I sized and primed about 400 308 win 1x cases but line an idiot forgot to trim. Most of the cases are 2.015 to 2.017 in lentgh. I know we are only talking about .002 over max but these were supposed to be my match loads.

Stock rem 5R
Win cases
178 amax
44.2 varget

Option a
Deprime and use my current lee trimmer

Option b
Order possom hollw trimmer and trim off of shoulder.

Option c
I am worried about something that isn't an issue.

I appreciate your help and any suggestions that you might make.
Also -- which trimmer setup do you use and recommend?
Preferably a 3 way style trimmer that can be powered by a drill or motor.
Budget is a little flexible but within reason.

I am starting to shoot some local matches and practice a lot more. I need to be able to do 2-500 cases in a reasonable amount of time.

Re: Stupid mistake

in a stock rem 700 i highly doubt you need to trim those.

iv measured my stock 700 and dont have to trim until around 2.04

Re: Stupid mistake

I can loan you my trimmer and you can put a drill on it. But that would take FOREVER... but seriously, if you feel the need.

Re: Stupid mistake

You can make a case length gauge out of nothing more than a sized case and a bullet head (cut half the neck off a sized case, seat the head and slip the cut end of the case over the bullet head, chamber it, extract then measure the length. Being a factory Rem you'll probably find It will be around 2.030" min. Providing your case length is safe choose option C, accuracy will be unaffected.

Re: Stupid mistake

Option C. There's bench rest type shooters that intentionally allow their cases to grow over 2.015--.
Me, I trim every time to 2.008 with a Giraud trimmer, unless I F-up,(like you did), that indexes on the shoulder. You could buy one--or stick with option C.

Re: Stupid mistake

I don't think you will have an issue, factory barrels usually have a deeper throught. I use a hornady case trimmer and you could use it with a primed case. You might try loading a case in your rifle. Load and shoot!!

Re: Stupid mistake

I have to vote for option C as well. .002 over isnt not going to blow up your gun. If you want, put those aside for practice rounds and make new ones if u think that .002 is going to open ur groups up.
