and fired for 5,000-6,600 rounds (depends on entity) in a specific manner, and inspected every 1,000 rds for wear, as well as all the targets need to be scored and evaluated.
For SOCOM weapons, sometime the LOT's are 100% inspected as such then for a few days the entire ranges are down just for this, and multiple KAC personnel are involved in supporting these tests.

Government Contracts are not nice neat little things. There is a whole lot of infrastructure that is required to support them, so you need to lump salaries for 15-20 personnel on top of the people who build, test and clean the weapons, the parts etc. Then your a DoD Contract site and the security requirements that go along with that.

I'm sorry I did not answer the questions faster, but I do have a job and I have been answering government requirments that sit a little higher on my priority list than explaining a private companies pricing on a government contract.

If anyone wants to put their money where their mouth is, please form a gun company and compete against us. The government selects the best value (in most cases) to any sucessful competitor. So the answer would be, either we have been the lowest bidding sucessful candidate, or the only only sucessful candidate.

LRI i've seen KAC barrels on mk11's shoot out after 1500 rounds, i won't get into it in this thread, kevin and I have talked offline. more power to him for taking the time to post in this thread. he does have a lot of bigger fish to fry then people wanting to buy a 7k dollar system just so it can sit in their safe and collect dust and play internet commando.

You guys can buy anything you want and KAC seems to do just fine for themselves regardless of any issues. Cuz there will always be people who want to be like tier 1 and have the money. Buy it or don't just shut the fuck up.

That wasn't my point, Big Joe. I was talking about folks implying that chrome lined barrels can't shoot.

Since this is a big unmoderated KAC bash fest, did the shot out barrels get cleaned with anything other than CLP and did KAC take care of the problem?

Having shot KACs I have no complaints about accuracy of the system. Maybe I have been lucky but the ones I have shot have been sub moa.

As to Kevin. I have known him over a decade and he has always been GTG and earned a job with KAC having been an Operator before. Great guy you can trust.

As to KACs prices. Dang they make the rifles. Buy all the additional parts, put them all together for Uncle Sam, send them off and then wait 6 months to a year to get paid for everything they paid for and or made. The items they include but dont make they have to pay up front for and then wait all that time to get paid back. They pay thier workers every two weeks so KAC is on hook for all that money by the time they get paid. Heck Banks would raise prices more to cover you for that long.

You can not compare a military contractors prices with a pay up front shop

Wow, so since I would like to own a KAC rifle even though I am just a normal everyday Sailor I am now an internet commando and a mall ninja right? I think you are right if you don't agree with the cost then don't buy one, but I don't think you need to drag down those that own one or that do want to own one.

Kevin everything you said makes sense minus the statement above. Your company may be private but the second you entered a contract to fill a DoD order you answer to the US Government which is still the people. You're not obligated to answer on a forum or justify anything to anyone here, but if you do there's no point in getting bent by a question that I'm sure is asked often on a weapon system that is considerably higher in price. If you feel you're company is above explanation or the private consumer then why bother responding at all? Just because we aren't as big as a DoD order doesn't make us less important as possible customers...

You either fail at reading comprehension or you didn't read what he wrote. He said he had real priorities to take care of for his job. You know, putting food on the table? He didn't say he wouldn't answer, he stated why his answer took as long as it did.

As already pointed out, there's a wealth of things in a US Gov't contract that account for extra costs. Ever wonder how many spare parts have to be ready, on hand for the life of the weapon? On site assistance when the problems are above the pay grade of the unit armorers? Cost of keeping the manufacturing space ISO certified as per gov't requirements?

Selling to the US gov't is not the same as plunking down your credit card and walking out with a weapon. Contract negotiations take months and sometimes years. Everything has to be accounted for.

It probably wouldn't be that hard to learn more about the contract using.....Google but instead, we can all whine at Kevin for not ignoring his day job to answer our important questions that are keeping folks from buying a KAC rifle.

Your mil.spec eyes missed my point. I do like Knight, like Knight products, will continue to do so in the future. As to my shooting habits and shooting knowledge, please don't make assumptions.
I know for a sad fact that I send more rounds downrange each month than MOST
military personnel.
If this thread isn't to your liking, my advice is to stay on cruise at your rarefied .mil flight level. The only diff between you and me, Uncle Sam signs your check. You put your pants on, one leg at a time.
Out of SR-15's at their retail store, that's pretty goofy. Oh wait, they all went to the 75th Rangers.
I'll say it again, I like Knight Arm. Corp. products. You missed the point.

my point was that the complaints are valid, if you have the money and haven't had problems with em more power to ya. I won't buy a knights product. I'm no super secret squirrel but can say i have a few rounds through Knights products, i'm 99 percent sure i have more time behind knights guns then most knights owners. There is a diference between military members and civilians in that we carry our guns in places other then a one way range. The life isn't for everybody and i make no statements that military members are anyway better then anyone else BUT it give them/us a diferent perspective on whats important. Its the same reason people pay so much to take all the tactical courses from people like grey group, larry vickers, pat rogers, etc.

If Kevin takes care of ya and their customer service is on par then awesome. They make some cool looking stuff. And honestly my interaction with kevin has been positive and he is just trying to do his job.

I'm not sure why anyone would be out of stock on SR-15's (sorry I missed this earlier) unless they sold out and did not order more.

As for retail store - you mean Lawmen's? L&S is a different entity (still owned by the Knight's) so they may not have ordered any. I have no interaction with L&S in Vero, so I have no idea how they operate.


My tone was not meant to be snotty, I was just trying to explain some of the different aspects that add costing into a Military weapon.

We've dropped the price on a number of systems as we've been able to manufacturer some items more efficiently due to the volume we are having to produce.

Yeah quality has a price but if a citizen has a problem with the cost of something the government is paying for then blame the government not the company selling the stuff to them.

Ok, I stoppped by the range after work today to zero a sight in for a comp this weekend and I decided to fire a couple groups with my EMC at 100 yards.

These are pretty good for this ammo. I tried to get the box in the pics - I know the pic sucks, but thats the best I can do for now. If I get some time I will try to load the target pic with On Target, but with my mic I should be pretty damn close, in the .8 to .85 range - which again is good for this ammo in my rifles. So yes, it is a sub MOA rifle.

With that scope, 100 yards, I wouldn't be too disappointed in those groups out of a semi 7.62

post_tensioned, how were you loading the first round in the mag? Charging handle or bolt release? I believe that using the bolt release can alleviate that flier if it's a first round flier.

I used the bolt released to load the rounds. The group on the left includes the cold bore shot, the one on the right - well that was just me. I'm not the best bench/ group shooter, but with this ammo, a 6x scope, bipod and shooting sock and my abilities, this isn't bad.

0-500 yrds, the EMC will keep up with the EMR. With factory ammo easily
shoots < 1.0".

When I think of the $5000-8000 AR, I think of that Eddie Murphy movie where the two rich guys make a bet in the bathroom for a dollar that they could make him rich and Dan Akroyd poor.

I think that surely someone is laughing their ass off that they got people to pay that much on a 60 year old platform with no real groundbreaking design improvements. Somewhere, someone has one a dollar and bragging rights.... Lol

Why don't you show us something groundbreaking with the reliability and accuracy of an AR?

Actually, Mr. Knight (KAC) invented & designed the picatinny (RIS/RAS) rail that has become "ground breaking" for:

First and foremost, "our military"
Secondly, the "entire" AR commercial market
