Alright, yes I am lucky enough to have one in hand, an actual production model not the prototypes that Jon and Frank were given. Less than a handful were air'd in from Japan for inspection as the others are on the way, one of these few was overnighted to me and I received it this morning. This long story short started several weeks ago when I was talking to Brady about the new scope, all the talk of no zero stop and other lame reasons not to buy one got me thinking. I'd like to shoot one of these new scopes in a competition, a big one at that. So on June 11th and 12th I plan on representing Team SWFA by shooting the SWFA SS 5-20 HD in the Oregon Snipers Challenge. Wish me luck.

First impressions are all very good, I have a limited time behind the scope but I have to say that the eye box, as Frank stated, is very nice. Is it Hensoldt nice....well not quite....but I can say for sure that I think it's better than the Bushnell HDMR and the Vortex Razor HD that I owned. Now I've been spoiled by shooting more than my fair share of Hensoldt's so it's not unusual for me to look through other scopes and be quickly unimpressed. That was not the case with this scope, without a doubt it's going to be a hit. I'll do a much more in depth review as I shoot it more over the next 3 days, but feel free to ask any questions you'd like. One interesting note is that the clicks are better than my Hensoldt!

I'm going to post the pictures on Facebook.com for the most part, you shouldn't have to be a member to see them so don't worry. If you are a member there please do me a favor and "Like" my page. It's a long story, but I'm trying to do more for the shooting sports, so I've got a new website and FB page in the works.

Again, please "Like" the page:

I hope the tampons didn't get hijacked. Also hope the tampons make it here to stop the bleeding vaginas or bleeding ass holes!

Hey Rose, ban yourself, Jason is Top Mod around here when it comes to Comps, between him and Rob01 leading the way, the others are falling far short of standard.

ps, I understand I will have a production model tomorrow, the rest of you not so lucky Discuss among yourselves.

After messing with my 1-4 HD SS mil/mil I don't think that will ever go to MOA/MOA again. It's to damn easy to use instead of moa. Well this is for me anyways.

Definitely want to hear more. Your initial comments are promising of another quality SS product.

Like the picture by the way. Humorous.

Re: SS 5-20x50 HD is in hand and it went to the range!

hello jason. just wanting a head's up on what brand that mount is. i probably can't utilize it, but just for curiosity's sake. i have an ar-10t and i'll probably need something with a bit of cantilever to it. basically i'm undecided between the aadmount one piece ar mount or the bobro cantilever quick release, though i don't plan to run without any backup sights.

i like the aadmount except for the height. wished it was a wee bit lower toward the bore. but it does incorporate 20moa where as the bobro does not. i've been debating this for a couple of weeks now.

It's an Accuracy International 18moa Picatinny Rail mount, should work fine on a flat top AR10.

Re: SS 5-20x50 HD is in hand and it went to the range!

This is some of the best marketing hype that I've seen in a while . So much so , that even though I'm not the kind of guy that would plunk down a decent amount of cheddar on a scope I've never peered through ... I did . Looking forward to your more in depth review on the true production model . Hope its all that and a bag of donuts

Re: SS 5-20x50 HD is in hand and it went to the range!

. I'm too broke to do that. Especially with another baby on the way

Re: SS 5-20x50 HD is in hand ... New Pictures are

To the gentlemen that have a production model in hand, I need a favor if you could please help me out. Is there any chance that I could get a accurate measurement of the O.D. of the objective end of the scope?

I have an XLR chassis and it's a little sensitive to ring height and I'd really like to know if my NF ultralights will work before my scope gets here.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: SS 5-20x50 HD is in hand ... New Pictures are

This is from another thread in here as well as over at SWFA's forum.

SS 5-20x50mm
Eyepiece OD: 44.11mm / 1.736"
Objective OD: 60.00mm / 2.362"

Re: SS 5-20x50 HD is in hand ... New Pictures are

This is my first post, so hello to all. I want to keep it simple, so my question for those who have recieved the production scope is: can I buy a better scope for 1k based on the glass? Thanks in advance.

I will be better able to answer this tomorrow, but all indications are good for this scope being a great $1k value.

That's by far the biggest PITA with the XLR, I'm using AI mounts on mine for the Hensoldt, the 30mm one should work with the SS but it's an 18moa mount, so a 20moa base and 18moa mount "might" work out. I can test it for you in about a week, I've got a comp coming up and I'm not moving scopes around right now.

JasonK, no need to remove the scope for me. If you had a micrometer around a simple measurement around the outside bell of the objective would work.

I'm have an EGW 20 moa base and NF 1.0" height rings, With my SS 10x HD there was about 8mm of clearnance IIRC. If I'm thinking correctly the added objective diameter (50mm rather than 40mm) will lower the bell half of the increased measurement.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Re: SS 5-20x50 HD is in hand ... New Pictures are

Ok so these SS scopes- do a lot of people use them? and can anyone tell me about the quality of the glass? is it Japanese? just a quick summary would help if anyone knows about them. thanks
