I just received my Steiner MX5i ffrom EuroOptic and the box was sealed but the top turret was loose in the box. I believe the two screws that hold the cap on were backed out allowing our gentle UPS delivery company to allow the cap to come off and the outer indicator ring, the one with lower numbers. I tried call Steiner and have been on hold the first time for almost 2 hours before being disconnected. I am currently on hold and it has been a hour, and can not stand companies that have customer service like this. My question is I put the scope back together and when I dial past the first rotation the clicks get extremely difficult for the 2 mils or 20 clicks but go back to being fine after that. I was wondering if that seems normal or does this need to go back to EuroOptic

From the manual.

Zeroing elevation knob

It is recommended not to remove
the elevation adjustment knob! If the knob is
removed, it is possible to rotate the Rotation
Indicator actuator, which controls the eleva-
tion rotation indicator pin,to a position which
will prevent
full rotation of
the knob when
reinstalled.
If the knob
locks up in the
middle of the
two turns, the
Rotation Indi-
cator actuator
is out of position. When this occurs, return the
knob to 260, loosen the set screws and remove
the cap exposing the actuator. Rotate the ac-
tuator fully counter-clockwise until it stops
against the adjacent plate. The Rotation Indi-
cator pin will be retracted.

Reinstall the
knob and keep
in mind to po-
sition the two
screws at 3
and 6 o’clock.
Press the knob
firmly against
the air resis-
tance on the scope and tighten the screws
again

There is definitely a bit more effort at the beginning of the second turn, but it is not anywhere near to “extremely difficult”. At least on my model G2B.

Btw, the Steiner support phone system allows you to press 1 to have them call you, and save your turn in the queue - it worked for me.

Thank You, I was able to get it back together and it seems to be rotating the full 26 mils. I am concerned at 13-15 mils the dial turns much firm than the other 24 mils but it does make the two rotations. I am not worried about EuroOptic. because they are amazing. Steiner on the other hand and not being able to make contact is concerning. Frustrating day.

After the long wait and being disconneted, I left my number and in four hours still no reply. Called back and remained on hold til seven and was disconnected due to them closing, i believe that was the reason. Just frustrating getting a new toy and after sevens hours no anwsers. I done Bitching lol

Maaaan, I feel the pain! At least you can still laugh ;)

On my M5xi, the same thing happens just before/going into the second rev, when the little sleeve pulls itself up into the turret cap. It's normal to feel a little extra resistance there in comparison to the rest of the clicks, but I'm not sure how much resistance you're experiencing.

The first five starting at 13 are slightly harder. 14-14.5 mils are 2.5-3x more stiff than normal clicks. The biggest problem is I love the scope and really want to throw on my shorty 6.5 creedmoor. It sucks not being able to get hold of the manufacture and I dont want to mount it to the rifle and put EuroOptic in a tough position.

I think you're ok based on what you wrote. Mine does pretty much exactly the same as yours. Slightly harder clicks from 13 to 14, and noticeably harder clicks from 14 to 14.5, and after that they go back to normal.

Remember, it's going to feel a little tougher in your hand than it will on the gun, and after a while of using it I've found the turrets break in a bit. I can make a video for you if you want.

Steiner customer service in my experience is absolute shit. I've left messages, put my call in the que to call me back and I never once got a call back. The only time I ever got a response was starting a ticket on the website and getting a call that way from "Chris".

Even the repair time estimates on the website aren't even close to accurate. I waited double the time estimated several times on scopes I either personally delivered or sent in for repairs.

I've had a mixed bag with them. I've waited for days and never gotten a call back, but today I put myself in the phone wait queue and got a call back in about 30 minutes.

I'm pretty sure they share a phone system with the Burris tech support guys, so that probably doesn't help.

Being that I worked there (Burris) when Steiner was acquired by Beretta and became associated with Burris I never saw the CS or repair dept as bad as it is now. My best friend was the repair manager there until a few years ago and after he left everything fell apart.

Sad to hear. I've found it kind of funny that there's 10 Burris team shooters for every 1 guy sponsored by Steiner here in CO despite them both being in Greeley.

Shitty, because I do really like their products otherwise.
