Steiner T6xi

I don't think you'll go wrong with either one. Personally, I'd take the opportunity to get a little more magnification for my aging eyes...
See, I knew I shouldn't have asked you all, now I see there's a 5-30x56, and while getting big my old scope was HUGE, so this is still a touch shorter, it'll fit even with the clipon. Just pay an extra $600 and that's sadly not so outrageously more money as to make me default to no. Drat. Now more to ponder on.

I plan on getting both. I really like S&Bs but I just don't know if I can swing the funds for three rifles with S&bs haha.

Used the t6xi 3-18 for hunting season. 981yds

I have the Steiner T6Xi 1-6x24mm KC-1. I have it mounted and plan to shoot this weekend.

So far here are my thoughts:
1. It is light for a 1-6 (Kahles K16i light)
2. The glass is as clear, better then my Steiner P4Xi 1-4
3. The controls knobs and turrets have a much better "click:" then the P4Xi (seems to be made better)
4. The FFP recital is awesome
5. I say it is almost as bright as my Vortex Gen 2 E Razor 1-6
6. It is much brighter then my Kahles K16i
7. The throw lever and flip up caps that come from the factory are great
8. It comes with two different elevation Turrets
9. The eye box is better then the Kahles K16i or the Steiner P4Xi ( I also think that the eye relief is more then they publish)

My overall first impressions are that it is now my favorite go to scope for my 12.5 AR.

As soon as I shoot it I will post a full range review.

Feel free to ask any questions.

When you say bright, are you referring to the image or reticle illumination?

Okay @Long Range 338 finally brought the goods down with him and hand delivered my 318.

Cons:

Parallax is not super smooth. It doesn't feel like there is beach sand in there gritty, but its rough.

Turret is a classic non translating two set screw to slip zero style and it seems like the screws need to be backed out almost all the way until they lose their purchase on the inner turret.

Aligning the turret hasmarks to the zero witness mark is tedious.

I am the exact opposite of @Glassaholic ....I am an ocd turret snob. If the clicks are not firm/tacticle and audible with zero play Im out chief.... Life is too short for bush league turrets trying to figure out did I dial .6 or .5....is this thing lined up ? These turrets squeek past acceptable.

Weird battery size not a 2032.

Pros:

Cheap

Glass is honestly very good for the price. Through the full mag range I felt like the image was sharp.

Resolution and color look great. Had my zco with me up at the range today and obviously the zco has a better image but I'm really impressed how good the Steiner looks.

I had a difficult time discerning any CA but there is some there if you really hunt for it.

Turret clicks are audible and solid... Once you get the turret set, the wintness marks line up perfectly so there is no doubt what tenth you are on. However there is just a slight bit of play once you are in the detent. Again... Barely acceptable to me but I like nice things.

Diopter locks solid.

Green illumination not daylight bright on 18 but I can see it on 3x. I like that the illumination has off points between each level.

Tennebrax caps and a throw lever included.

Mag ring is almost perfect tension imo but the throw lever is nice.

Eyebox is pretty good.

Turrets lock solid and has a zero stop.

Made in the mutha freaking USA in Colorado.

Overall I think these will straight kill at the 2k or sub 2k price point. You really need to shell out alot more money for similar glass quality imo.

Will update as I continue to run this against my SB ultra shorts and zco.

That’s a good looking rifle. Also, thanks for the scope thoughts. Wish the 15x had the MSR2.

Brilliant, thank you Husky, appreciate the quick writeup. Jake got one too and I'm waiting to hear his thoughts on glass but so far sounds like this will stay on my short list for my new build.

Couple thoughts - so you're saying I'm going to love the turrets 🤣 But you completely deflated my balloon when you said they don't use a 2032 battery, that is an epic fail from Steiner, not a deal breaker, but come on - every freaking manufacturer on the planet uses 2032, in fact Steiner's other scopes use 2032, why the heck would you design for a different battery!!!! If I get this scope it means I have to carry two different sets of batteries around with me, just a pain!

