Most of you still just aren't getting it. I have explained this tjoroughly sans pictures. Yes, the scope will track properly with click values. Just stating the fact that the splines that mate the cap to the turret have the wrong amount of splines to allow perfect alignment of the cap lines to the zero line on the scope body. Loosen the screw, pivot the cap a few splines at a time and eventually you'll find a spot where the lines WILL align perfectly with the indicator on the scope body.

Thread pitch has no bearing on the situation here. "T" was just having some fun.

And to those who don't "get it", this is not dogging on the scope. Don't let it bother you unless you are anal.

But it is dogging the scope and the company by negatively impacting the impression people are giving others as with the recent "impressions" where the writers state as much.

In post after post this is related a highly negative aspect of the product to be avoided in the future. Instead of saying it doesn't affect downrange accuracy, tracking, click value, etc.

Maybe you need to read what is written and the conclusions being centered around this...

The number of clicks and splines mean nothing.

If it takes the knob 60 clicks to make a turn it will always take 60 clicks to make a turn and as long as the etching is correct on a knob it will line up.

Now if the etching is done incorrectly it wont line up ever.

So if you have a scope whos lines dont line up I suggest sending back o SWFA for a fix. Its not a problem with design.

Now of course if we had gears and not one to one splines the numbers would matter but this is not the case.

As to number of splines, the higher the number the finer the clicks and less feel you will probably get. That was problem with original Premieres when they had to fine of clicks so some folks hated them ( not me). Some of the SWFA scopes mushyness is the over sized O Rings they put in for extra water tight protection. Down size O rings and clicks feel like a well made safe

And lowlight, you have a point, which is why in most of my posts I sing praise for the scope. I don't care about the alignment of marks. I just feel compelled to explain what the reasoning behind it is.

Well then explain yourself a bit better. What is difference in total degrees traveled, if I divide 360 degrees by 60, 100 or 20? One complete turn is one complete turn. 360 degrees is 360 degees.

The knob and inner turret assembly are one unit and move same distance no matter how many clicks it takes to get there. No math requirred and folks are making this far more complicated than it needs to be. Math only comes in if it becomes a gear drive or number of of splines is different from inside cap

If you turn knob and fifth turn up clicks that aligned at one turn no longer align its from stacking of tollerences and my scope does not exhibit that problem.

You are simply explaining the negative in greater detail, none of which is taken so simply as moving the scope .1 either up or down where it will line up.

The constant posts, "explaining" it only reinforce others to look for it, find it, and complain about it publicly in post after post.

The reality is, I will take any scope with the purported "error" / "misalignment" and give Wounded Warriors $500 if I can't re-zero it and align it properly with an actual shot zero on paper that falls within the accuracy of the rifle to center of a 1" Pasty. I will be within .36 of center in any direction and align it or my money goes to charity. This is the reality of it...

I wrote this because, as I said in the very beginning, I was hearing a very common complaint about the lines not being lined up. It's in almost every review. Once I realized why this was happening, and that it wasn't a flaw, I figures it might be nice for people to have an explination as to why. I never realized such a simple concept would be so difficult to grasp...I mean c'mon...I wonder if some of you people can even change a light bulb. I thought you might even make a sticky out of it, Frank, so people wouldn't continue making negative comments, but no. I haven't heard anyone in this thread bash the scope becuause of this, or say anything negative except you. You're the one doing all the arguing and putting the negative spin in this. Why can't you just let people come to their own conclusions?

</div></div>It's when you remove the knob and re-zero, or re-position it where the problem exists. 60 splines on the shaft, 100 marks on the knob. One index line. 6 degrees per spline, 3.6 degrees per mark. Move one spline (not one click), move 6 degrees, not 3.6 degrees.
How hard is that to understand?

It would probably be even less than .36" since the worse of the "problem" scopes I have seen photos of are only half of a 1/10 mil off so more like .18" off zero.

It is not a gear and as long as the outside of the turret is eteched correctly this wont change a thing.

Like I said its either incorrectly etched turret or stacking of tollerences and mine shows neither. That does not mean yours wont show it. I did not attack what you said only that the reasons given are not correct. The outer side side of turret could be eteched in months and as long as correctly done would always align.

Not one person chimed in to say that video still was off center it is NOT and I showed the images... Look at the link I post and what "off" looks like and like at the image I took Saturday Night where I showed you "off" my scope. Now there is a sliding scale of Off ...that doesn't fit your 60 degree model that mine is off a hair and someone else's is off .05 mils ... sorry you're lying.

You can clearly see the camera is at an angle to the scope... clearly and the lines are lining up, and only the illusion of the camera angle is giving you can appearance of what you say is off, I say it is not...

I even backed up the images with direct shots of my scope Saturday Night, clearly not off, and the one that was, was the simple slack in the turret, I can actually move it square again, the cap wasn't even tightened because you were asking me to move it around, which I did, posted and it was still on.

In the thread I deleted people laughed at you because I did everything you asked with Pictures and it was still square.

You're full it, trying to make a name for yourself.

Not a single person agreed with you my still shots were off... not one.

