Looking to step up from my current scope quaity. I'm debating on buying either a used Steiner Military 4-16x50 or a new Steiner PX4i 4-16x56. This will be going on an AR chambered in 6mm ARC.

I can get both scopes for about the same price. Of these two, which would you recommend and why?

Which reticle do you like better?

I had the Military 4-16, and currently own the P4Xi.

I liked the G2b reticle for its simplicity, and the SCR reticle is also nice, just a bit harder for me to get familiar with.

Glass is about the same for both, durability is about the same as well, and the turrets on the Military I thought were better as far as feel. They both track great.

The only reason I don't have the M 4-16 anymore is because Steiner replaced it with a T5Xi 5-25, and I'm not happy with this scope at all.

Yea if anything they should have replaced it with a M5-25, but that's the kinda shitty CS you expect from them. I would have been PISSED.
Sorry for thread drift, but you really have to give Vortex props for ushering in a new level of CS and warranty.

Whilst a good warranty isn't the number one thing to look for in a rifle scope, it is worth considering when you get BS like this still happening.

Wow, thank you for the replies. One positive review for the older military scopes but not much love for the newer stuff. I didn't realize that so many people had complaints about them. I always thought they made high quality scope with exceptional glass.

Good Glass is just one piece of the pie to factor in. At the time, the Military scopes were a good bargain. Now, they are outdated with not so great reticles and for a similar price you can grab a used razor or something else. The bad CS is just another reason to look elsewhere.

My M7Xi is great. I don't think the MSR 2 is outdated. I prefer it over the MR4 in my Minox, but many would disagree on which they prefer.

The glass (and everything else) on the M7Xi is a big improvement over the M5Xi I had. It's a great scope and it's relatively short. CA is minimal on the M7Xi.

Go Military 4-16x50. Better turrets, probably has higher quality internals. Mine was mechanically very good. The DOF was a little shallow though.

I don't know if they can still repair the older scopes. But yes, if there is a replacement in order they will probably ask for money to "upgrade".

I asked for it to be replaced with an M5Xi and they wouldn't do it. Not even the 3-15.

I'm not sure you know what you're talking about.

The Military 4-16x50 is a completely different line of scopes than the M5 series.

You can't buy a used Razor 2 for less than $1k like you can the 4-16, and the P4Xi can be had for around $800. Both scopes are very nice in that price range.
Know exactly what I'm talking about. The point that seems to be lost on you is if a product is no longer made and needs a replacement, it should be upgraded not downgraded. That's terrible customer service and would keep me from buying any of their shit again ( owned a few 3-12/4-16M)

Wasn't lost on me. You're the one who keeps spouting off about shit you know nothing about in virtually every post you've made in your short time here.

I explained why they replaced the scope with a T5. I wasn't happy about it but it beats a broken scope that is worth nothing. What do you suppose I should have done, argue with them until they tell me to fuck off, or give me a replacement?

You sound mad, go get some fresh air sweetheart.

When you buy a premium product from a company with a lifetime warranty, you expect that level of performance throughout the products life cycle. Not a downgraded piece of shit which is another reason to never buy Burris/Steiner.

I never said you should do anything else, you are the one getting asshurt and being a dick over nothing. In fact I never even addressed you till you started talking shit. Prove where anything I said was wrong or STFU. I guarantee I have owned more of these optics than you have.

You are missing the whole point of the thred which is dude was asking about stiener scopes so people shared their experiences and opinions. You think you are the only one who has owned these?

And every point I was made was correct. Instead of being a petty child dragging shit from thread to thread let's stay on the topic at hand. If you got a problem with something I said, take it to PM's like a man or suck it up.

I have the P4Xi. I think it's the best sub $1k scope on the market. I only notice CA on white target edges like steel plates or sheets of paper. It's not in your face CA, but it is there if you know what to look for. It doesn't bother me personally.

The turrets take some time to loosen up. They are very tight from the factory, but they feel perfect now. The only other optic I would switch to is a Mk5 5-25 for more magnification. I actually like my P4Xi better than my buddies Mk5 3-18. The glass was better in the Mk5 in that the colors popped, but the FOV on that optic is just too small for my personal taste. Even with the glass difference, I would go with the P4Xi due to FOV.

I used to have a Kahles K624i, and it was a nice scope. I just didn't think it was worth it. The P4 has fit my needs thus far. Resale value is probably next to nothing since they are cheap to begin with, so if that matters to you then pick something else.

you gunna go outside and monkey dance for him? What a doosh.

Thank you all for your opinions and advice.
of these two I went with the older military 4-16. The comments made above about the internals being possibly more robust helped me make my decision.

I know there are plenty of other options like you all suggested and I will pursue those in the future when I get some more money. I hope to one day get the opportunity to look through and shoot with a S&B. As of now the best glass I have is an older Leupold Mark4 Spotter and Athlon Helos and Ares scopes. The Athlons were a huge step up for me. I could not afford anything more

Good choice, and you can always sell it to help you upgrade. Whether you get a PM II, M7Xi, Minox, or ZCO... you'll wonder if you should have just spent the extra money on ammo :)

At least that's what I do when I miss.

I had nothing but good results with Steiner's warranty. My T5Xi had some parallax/ focus issues in the 100y and under range. Nothing that stopped me from using it for almost a year. I contacted them to ask about it. They had me send it in on their dime. In two weeks they sent me a new one with the upgraded turrets. I can’t complain and won’t.

Just got a P4Xi in today and smack my arthritic hands with a hammer the knobs are tight. How much cycling did they take to loosen up? Power knobs a little stiff too but works fine. Love what ive seen so far for the price, especially them throwing in p series AR mount for bout $920 OTD, NY camera. I got the scr to try something new and i really like it, my wife loves it so all that matters, looks like im getting off cheap on anniversary present this month😉

I cranked on mine for days and finally sent it in. They sent it back and said it tracked fine. :ROFLMAO:  I got rid of it and grabbed another LRHS. That or the 4-16 M or sometimes you can find the Tango 6 under 1k. Thats my top picks.

I guess the MK5 was under 1k for a couple days. If you are patient and keep your eyes out, you can get some really nice scopes for cheap, comparatively to new price. EBay used to be great, its a lot tougher now to get good scopes on the cheap.

Natchez had some BLEM XTRII 4-20 with SCR for 599. I keep resisting....... because I just bought an MK5.

If it doesnt loosen up its definitely not going on anything i shoot, broke too many bones in hands to try deal with that. Hoping it does or i can get them to make it right because its built like a tank and wanted to put it on my varmit getter. Im gonna go check out the XTR now, trying to rig out a couple guns for family prairie doggie trip so good price there, thanks.

Great tip so thank you, they had em for $599, i grabbed a couple so im good to go. Ive shot my buddies xtr and liked it alot, great knobs, ive seen where some didnt like the glass but looked pretty clean especially for that price range but i dont shoot too far anymore so normally in mid power range so anyone needing imput dont use me for insight, let the pros help with that.

I have 2 p4xi 4x16 and for the money they can't be beat. The only frustration I have with them is trying to find a sunshade that fits..
You have one guy saying brand x fits andv then a second guy saying it doesn't.

I got the p4 knobs and zoom working smooth as butter. Took it to work and had everyone in the office pass it around and play with it all day long cycling the dog crap out of it. I love what ive seen so far and i agree, its a lot of a scope for $840, waitin on mount to show up so can strap in on and see how many times they dropped it😉
