You have to change those codes! I change mine often. And have one other security measure I wont talk about publicly...

Re: Stolen guns!!!

Hopefully you have something else to keep loaded and at the ready - if an ex is vindictively comfortable enough to come back into your home and steal firearms, she might feel as comfortable to make an encore appearance.

Re: Stolen guns!!!

Dammit I hate seeing shit like this. Takes some balls to walk in and open your safe for your guns. I hope you get them back and the dumbass spends some!!

That is great news, hopefully you will be able to get them turned back over to you quickly.
So was it your ex or a friend? or was it some crafty bastards that stole your combo?

Re: Stolen guns!!!

Good to hear this Bitter...did they give them back to you or are they holding them as evidence until the traffic stop issues have been resolved?

Another question - what kind of information did they ask from you for ID of the weapons? Serial numbers, etc?

Re: Stolen guns!!!

Outstanding! I hate someone else got to fondle them, but at least it was quick recovery. Hopefully your firearms won't have to sit in an evidence vault for a while.

Make sure you send a thank you letter to the Officers.

Re: Stolen guns!!!

That's great news that they caught the thief so quickly! I wasn't really expecting to hear a happy ending to this story, so I'm a little amazed that things turned out so well. Someone broke into my dad's house years ago and took 7 rifles and shotguns. One of the shotguns was a double barrel with hammers that my grandfather had bought in 1933 when he was 13 years old. My dad gave descriptions and serial numbers to the detectives, but the guns have never been heard from again. Glad things turned out better for you!

Re: Stolen guns!!!

I love happy endings

good job by the local PD on the find. A day without a high risk vehicle stop is like a day without sunshine. When you get a chance, I'm sure the officers involved would appreciate a quick thank you letter that can be read at line up.

They should give them back to him, unless they have been used in a capital crime...If they have been used in a murder he might never get them back.

If they have not been used in a crime. The PD will document the weapons and release them to the owner.

That would be correct

Glad they got your guns back. What were the circumstances behind the theft/thief? I'm sure we would all like to know.

Re: Stolen guns!!!

I think details on the theif/alleged theif shouldn't be released until prosecution is completed. Just to cover your own ass.

However, if it was not the ex-girlfriend that was involved i'd make sure you make it very public that it was not her. Could leave yourself wide open for a defamation lawsuit.

Re: Stolen guns!!!

Sorry been busy changing locks and working!

First off yes got all my guns back the PD verified the serial numbers I gave them when I reported it to them agaisnt the guns they found.

Second off I was fairly certain it was my ex at first and that is what I told the PD told them I wasnt 100% sure though. As they were taking the report one of my buddies was able to make contact with her via phone and talked with her, she admitted to him she had taken the guns. So at that point I and the local PD knew who had them just not where they were located.

Third off I got called to the scene of the stop to verify my guns in person, along with a few other things she had taken. She admitted to taking everything with out my consent.

As far as what info the PD asked for was the following:

Serial numbers
make and model
Anything identifiable on them
Any scopes bipods etc
value of the weapon
I also provided pictures to the Officer since the officer was unfimialer with two of the guns I has reported stolen.

Then they ask me to provide paperwork showing that I legally owned the guns, and had rightfully ownership to them.

SOrry for the spelling!

Just wondering, what paperwork would show that you legally own a gun, maybe different laws?

Re: Stolen guns!!!

All I provided was got a hold of the gun dealer I bought the guns from or had guns transfered to him. He had on file the gun make and model serial # ETC and the paperwork I filed to be called in. Showing that I bought the gun from him had the background check or if the gun was transfered from a private person I had the paperwork showing that it was called in and that I paid the transfer fee for that gun. Were it got tricky was a gun I bought from a gun FTF. I had enough pictures of that gun and in my home with me in it, and had serial numbers on hand for the guns. I like doing FTF eaiser less paperwork and normally cheaper but in this case a paper trail helped me instead of screwing me!

+1, We don't need or have paperwork to own guns

Dont you have transfer paperwork you fill out or any federal forms asking questions aobut your background which those forms have gun make and model serial number and your name showing what day you bought it. You yourself wont have it but your gun dealer will have it on file.

Re: Stolen guns!!!

Correct FTF there will be no paperwork trail at all on them, like the Savage in my case. I think from now on if I do FTF Im going to fill out some kind of reciept showing I paid for the gun on this date from this guy etc. Not a legal paperwork but it at least is something so it shows it transfered hands to me from a private party

Re: Stolen guns!!! updated PD located them

Good to hear you got them back. The paperwork part is odd, the dealer and BATF/State or whatever should have them on file when they run the background.

Seems these days thanks to stupid stuff and people, the law is always needing more info to prove you are the owner, more of the victim becomes the criminal and the criminal becomes the victim and gains extra rights. Not the laws fault though.

Re: Stolen guns!!!

On FTF it is best to document each parties info and put in your home files. This way you are covered if the ATF ever starts the trace from manufacture to now.

Glad the firearms are back home!!!!
