    All,

I was hoping I might garner some of you all's insight and experience on this one.

Recently, I allowed someone to use a rifle I have that is outfitted with a SWFA SS 10x42M sidefocus scope. At any rate, a few months went by, before I took that particular rig out again, and upon doing so, was shooting groups all over the place. As I looked through the scope, I picked up that the reticle was wandering all over the place as I moved my head. So, I went to set the parallax/side focus to the correct setting and noticed someone had dorked with the settings. I think the person loosened up the knob/removed the knob "to tweak the parallax" and threw the whole thing out of whack.

Does anyone know the process of setting the damned thing back to factory settings? I think I may have it close, after rotating the peg a few times till it flipped to what seemed close (at least the wobble is smaller has I move my head around on a KD target to see if the reticle is shifting).

Anyone know if there is a count off process? Something like, "Rotate it this many times, til it stops, then count this many revolutions to get it back to factory close settings"?

Appreciate any help (if need be I'll contact SWFA, but wanted to check if anyone knew before I bothered them). I guess I forgot that lessen of "Never let anyone mess with the dope on your weapon". Grrrr....

Indexing the dial is no problem but most likely he attempted to unscrew the built in sunshade that is not supposed to be unscrewed as it is actually attached to the objective lens assembly. When someone does this it moves the location of the obj lens which changes the distance between it and the parallax adjusting lens which causes major parallax issues.

We'd be glad to check it out and fix it properly. Please send to:

Just a follow up to this thread and a BIG THUMBS UP for Chris and crew at SWFA!

I got a call yesterday, saying they received the scope. David said that unfortunately they could not fix the scope, and that it would have to go back to the factory in Japan. That being the case he said, "We'll just send you a new one; is that okay?".

This alone is outstanding service in my book. No fuss, no muss; just fix the problem, and as quickly as possible. A shooter/consumer couldn't ask for better service than this.

    Now the kicker...

After I told David that a replacement was fine, and that it was very generous of them as it precluded conflicts with a PD trip I have planned in a few weeks, SWFA stunned me with the other offer. David said, "Well, since the price is the same, would prefer a mil/mil-quad version of this scope instead of the mil/moa scope you sent in?". "Uh...sure, that would be great!"

I recently ordered another mil/moa scope version of the scope mainly because the mil/mil was still a few weeks out from being in stock. I think it was incredibly generous of SWFA to offer this, and my hat goes off to them. First class service, above and beyond in anyone's book!

SWFA, you can look for another order from me later this fall on another of these type of scopes, as this kind of service has won my business with you.

Again, hats off to SWFA on stellar customer service!

    Kudos and BZ!

No doubt. I had been toying with the idea of getting another Leupold Mk4, but not now...

This is the second time SWFA has done something like this for me. I had (and still do) an older Tasco SS 6x42 (bought in the 90's) on a 700 that I dropped...on the scope, which bent the objective bell. Called them up, explained the accident and inquired about what I'd have to pay to have it fixed (if at all possible). SWFA just said to send it in...

I had a replacement scope back on my rifle a week later. This was maybe 10 yrs ago.

Nice to see things haven't changed a bit.

LOL! You learned something some of us have known for years! I don't know if it was CF I or CFII who helped you, but it doesn't matter, it could have been either. The outcome was known been for you started. Bravo Zulu SWFA!

Yup, did exactly that on my 10x42 SS trying to clean the objective lense and backed out the lense just enough to f*** everything up. SWFA had me send it back and took care of MY screw up no ?'s asked. Thank god for good CS.

Re: SS 10x42M SF screw up...Reset Parallax?

I've heard some good things about SWFA and I've been thinking about getting a fixed 10x or 12x for my 223. I'll be looking pretty hard at SWFA after reading threads like this.

I just ordered a 10x42 for my Dad because of this thread and because of how awesome my 5-20x50 is.

Thanks SWFA for all you do.

After reading this, my next scope purchase will be a SS. I wish SWFA made AC units! That would have saved me several $$$ this weekend!
