Suppressors Suggest a 223 suppressor

I'm considering a 5.56 suppressor as my next major purchase, with primary intended use on a 22" 223AI bolt gun with secondary use on an AR (16, maybe 20"). Planning on a 5.56 suppressor as I shoot 223 a fair bit more than I shoot my 260.

My shooting would be range work (paper/steel) once or twice a month and maybe hunting, mostly from a rest or bipod, all recreational. I <span style="font-style: italic">think</span> direct thread would be just fine for my purposes, and I've been looking at cans that are in stock or can be ordered by dealers within a reasonable drive of me.

The SAS M47, YHM Phantom 5.56 and Huntertown Kestrel 5.56 are all about 7" long, weigh 20oz and cost $400-500.

The AAC Ranger 3 is a bit shorter, a fair amount lighter at 14oz, and a bit more expensive at $520.

The SAS Sentinel is $700, but the lightest at 10-12oz.

Given what I want to use it for, what do ya'll recommend?

Just remember your gun will be front heavy if you get up around the 20 oz mark, I voted AAC because of the weight/price.

The smaller bearing surface of the 5.56's 1/2x28 thread, compared to a typical 7.62's 5/8x24, is more prone to vibrating loose.
For that reason, and to keep weight down at the end of a long barrel, I'd suggest a titanium suppressor.
Titanium has a lower coefficient of expansion than the steel barrel, so it will actually tighten up under use.
Check out the 7.62 SAS Reaper, it's 10oz plus a few more for the mount.

None of the above. Best 5.56 can out there is a AWC Raider, these beast are bombproof also grunt proof!! USMC 's choice for troop unit. I have had mine for 6 years with nothing but praises for AWC.

Do 30cal can so you can use it on your 260. Look a elite iron. Thats what can i ended up with.

YHM Titanium 7.62. They only make them QD. 15oz weight. Easy to switch between weapons with no wear/tear on the actual barrel threads. Will work with any caliber from 300WM down. You only need ONE high dollar suppressor for all your suppressible weapons unless you go bigger than .30. The adapters are easy to find on the net at about 60 bucks. The 7.62's higher volume makes it very quiet on the 5.56, although no suppressor can do anything about the supersonic crack. The adapters and the suppressor design itself are robust, simple and effective design.
Most descriptions include the words "built like a tank".

+1 on this I just paid for mine yesterday. They are 7.2" long and only 15oz. A bit more expensive but accurate and magnum rated, very well built and heavy duty.

I would suggest the YHM phantom/Phantom Ti or you may consider the Thompson Machine Sixteen. The Sixteen is heavy but it is take apart so it is user serviceable.

Just curious. Whats the problem with the M4-2000. I have one on a DI SBR and really like it. The Surefire Mini is extremely loud on my guns, to the point that its useless for sound suppression. So, Im just curious why you would prefer it over the AAC.

The M4-2000 in its 08-present config a better performer than the Ranger unless you have an old M4-2000 from the right year, in which case they might perform about the same.

I have an early one. Nuff said.
I have seen / heard the mini in action and thought it served a purpose without adding bulk / weight. Best level of suppression is not as important to me as just taking the edge off, managing blast and staying on target.

Be sure to check you hunting laws to see if a suppressor is legal to hunt with. I know here in Ohio it is not

I also prefer AWC I have two Raiders a steel and the Thor Ti and I cant speak more highly of them. I also have a YHM 5.56 its heavy but works very well it was a good deal. PG

Bingo! What I came here to post. I have a Ti 556 YHM and I love it. It only weighs 12oz!

I run the m4-2000's and their mini 4 is in route. They work fine. Don't lock up perfect with 51 tooth mount but does not effect accuracy. Sometimes slight play in can.

I have a gemtech g5 T and an M4 2000 arriving within a few weeks, i would have them but i had a problem status form
i will do a little review or side by side comparison when i get them if you want

The M4-2000 is awesome and surprisingly quiet. Especially shooting out of an sbr. The only issue with AAC is the ratchet mounting system does not always lock up correctly but i fixed that by filing down the flash hider shoulder. The only thing about titanium is that it is heat sensitive so its not recommended for rapid fire or full auto.

I bought an m42k and while I am pleased with the can, I have been endlessly frustrated with the mounting system and have since moved to surefire, which I've been extremely pleased with. Also don't have as much headache with SF changing the mounts so frequently.

I voted for the SAS Ti but would buy a 223P-1 if it were my money due to me having a 30P-1 enroute. Ti is the way to go for weight. I don't think you can go wrong with the SAS or TBAC though.

My buddy has a Gemtech G5, love their QD mounting system, kicks anything from aac's arse.
