I used to be in Caisson Plt. 3rd. US Inf. Reg. "The Old Guard" 98-02. The flag is covered because, they are on their way to do a funeral. The casket is just a mock casket for cremations. The casket has a small drawer in the back where the urn is placed, and carried to the gravesite. So, when the picture was taken, there isn't any remains being carried by the caisson, just a mock casket.

I spent 1.5 years at Marine Barracks 8th and I on the Silent Drill Team and A co. 2nd Platoon. I spent A butt load of time behind the Caisson or doing firing parties.

There was 4 funerals that day while we were there. We were only there for 2-3 hours. Broke my heart every time I heard the rifles fire. Kept bringing me back to my academy mate's funeral that we were there to honor going on the LE Memorial Wall.