But since you seem to need validation, YES, the reason the lines are slightly staggered on both windage and elevation is because they are on different planes, different distances from the camera and the camera is at a slight angle. Had the shot been taken from straight on then it certainly appears that they would have seemed to be a single solid line. Your two pictures look nothing like SC's (or whoever's that is.)

I have 3 of them, I really can't remember if all the lines line up or not, I think at least 1 is off, maybe 2 now that I moved it to a different rifle. My Hensoldts have had the same issue, sucks that it's not an easy fix, but oh well.

I'll let you in on my secret....I zero it so that the line lines up between 0 and .1 mil, so call it .05 mil. Then, if I'm dialing 3 mils, I turn the knob so that it's at 3.05.....clever, aren't I!

It's really not rocket science. I could bitch, send scopes back, post my frustrations on the internet, etc etc. However, I've come to realize one thing, I've never missed a target because of the lines on my scope not making zen like harmonious touching alignment. I missed because I F'd up my fundamentals, the wind blew, I ranged the target wrong or the shooting Gods simply hated me for that split second.

If everyone would spend more time shooting and less time bitching.....well you know.

Wow, I never thought this would be such an issue after owning a $3000 S&B that never lined up no matter what I did (the SS lines up pretty well most of the time). I guess I was too happy with all the other qualities of the scope (which far, far exceed the price paid in the GP IMHO) I paid little notice to it.

Anyway, just out of habit since my S&B zero was off to the left of the mark, whenever there's misalignment with the SS I make sure it's to the left of the mark, that also "looks" lined up more for a right handed shooter when looking at the turret from an angle. But really it's not something I spent more than a few seconds thinking about.

For those who want it to line up exactly and who's zeros happen to fall on one of the marks with the worst misalignment, take Frank's suggestion and change your zero by one click. I use dope cards for quick reference and Shooter for the long precision stuff. Shooter (as well as most modern programs) has an input just for that. I use it a lot when using multiple types of ammo so I don’t have to mess with the scope (for a lot bigger differences than .36”) when I switch back and forth. When you're actually out in the field doing something with the rifle instead of group shooting at 100 yds, you will forget all about it.

Of course if it’s a dealbreaker for some, it’s a free country. But when you can sell the damn thing in the classifieds and actually <span style="font-weight: bold">make money</span> on the deal, bitching about things is not warranted. In my opinion, at least.

Got mine mounted up and took it out Friday for the first time. 2 Shots to zero 1 to confirm. Gotta love Matching turrets.

Did a box test 10 Mils Elevation and 5 Mils windage. It was DEAD F**KING NUTS. Return to zero on test was 1/2" low (my fault not the scopes I rushed the shot)

Now do my lines match up? not exactly.Better question do I care? F**K NO! This scope KICKS ASS.

Now as you can see in the picture the yardage is off. Damn I better start a thread bitching about that.

This doesn't solve the alignment problem on my scope. To confirm your advice, I just reset my turret +/- .1 and .2 mils and they still fall in the middle or near to it. It is what it is, but it's not accurate to say it's fixed by simply rotating the turret to a new position. Some scopes may have a legitimate issue, which I think mine does.

UPDATE: I've contacted SWFA about the mis-aligned turrets asking for advice on how to fix this issue, and they offered an exchange because mine is outside of normal adjustment. Since they don't have any more SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD scopes coming until September, I asked to wait until all orders were filled before we exchange the scope. They agreed.

Hate to say this because you'll surely disagree with me, you should have contacted SWFA first to ask about it before posting this about them.

Not giving them a chance to respond is really poor form. That is my personal opinion and after all this you can take it for what it is worth...

But as "reviewer" I always give the company a chance to respond before running my thoughts across the internet. How they respond to potential problem is every bit as important to a lot of people. Things happen, clearly as demonstrated by many on here, not just with this scope but with any mechanical device. Which is why people value customer support.

It's your scope you can do and say what you want, but I believe it poor form to post first and call later.

Not a big fat deal IMNSHO.

1. 60 splines for 100 hash marks results in the regular mis-alignment that our friend from Hanover was kind enough to illustrate. He's one of the smart ones whom I trust.

2. LL is apparently better in both critical thinking and practical thinking than some of us. This is such a minor point it's laughable that so much energy has been devoted to it. See point #3 below.

3. The best and simplest fix is to NOT worry so friggin' much about a half-mark offset, NOT worry about getting a differently-etched turrent, and NOT bother the manufacturer about what I myself consider a terrifically minor design compromise = inconsequential design defect: MOVE THE INDEX HASHMARK. There is only one of those. It's on the scope. Put a line on a piece of sticky-label, laminate it, put it right under YOUR turret's zero hashmark, and quit your whining!

And if you re-zero back to where the original index hashmark is now back "on" or close enough for your tastes, all you have to do is remove the turret and scrape your label off.

Consider that this comes from a borderline OCD guy whose first task every couple of mornings on one job was making a test cut on the table saw, and then using the screwdriver to calibrate the ruler on the table/fence unit so I could just use that accurately. That was making cabinets as well as the crates to ship them. If you don't know why tape measures have 1/16-inch slop in the little hook at the "zero" point, you may never understand.

You gotta be smarter than the tool.

LL: I think it's time to close this thread. There are enough potential solutions posted and there's really nothing more to say except for the less-sharp and more-whiny to just dig their holes deeper.