Do you know if Steiner has incorporated any kind of automatic shutoff, I ALWAYS forget to turn off my illumination which means I need like 20 batteries in my bag, so automatic shutoff like ZCO and March offer is very helpful.

Finally, I guessed glass would not be as good as ZCO simply based on the price point but these $2k optics keep inching up their game, the fact that there are very few options for FFP mid power optics with 56mm make this a unicorn that is worth considering even with it's flaws.

I like your rifle! Is that a red barrel I see beneath the vents? Who's chassis is that, part looks AI and part looks... well, non AI.

Correct they used a 2450 and there is no documentation of an automatic shut off in the manual.

It is a red barrel as a joke for another hide member 🤣. It's an ai in a ao/ vision chassis

I got one of the T6Xi 3-18x56 scopes this week. I am pretty impressed for the price! Kind of reminds me of a hybrid between my Hensoldt 3-12x56 and my ZCO 420 at a cheaper price point. The glass is actually pretty nice on quick examination. Bright image, good eyebox, and I like the MSR2 reticle. The turrets seem decent and the scope feels very solid. I also LOVE that it is made in the USA! It reminds me of my wife's BMW X5 50i. German design/engineering that is made with good quality in America.

I look forward to shooting it soon on my Tikka T1X. It should be a great 22 optic and work well with a clip-on for night steel shooting or varmint control!

I want to try that scope out mostly for the MSR2 reticle, and I’m researching scopes for my rimfire right now. Can you tell me if the parallax is bad at 25 yards when zoomed out enough to get a focused image, as well as the magnification required?

I just tried it at a lasered 23 yards at 1840 Eastern on a dark, overcast night. A street light about 40 yards away provided some dim side illumination. It was a Rock City bird house I was viewing. I could read the words Rock City clearly up to around 11 power in the dark. Of course, in better lighting it would fair better, this is an extreme test. If you look out the window right now toward the bird feeder, it is "dark".

I was able to read the microwave numbers in the house at 10 yards clearly at 3 power in my lit kitchen, more mag at this close distance quickly became blurry.

I hope this helps.

Hey thanks, it does help. I appreciate it. I want to like this one for a rimfire but I wasn’t sure about the stated minimum parallax of 50 yards.

I have the Steiner T6Xi 1-6x24mm KC-1. I have it mounted and plan to shoot this weekend.

Curious release by Steiner - in a world dominated by 1-8 and 1-10 LPVO designs, Steiner decides to go with a somewhat legacy design in a 1-6, part of this feels like a "been there, done that" story, but your comments on how bright this scope is and how forgiving the eyebox is may be its saving grace. I do wish the KC-1 reticle had wind dots for reference, but seems usable. Is the reticle illumination daylight bright - meaning can you see the illumination during bright sun conditions?

Will be curious to read your range review.

I think that the 1-6 is still relevant. As the Vortex Razor 1-6 is pretty much the gold standard that all LPVOs are judged on; weight, eye box, and brightness. There are a lot of scopes out there that meet two of the three but very few that are better or the same in all three.

If I can get the weather to cooperate, I will have a good test on Saturday....... been raining every time I plan to go........

I think there is space in the market for a good variety of designs.

If some other requirements were met, I'd be happy to see a truly modern 1-4x, for example.

I would be more interested in a LPVO with less mag, such as a 1-6 with a focus on image quality and lack of distortion, than a 1-10. The exit pupil at 10 power just seems too small to really be of any use.

I continue to enjoy my TA11 Acogs with a 10mm exit pupil, great glass, durability, forgiving eyebox, and a variety of reticles. I keep thinking I will make the jump to a LPVO someday but keep rocking the TA11!

That’s my story. Looking for a good 1-4 or 1-6. I don’t need 8x or 10x and would rather have better eye relief/eye box and lower weight.
